  1. Good grief, that took all of a few hours for four of you to start an argument. Thanks to those who have stayed on topic, the offending conversations have been removed. I'm inclined to agree with you. I don't think you'll ever see anything come of the current ride. Its poor reputation (whether deserved or not is irrelevant) speaks for itself. Imagine you gave it the "Rocky Mountain Treatment," every bit of press you'd recieve would feature what the ride used to be called and what happened to it.

  4. The conversation about Son of Beast has been moved to this topic. In light of many threads about the ride and one giant thread that has devolved from discussion to rumors to jokes about the rumors, it's time to start anew. Hopefully this will create a more concise topic that won't require reading through 150+ pages to get caught up on. Facts: - The ride has not operated since June 16, 2009. - The park's current General Manager has stated the reason for not operating the ride is his dissatisfaction with the ride's performance. “Eight days after I took over, the accident occurred,” said Scheid. “We have struggled with it ever since. We have smoothed out the ride. Most people will say they are comfortable with the ride, but I am not comfortable with the ride.” - From 2000 - 2006 the ride was the world's only wooden looping roller coaster and operated with trains manufactured by Premier Rides. - On July 9, 2006 an accident occurred. According to an investigation by the State of Ohio Department of Agriculture: a cracked vertical timber [in the ride's "Rose Bowl" section] created a "bump." When a train navigated this section, some riders received non life-threatening injuries and the ride was closed for the remainder of the season. - Following the Department of Agricultures investigation [which faulted some aspects of the design of the ride] in which recommendations to improve the rides performance were made, the loop was removed and "new" trains were installed. - On july 4, 2007, Son of Beast re-opened nearly a year after its accident. The ride featured two modified trains manufactured by Gerstauler that were originally found on the Hurricane at Myrtle Beach Pavillion. To accommodate the lighter trains, the loop was removed. Son of Beast was still billed as the world's tallest and fastest wooden roller coaster. - On June 16, 2009 - the ride was voluntarily closed down after a woman came forward stating she had suffered an injury on the ride in May of that year. The ride has not re-opened since for the reasons stated above: dissatisfaction with the ride's performance. Note: the incident in June of 2009 has never been officially stated to have been the reason for the ride's closure. As of this topic's posting on July 5, 2012: No decision has been made regarding the future of Son of Beast. References: Cincinnati Enquirer, "What's Next for Son of Beast?" - April 24, 2011. Failure to abide by these rules will result in consequences. - Feel free to discuss rumors about the ride and ideas for its future use, HOWEVER, if you are going to claim to have "inside information" or a claim you heard something from an "official" (and things of this nature), state your source or have your post deleted. - Be respectful to your fellow posters, but at the same time have a sense of humor, please. - Share your memories of the ride and your experiences, but make your post worth reading. - Son of Beast, Summer 2008. 5. ^And those Gerstlauer trains were purchased, modified and put into service on Son of Beast while the former Geauga Lake trains were all one site and available. IF the GL trains are still there, I doubt they'd in any way be reusable. I doubt the existing SOB trains are in any good shape considering they've been sitting out in the elements unprotected, unmaintained for several seasons now. It's interesting to think how SOB's structure could be repurposed into a new ride and at one time I believe constructing an alternative to the Rose Bowl was considered. It will never happen though for the same reasons the ride is not running now. No one wants to be associated with it. The ride has an awful reputation whether deserved in the eyes of enthusiasts or not. It won't get Rocky Mountain treatment, cause how's every news article gonna sound with "The ride that USED to be Son of Beast and sent people to the hospital once is now..." The ride's done. Writing is on the wall, you should read it and not ignore it.
  6. ^Ha, well I dealt with Haunt crowds for many years... it's a different breed from regular operation and there are some Haunt scareactors that are very, very good. A certain butcher comes to mind. Sam I think his name was...
  7. Looks like the typical Halloween Haunt visitor. Maybe they stole the cards cause they were mad no midgets were bleeding?
  8. Because no one replies to your random off topic requests about car parts? Probably because the site is geared more towards an amusement park...
  9. ^It's not just football, it's all the additional revenue and economic development sports teams and their facilities can bring in. A lot of pro sports teams have this potential, but football especially. Look how hard other cities have fought to keep their teams and in the case of the 49ers it seems they were staying in the area and just a matter of who wants them in their specific city.
  10. The Geico plane is always in the air when the Reds have a home game and swings up by KI sometimes. Helicopter tours are offered by Stratus helicopters, they have two locations: 1) Newport 2) Lunken Airport KI is one of the sights on one of their more pricey tours. As for other planes, it's pretty common to fly over KI and see it. From the air, it's a really unique perspective. My friend John flies me over the park occasionally:
  11. Are you that brain dead? I was asking about the announcement, not what they are going to do with SOB. Might want to process what you read just a tad longer before making a comment.
  12. Wait a minute! Brian claimed he already knew what was going on, why is he asking Kings Island? He already has all the answers.
  13. Wasn't aware you had a crystal ball? I'd say we're more likely to get a new coaster some time soon than we would be to see anything done with Son of Beast besides have a wrecking ball hit it. No suits have spoken to you.
  14. You could be the bigger person and back up your "claims" of inside info, but you won't (cause you don't have any). Thanks for playing.
  15. ^The only guy backing up mcarthysnerd is the other guy claiming to have information, but with no proof to share it. Mcarthy, either share your email and prove your claim as the TOS states, or take a hike. Choose your next post wisely.
  16. ^I believe, the correct term according to Reddit is: "Pics or GTFO."
  17. When I was a kid, I hated Skyline and always begged my parents for Gold Star instead. More so just to argue with my younger sister rather than taste. As an adult, it's always been more about which is more convenient. I've lived in Cincinnati my whole life and think putting thin chili with chocolate spices in it over spaghetti noodles and hot dogs is an invention right up there with with the cure for polio. However, I've never been able to tell much of a difference between the different parlors. Even so, I enjoy them all. Skyline's closer to my apartment. Gold Star's across the street from work. I haven't seen an Empress since I was seven. Why would you ever get chili from Blue Ash Chili? It's all about the Double Deckers. Price Hill, West Side, Dixie - sadly have never tried these. If I had to pick one, it's not on this list, but it's open late and I usually end up there after a good night: CAMP WASHINGTON.
  18. Haha, where did you find that photo at? I'm pretty sure I posted that years ago.
  19. Maybe he was addressing the head of one of the five families?
  20. ^Given that the park confirmed that the ride was removed... ..Then no.
  21. Last year it took a few weeks into the regular season for everything on the clock to appear. I'm sure with Soak City, the landscaping folks had their priorities in other places.
  22. I'll take KI's emphasis on safety over capacity than any Cedar Point kid any day.
