  1. God standbyme, I'm so frustrated with your annoying brochure posts. Seriously, why would you say that? These are awesome, PLEASE keep sharing. I love the 70's artwork and its little touches. If you look in the first photo did you notice they made it a point to put gray streaks in the dad's hair? I never stayed at the campground since I lived 20 minutes away and don't like camping, but always wondered what it was like. It's like this lost world of Kings Island that I never saw. So, standbyme (and others who went there), I have a few questions about it: - In all the brochures, they make mention of year round camping. In its later years, was it still open year round? - What were the facilities like towards the end? I know they still had the store, but were the bathrooms updated/nice? In the photos on the brochure they included a photo of the sinks - very 70's esque. Was there still laundry and game rooms? - Did they still rent motorhomes at the end? What about bikes? - Was the pool nice at all? Playground? What is the difference between a wading pool and a regular pool that they keep mentioning? - Did they still have planned entertainment? - Did the campground go back to the river? If so, did they have fishing? Thanks for taking the time to post this, it's fascinating.
  2. Huss also managed to get rid of one! Quoted for truth.
  3. ^I doubt you'd see a Topple Tower come in. I think they learned their lesson with the last HUSS prototype that occupied that spot.
  4. That's a moot point. The lawsuit and argument are not about whether or not she can be properly evacuated. As TheRickster pointed out: people in wheel chairs are allowed to ride rides and often have limited use of their extremities below the waste, they can grip the rail, but could they walk down? What about a child with Cerebral Palsy? He/She may be able to grip things, but would they and if so, how well? This isn't a case over discrimination or hypothetical situations about evacuations. What it is, is a patron questioning whether or not Sea World provides reasonable accommodations (as pointed out by The Interpreter earlier). Depending on how state law in Florida works, Sea World may or may not be legally regarded to follow ALL manufacturer recommendations as parks in Ohio are, however, they were in this case following one from B&M.
  5. It has not been seen before. Kings Island had the only HUSS Giant TopSpin. Therefore, they were the only ones who could get rid of one.
  6. Or MAYBE the ride needed a paint job and they just happened to like the colors a sister park chose. Why does their always have to be a conspiracy? I doubt it has anything to do with cohesion or branding. The ride needed a new paint job. Someone liked those colors. They pained it. It has nothing to do with long time corporate plans or the future of the company. Seriously people, it was just a paint job.
  7. Topic Already Exists Here: http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=24734&pid=452047&st=180entry452047
  8. ^2005 was the last year they painted it, right? I agree with you, the tower could use some love. At least they light up the front at night.
  9. ^Trust me, I got you and liked the sarcasm. I don't mean to be a debbie downer, but I just find it annoying when every other post on this site is about nitpicking at little things and believing they have some hidden meaning. Folks, sometimes paint is just paint.
  10. Since when did a ride's paint job become a crystal ball? Not everything the park does is some kind of conspiracy about the future.
  11. Good point, I completely forgot about DT, I just had that large target in the plaze in my head. I didn't mean that it would not fit in with AZ, I just meant that it will be different. The ride already looks much better with only the cobra roll covered. I gotcha. I didn't mean you specifically.
  12. The color scheme of it and Drop Tower work well together. Even if they didn't, who cares? People would complain no matter how it's painted.
  13. I think the picture is just flipped. If you flip it horizontally, it's going the right way.
  14. Like TG93 said, I never realized that Shake, Rattle and Roll was originally called "Troika," the manufacturer's name. Was it originally called this or was the brochure printed before the ride opened as Shake, Rattle and Roll that season? Also, anyone know what the "Brass Ring" is now? And was the Zodiac originally known as the "double wheel?"
  15. They said it was in fact because of your suggestion.
  16. I don't think anyone's walked up to the front entrance and turned around because the colors of Invertigo weren't welcoming. I'm more disappointed that Boddah1994 claims this is from under the black hat yet doesn't update his blog of the same name.
  17. ^I tend to agree with that sentiment. While the musical revue shows in recent years have been VERY good, there has been very little variety aside from these types of shows. A magic show sounds pretty cool. IMHO though... they need the roving entertainment. Bring back the clown band!
  18. Yes! However, I believe the station itself was designed differently.
  19. I never realized that the ride still had its Yellow Scooby Doo paint job when it was renamed "The Beastie." As for the photo Vortex posted from 1980, are you sure that's our Beastie? I remember ours having the sign from above right until it closed. And do you remember how the station had the drive box above the entire station? The ride ops had to reach it via a ladder.
  20. I just wanted to pop in real quick and say thank you. Ryan, I know I thanked you the other night when we all got together, but I really appreciate you taking the time to write this. I'm glad you got to come out with us on Thursdays and got to know Doug. I wanted to thank the KIC community who knew Doug and those who didn't, I know his family really appreciates the thoughts, prayers and condolences. I appreciate everyone whose taken the time to keep Doug and his family in their thoughts. Doug would often stay late and come in early, both as an associate and as a supervisor, to help out with special events at his rides. Whether it was BeastBuzz, the last ride of the year on The Beast, ERT times or Planet Snoopy early openings - Doug always worked hard and never complained. He was the kind of guy when the rest of us would be all tired out from working all day, Doug stayed and helped then wanted to go out and have a beer. Then he'd be back the next morning refreshed and ready to do it all over again. That's a lot when you only have one kidney, dialysis three times a week and a lot of other stuff going on. He never complained about it once. Whether you knew him personally or not, I'm sure you encountered him at some point in the park. He was a Beast associate, Beast supervisor, supervisor of the log flume and supervisor of the Backlot: Stunt Coaster. He was trained all across the park and would help out wherever he could. He not only treated his co-workers with respect, but always looked out for the guests as well. Doug was great with the little kids that would come ride the log flume. He loved working at Kings Island and it's through that summer job that I and countless others got to know him. While this past weekend has been tragic and hard, I can't tell you how happy I've felt. The outpouring of support from HUNDREDS of former and current employees Doug worked with has been great. The support from the KIC and enthusiast community has been wonderful as well. For me, it really shows what a special place Kings Island is. Not just for the employees, but for those who frequent the park and have made friends through the park. It has made me so happy to see how many people centered around the park are good hearted and will do anything for their friends and community - whether they know them well or not. Thank you to everybody here. Doug trained countless supervisors and employees in the park and was responsible for establishing some top notch crews. I'm sure his memory will live on in many facets, but especially through the good job these young people will continue to do at the park. If you ever ride The Beast - just as the train exits the station and begins to turn around before heading up the lift - there is an American flag mounted on a pole in the center. In 2008, Doug, Steve and I had the privilege of being Beast supervisors together. We created a "Real American" crew, a play off of Doug and I's love for Hulk Hogan. Many people here may remember that entire crew wearing American flag pins on their uniforms that year and continue to do so. The flag pole in the middle was built by the park maintenance staff. The three of us had jokingly asked them about putting one up and low and behold - they showed up with a flag pole for us one day. The flag still stands and is illuminated every night. When you ride The Beast and go past it - remember Doug. Sincerely, Ronny Salerno
  21. I was really worried about the future of CF until I read your post about the CEO's. Thanks for your insight, I'm at ease now.
  22. Have a Fast Lane pass, you're pretty much guaranteed to be at the top for fireworks. Don't have one? No guarantee. Hence why Fast Lane is a perk.
  23. ^From what I've heard, the one at SFOG is good and the one that CHANGed into Green Lantern at SFGADV apparently rides smooth. (Credit to Terpy for the pun). Wasn't there a rumor going around that these stand ups could be retro-fitted with floorless trains?
  24. That paint scheme looks awful, but it's not as painful on the eyes as the ride is on the riders.
  25. Kings Island is getting a new wave pool!?
