Decoding Episode II: Rivertown 2017 and the Falling Trees
RollerNut replied to jcgoble3's topic in Kings Island
Many parks have gotten rid of their Arrow flumes, both Carowinds and Dollywood removed theirs because the fiberglass flumes kept developing leaks. Carowinds had the entire fiberglass flume rhinolined(Rhinoliner used to coat pick up truck beds)in 2003, this worked for a short while; but by 2005 it was leaking again. Flume still commanded hours long lines but was replaced by Intimidator. -

Carowinds is doing theirs on May 6th and 7th. I want to do it but I also have other things I want to do(actually need to do), at the moment I expect tickets to sell out before I will know if I can do the Carowinds Campout.

Foundation problems is a no, lack of proper maintenance. You shouldn't remove paint from a wooden structure, not repaint or waterseal the structure and expect it to last. Carowinds removed the paint from Thunder Road in the 90s and only started watersealing the structure with Thompson's Waterseal a few years before 2016....I suspect when GCI recommended or told them to. Carowinds spent 5 million to rebuild most of Thunder Road, the remaining structure need "a couple million" to rebuild as Carowinds officials put it. I hear the entire lift hill needed a complete rebuild That is correct. The lifthills and brakeruns structure needed a complete rebuild, that segment and towards the station was only sections left to rebuild. Carowinds did not say if station would have been been included but Carowinds did rebuild Woodstock Express' prelift turn recently(either this year or last).

Back in 1973 until 1994, the Carowinds Monorail ran along side the Interstate. In 1975, Carowinds Corp sold the park but it didn't include the land next to the interstate directly under the monorail tracks. That land came warehouses and a mall. http://www.carowindsearlyyears.com/monorailpath.jpgPlus Carowinds was supposed to have a Hotel, Sports Complex, Marina. It would have been the Cedar Point of the Carolina for comparison, but with the park being closer to Disneyland than CP. http://www.carowindsearlyyears.com/caro_center.html As you can 3/4 of the way through the first season plans were announced that would have resulted in the Carowinds sign having to be moved, probably why they didn't build a tall sign for the park, knowing that a tall sign would cost more to build then move. The current sign is also the park's original sign with a few modifications.

How did he leave Carowinds, by choice? Choice of asked, told or at his request? Would he doom the Disney Company or be the greatest CEO since Walt? -

Oh my Skytower! What twisted donkey came up with that ride. -
Seaworld has not taken wild orcas and put them on display in the parks in decades, if ever. Seaworld Parks appears to have 22 Orcas total, only one of those 22 does it not list as being sent to a park other than Seaworld when they were taken from the wild. Most of the Seaworld Orcas were born in a park. The only whale that I see may have been taken from the wild for Seaworld was caught in 1978

Alabama Adventure ain't gone yet and even when they were waterpark only, the still used part of the theme park. Wild Adventures in Georgia opened in 1996. Kentucky Kingdom..... (Runs for the hills!) -
Correct, Setpoint.... Rumor has it one of the coasters returned to Setpoint after removal.
-
Flying Super Saturator was painted in 2006 and 2008.... Removed in 2008.

Carowinds fans believe prior to 2015 that Thunder Road would always be there....All that is left is 6 pieces of wood, two posts and four pieces of wood around one of the post.

Inside the Demise of the Record-Breaking Coaster That Went Too Far
RollerNut replied to Oldiesmann's topic in Kings Island
It was C3(Cannon Coaster Classic), I was waiting to talk to the Rides Manager for Carowinds, I had permission from the Rides Manager to wait for him. Carowinds General Manager was aware of this also, Larissa was assistant that I leave the area as the park was closed. Carowinds Security Guards were ok with me waiting for Rides Manager, Larissa was not. She made no effort to verify why I was waiting or anything, just "Park is closed, go home. You can call him later." She even wanted to run my family off while I was still on Thunder Road. Again Carowinds Security was more understanding, patient and even helpful. Just my personal opinion, maybe one day in the future I will have another chance to form a positive opinion. I didn't attend Media Day for Fury, other coaster Enthusists behavior at C3 have turned off my wife from ACE events. -
