  1. This is as great thread. It is what makes KIC the great site that it is. I really didn't know much about RMC until the speculation for Tropical Plunge had us all guessing about, as Greg Scheid put it, "The Ruh-." SonODiamondback's question has made me want to further research the topper track a little more closely, so that I can understand more about the wooden coasters I enjoy. For all that I know about coasters (which doesn't hold a candle to a lot of others on here), everyday there are ten new things that can be learned.
  2. The joy of riding The Beast, for me, is when some fellow riders, often on their first ride of said legend, vocalize the ubiquitous misunderstanding about the ride upon which they're soon to be surprisingly schooled. As the train clears the top of the second lift: "This coaster isn't as awesome as everybody says. It just goes straight and turns ...hey, this track is at an angle and... oh, wow! This is fast, oh my gosh that tunnel's too small for my hea- what the- aaaaaaaaaggggh! Thi-i-i-i-i-i-s-s-s-s- i-i-i-s-s-s-s a-a-a-w-w-w-e-s-s-s-o-m-m-m-m-e!" Somehow, that has never lost its gratifying high degree of satisfaction!
  3. I wouldn't change a thing on the second drop and double-helix. In all it's glory, it's the icing on the cake that is The Beast.
  4. And you, sir, are thanked! -Tb, much obliged!
  5. Welcome to KIC! I would expect the crowds to be slightly larger than those on any given Sunday during the summer, but smaller than you'd see on a "Bring A Friend For About Fifteen Dollars" Day (BAFFA$15, formerly BAFF).
  6. I ducked into RHOFG, and have never, ever seen this place as packed as this! Hopefully this order of mozzarella sticks and unsweetened iced tea will see me through until the rain breaks up.
  7. Docile-looking skunk running around between Bat entrance and exit queues, we went into gift shop and told an associate about it, and he's channeling it up. Potential coaster renaming event averted...
  8. Stopped by the Mason FD Quint truck (in front of the Royal Fountains, Starbucks side) and chatted with the fireman. I told him the story about how the Mason Volunteer Fire Company came all the way out to downtown Morrow with their ladder truck, way back in 1980, because none of the rural fire departments could get the massive fire that was happening under control, and just... one-and-done! ...and the young fireman knew of the story! It was cool to share that story with the young first-responder (and to learn what a Quint truck is...) Tb, in park all day
  9. True. I remember well the early morning of July 21, 2013. I remember every time I walk past our own Dodgem.
  10. ^I must say that, somehow your avatar really looks happy and content with the status quo!
  11. The HD video quality is absolutely stunning! A swing scrambler, are you kidding me?! I drove by this park in 1993 when my mother lived in Ogden, but didn't visit it. It was amazing to see an amusement park's rides against the backdrop of mountains, though. This is the third amusement park I've read or seen videos about that has had a huge fire in its history. Is that a thing with a lot of these old parks?
  12. All I see is an empty midway, and a sign that says, "See you next year!" But seriously, though, what rides did they have?
  13. Alison Parker • Adam Ward • Vicki Gardner

  15. I know. Trying to save infant giant pandas is pretty freakin' ethical treatment if you ask me!
  16. ^Mine, too. There's just... no logic sometimes. They're not breeding dinosaurs, they're saving the lives of precious animals, which is 'supposed' to be their ... ahem ... prime "directive?" "Mission?" "Facade?" Where'd I put that Naproxin?
  17. The food lines don't appear very long, either!
  18. I do remember that the "Bangles" had the hit song, "Walk Like an Egyptian," based on walking in a fashion like the hieroglyphics of ancient Egypt, and riders would configure their limbs in poses reminiscent thereof as the effects of the ride took hold. That was a fun aspect of an otherwise dizzying experience.
  19. The last ride I've ever taken on a ride of that "type" was called the "Electric Rainbow," and it was at a place called "Americana," and one Ronald Wilson Reagan was President of the United States of America. Never have I ridden such a spin-cycle of imminent hurl again.
  20. I hadn't noticed they were gone! The Google Earth street view of the park is from when Invertigo was still McYellow, and the Starlight Short-Outular were still in place, and it has lots of trees around the base of the tower. One of them looks like it was dying, so that could explain its removal.
  21. Or completely remove all non-organic remnants and let nature reclaim the land in a not-so-post-apocalyptic manner. EDIT: Coin-themed cliché removed to relieve nausea.
  22. It's going to be like this:
