Luminosity: Ignite the Night Details
Gordon Bombay replied to Leland Wykoff's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
From what I understand, the two aren't really comparable are they? Xtended Play was they kept Action Zone open late, marketed it towards teens and had DJ's so it was like this "dance/coaster party for the youth." Luminosity: "Ignite the Night" is a light show, isn't it?- 26 replies

HaHa I think a family oriented light show is a far cry from the disaster that was "Xtended Play."- 26 replies

Luminosity: Ignite the Night Details

I just hope it's better than "Starlight Spectacular," which was anything but spectacular. With literal names such as "Drop Tower" for its attractions, CF should've called it: "Dark path with burn out Christmas lights."- 26 replies

Matt Ouimet Believes In FUN
Gordon Bombay replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Nice to see that he has confidence in his product. There certainly seems to be a HUGE shift in the atmosphere of Cedar Fair's culture. -
Heard word this morning through some friends that The Beach is officially closing. Rumors had been going around throughout the winter that they wouldn't reopen this season and that they were up for sale. Just a few weeks ago they had radio advertisements for their job fair and informed returning employees that rehire info would be out soon. http://warrencounty.fox19.com/news/news/87908-beach-waterpark-closing-2012-season

Cincinnati ZOO:
Gordon Bombay replied to westcoaster's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Yeah, the topic is linked a few posts up. You can't read the article because it's now a pay article located within the depths of the Enquirer's wonderful archives full of great journalism. Anyone know if they ended up making it a breeding ground or why the land was donated in the first place? -

^ I think of a few of her quotes. I have a picture of me somewhere with her at Riverfront Stadium and she's smoking a cigarette on the concourse with me as a small child. -

Are you referring to the old Safari Monorail that Kings Island had? When Kings Island initially opened there was plans for the Wild Animal Habitat and Lion Country Safari. It opened in 1974 and featured animal exhibits, shows and monorail that took you around the various attractions. The monorail last ran in 1992 I think and the cars were on site until 1998 when they moved to Jungle Jim's. That store now runs the monorail during special events. See: http://www.KICentral.com/history/monorail.php Somewhere around here, TombRaiderTY did an AWESOME write up about the attractions history. As far as Marge Schott goes, I haven't heard anything about some land she donated. Did she donate land originally when Kings Island planned this attraction? From what I've heard recently, the zoo has no plans to open up this kind of attraction either at their current location or anywhere else. However, the Zoo did partner with KI back in the day when the WAH was open. -
Standbyme does it again. Man, this stuff is great! I agree that the artist's depiction of the characters is a bit strange. It's almost as if there's no defining line between whether or not Scooby is a costumed character or if he's just put on weight. And the five fingers on a human hand connected to a dog? Most of the photographs are excellent. I loved how parks like Kings Island used to not only have their own darkrooms, but their own photographers.

Kills your park rating. Be careful.

^So true. The ride was a total surprise and when it worked, it was amazing. GYK posted some good photos from Technifex. I forgot that they had real flames out front once. The soundtrack was also amazing. Two hours of custom music just for the queue. One track outside, on track for the inside. I'm not sure where it went, but CoastersRZ found some document one time talking about how they even designed the queue so that as you walked up from certain angles, the planted trees obscured the building. Before Diamondback, you could really see that effect as you came up the path past The Beast.

I thought the ride was great, but Togo is gone and I've yet to ride a B&M that didn't suck.

At the top of the "wall" in front of the riders, there were devices which could produce real sparks. From what I remember, I believe they went off as your Gondola raised up. There were sound effects that made it sound like the vehicle you were on was creaking badly and then sound effects of slight explosions that coincided with the sparks being dropped from the top of the ride room. It was pretty neat. The wall also had two shades of flourescent paint. When the goddess was "happy" at the start of the show, certain lights kicked on and illuminated only certain flourescent colors. When she went crazy and got "mad," the other lights came on and highlighted the other group of colors. It gave the effect of the wall coming alive and the goddess changing expressions.
-
^Even then, the spark effect had been gone for quite some time. The only time's I remember seeing that were in 2002 the first year it opened. It was a simple effect, but man, it made that whole experience more "real." TR:TR was bold, unique and a hell of a concept. It was also a hell of a lesson for Paramount Parks and Cedar Fair.

He's not. The new show will feature world class magician Ed Alonzo. I have no doubt that it will be great.

Oh, I do, trust me. However whether or not I listen to its spelling suggestions at 4 am is another story. Thanks for the corrections though.

Correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't it 2012? It was. Thank you sir, pardon my error!

"From the Ruins of the Kingdom, the Boardwalk Rises?" This past summer I had the opportunity to go down to Louisville and visit with the Kentucky Kingdom Redevelopment Company who allowed me to tour the park and photograph it. With the recent news of Bluegrass Boardwalk and hope that the park is going to be reopened by 2013, I decided to do an article for my website. Check it out here. Some sample photos of how the park looked a few months ago:

You sir, are a huge help. I owe ya a beer.

The site is currently under review by Google, think it be ok to go ahead and load up a new, clean, index page?
-
Asking Google right now. I went ahead and just deleted that entire index page. It was only a splash page anyways and I took the QC/D domain name and re-directed it straight to the blog a few years back anyways. I'm gonna upload a new index page that just has a simple message. Anyone still getting warnings?
-
Hendrick, thank you! I have been having that problem with that malware message for nearly a darn year. The domain mcflash.4000 etc. isn't actually mine. It's owned by a friend who I do some photo work with. He wasn't able to fix the problem, I asked countless places for help and no one seemed to have a solution. I've currently been ripping EVERY photo off the blog and re-catologing them to put on Flickr. After that I'd have to go through every blog post and fix the HTML img sources. Hopefully, I can get that code off of there. Should I just pull that index page into dreamweaver and fix it? To everyone else: I sincerely apologize for the malware message. I promise you, it's harmless. For me, it doesn't show up in Firefox, Safari or Chrome. Lately, less people have been getting it, but I guess it's still coming up. Hopefully Hendrick's method works out. Hendrick, you're the dude!
