Decoding Episode II: Rivertown 2017 and the Falling Trees
RollerNut replied to jcgoble3's topic in Kings Island
Maybe but not always. -
The ACE Coaster Classic status means the coaster pretty much still has it's original design and is traditionally wood. Landmark Status just means the ride is historically important in some way. It used to be on the website, ACE in my opinion is full of themselves; how many roller coasters have they saved? One to my knowledge , Leap-The-Dips. It takes more than talk to save a coaster and that is all the website says they do, the parks know what can be done to save a coaster.... After last year's Carolina Coaster Classic, I won't do another ACE event. Yelling "Hell no, we won't go; one more ride and save Thunder Road!" on the last train of the night on July 26th, 2015 was disrespectful to the park and left a bad taste in my mouth. It was my first and last ACE Event ever.

Decoding Episode II: Rivertown 2017 and the Falling Trees
RollerNut replied to jcgoble3's topic in Kings Island
It's not a tunnel. The plans refer to the North Abutment. An abutment is the end of a bridge. An engineer wouldn't mistake that term for anything else. Also, if it was a tunnel, it would all be one structure. One big concrete tube. There wouldn't be partial plans of footers. Not completely true, most railroad tunnels are not lined with concrete. They are normally just dug(loose term) out. Furthermore, a solid long concrete tube would be expensive and like precast we in sections. This structure looks most like a retaining wall nothing more but maybe less. It could be tunnel but I don't think so, however the railroad tracks wouldn't be moved until after the tunnel is done. -

A) A hint to new "wood" going in by means of the coaster. A hint towards replanting new trees. -

Thunder Road got new trains in 1978 or 1980 and the station was reconfigured.... It might happen.

Swan Lake, where Diamondback's splashdown is now. I am pretty sure.http://www.themeparkbrochures.net/maps/2005/pkiwinter2005.html
-
The point of a splashdown is for people nearby watching to see the awesome water affect, therefor adding ride appeal. If Diamondback's splashdown was heavily wooded the splashdown would be pointless. People nearby wouldn't be able to see it. The splashdown while riding is a very uneventful section of the coaster, the only people who somewhat experience the "splash" affect are in the very back seat, on the last cart.I think he point was that the did all the work to Swan Lake for the Splashdown when Swan Lake looked better. Whitewater Falls looks more natural than Diamondback's Splashdown, it think Kings Island saw a chance to incorporate an old element of the original KI into Diamondback but either found out that it wasn't as simple as building the ride through the lake or they ended up not having the budget to do everything they wanted.Didn't Winterfest have a show in the lake?

How about dry ice smoke(steam, most, whatever) at Halloween Haunts?
-
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Eiw0q1XI8F8 Doesn't seem to slow the train much.

Not always. I heard that story of the KI bigshots getting drunk in the office when they had the bright idea to go for a ride on their newly built Beast. (not open til public yet) If I remember right, the trims had not been added yet, so here are these drunk guys blasting through the woods holding on for dear life. I guess when they got back to the station, the story was they were all sober and wondering just what the heck they had just created. haha! I'm sure some of you have heard that story, but for anybody that wants to hear Dennis Speigel tell this hilarious story watch this video starting at 30:50. Funny story! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l0vWqBbJJXI But the helix tunnel wasn't finished until 1980 I thought? I have seen videos without the tunnel.

Whither Conneaut Lake Park Now?

Similar to Freestyle Music Park, my wife and I got two admission tickets for $17.76. The park ended up being packed later in the day but they still couldn't pay the bills. -

A lot of places down here in NC had them on the 2nd because it was a Saturday. That said, closing early on 7/4th is never a good sign. -

"Trespassers on Property With respect to trespassers, if the owner knows that it is likely trespassers will enter the property, he or she may be charged with a duty to give reasonable warning to prevent injury. This requirement applies only with respect to artificial conditions that the owner has created or maintains, and knows may be likely to cause serious injury or death." Source: http://injury.findlaw.com/accident-injury-law/premises-liability-who-is-responsible.html My logic is a trespasser falls from an the Big Dipper.

I just want to point out that wooden coasters have more bents in the valleys than at the top of the hills. However the red section to me could be section where the bents are so short that they don't connect to other(except may handrails) or this could be an inversion. ^^^Painfully slow, I spy what looks like motors under the brake shed attached to tires; kicking up the speed? ^Does stain peel?
