Soak City Construction Continues
Gordon Bombay replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Kings Island Central Newsroom
^Haha, yeah, the names "worked," but the "theme" didn't really. Aside from a few movie posters in the area, nothing really tied the rides to these dismal action films. Although, I do remember the first time I rode Drop Zone there used to be an automated spiel where some guy claiming to be the "director" of Drop Zone gave you the riding instructions under the guise of "filming the tower scene for Drop Zone." You can see them on the regular pathway to Timberwolf when you enter the venue under Congo Falls to the right of Invertigo's entrance. -
^From what I understand, it's just how the different park's maintenance divisions prioritized anything not so much a decision from on high in Sandusky.

Soak City Construction Continues

^To illuminate the pathways? If it's not broken, why fix it? And I don't think Congo Falls stuck out too bad when "Action Zone" was rolled out. It had the Congo movie poster right by it and the tropical plants and such and kind of made sense. I think it fit a theme much better than Drop Zone or Face Off did. When that area debuted, granted I was pretty young, I had no idea they were "themed" after action movies. I eventually saw both films and then realized why I had never heard of them. -

They put Conga Falls there well before the area was known as the "Paramount Action Zone" and later just "Action Zone." Actually if you attend an event at Timberwolf, you can see a few of the old lamp posts from the "Adventure Village" days. -
^Yes, it's generally something that happens before the park opens everyday. All the wooden coasters are walked daily and their superstructures inspected in sections over the course of time.
-
^They do not.

Ask me what? I wouldn't take offense to people questioning you Jr for Birdy, or any other member who recounts an experience at the park. That's the nature of the internet, especially forums about the amusement industry. People are naturally skeptical here...and they should be. Especially with all the idiots who popped up here as trolls over the past few months. Just be prepared that if you're going to claim something, you'll be facing criticism and speculation.
-
^Not technically as I was in the past, but this site has gotten so overrun by nonsense in the past few months, I figured I'd take care of some of it. Now, if you don't mind, lets reserve this space for discussing an Action Zone makeover in 2013. As for questions about rumors/sources/credibility/etc, maybe it deserves its own topic of discussion? Could be interesting to compare with other sites and forums.

Why are you trying to make it an issue? I never said there were two sets of rules and there's also no more blog from "Under The Black Hat." And no one ever said you couldn't post rumors. There's a difference between delivering a relevant post with content about something you overheard at the park or saw (see: Dwight Schrute's posts about his observation with "suits") and claiming that you "have many friends in management" who told you "three giga coasters will appear like Pokemon next year."

I'd be more than happy to discuss public transportation funding and my views on it, especially the finer details of the CA system, but this is not a forum for politics. Please keep the conversation geared towards the KI train.
-
^The difference is he runs the site was being fed information from the park.
-
Seen it while on AE. Do you have to be rude in almost every post you do? GYK summed it nicely for me and I thank him for that and the delivery was harsh because you've made numerous, similar dubious claims before. As someone very familiar with that ride and how it works, I can tell you that viewing it from Adventure Express going 35 miles per hour is not a good was to assess its structural integrity.
-
^From where have you seen it or what maintenance or carpentry experience do you have to substantiate that claim? Give me a break.

^Good luck taking Amtrak from Cincy to Orlando. It'll take you forever and there will be a few bus transfers in there. However; Chicago, DC and New York are easy destinations from Cincy via Amtrak. I'll be going to Indy, Chicago, Milwaukee and back to cincy in a month.

^Good point. Since the long winded and pointless SOB thread has now closed, this topic is useless. SOB discussion has been shifted to here: http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php?/topic/25938-general-son-of-beast-discussion/

Ok, I think we get it. Let's not dwell on making jokes and impersonating posts that are already annoying and off topic. This topic is for speculation on a "Action Zone Makeover 2013."
-
Oh, it worked out just fine. Train location discussion has been moved here: http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php?/topic/25938-general-son-of-beast-discussion/page__pid__472195__st__60#entry472195

^Here's the thing. There's posting a rumor and then there's just being a troll. Random posts to the tune of: "I know someone in management who says the sun may shine on this same date two years from now," are not acceptable. Or going into old SOB topics and baiting members with phrases like "Something big is coming, I won't give any specifics or details or hint that I know what I'm talking about, but I'll just troll here and get you riled you." is also not acceptable. What's acceptable is when members come on here and recount their stories of meeting with people at the park. JcGoble met with Mr. Helbig one day after riding The Vortex and shared that experience. That's a lot more reputable than the guy who claims to "know suits." Random speculation on the basis that you have "inside info" is trolling plain and simple. If you can't reveal your source, then you shouldn't be telling the info anyways (and you're coming here because you have too much free time and want to troll) or you don't really know anything at all.

Not sure whether you're being sarcastic or not, but I'll point you in the direction of the Terms of Service: Sorry if I'm just trying to keep these forums cleaned up for those who want to contribute worthwhile posts like LongLivesKingCobra and people who want to spam it with their vague crystal ball predictions.
-
^I mean, it could be worse. I could go around claiming I have vague inside information, but won't give specifics or who my sources are and clutter up the forums with even more crap that's gone unchecked or monitored for the past several months.
-
I think we'll all be ok.
-
Come around on this forum claiming BS with no sources and just posting bull**** for the sake of posting BS will get you banned. Make another name after you've been banned once and you'll just keep getting banned.
-
If wooden coasters of late have proved anything, getting the living snot kicked out of you is not what's to be expected.

I think your story is interesting. The cracking sound was that loud? Was it from the Rose Bowl? I hear conflicting stories about where the damage to the passengers actually occurred. I do recall reading somewhere of an architect watching the structure sway laterally as the cars made the round. The roughness increased after the crack? I wish of the riders of your car were available to add to this. According to the investigation done by the state, a cracked vertical timber in the "Rose Bowl" caused a deviation between two track joints which created a "bump." As the train navigated the course and came into contact with that bump, it injured the riders, but the ride was able to complete its course. When those riders returned to the station with visible injuries, the ride crew took action and stopped operation - stopping one train on the lift hill so that it would not encounter the problem in the Rose Bowl as well. Those riders on the lift hill were evacuated and the ride then shut down. As for the ride swaying, if you stood in Top Gun's line and looked at the right angle you could se the lift hill sway. This wasn't a flaw, it was supposed to have some give as most tall structures do.

I appreciate the "thanks" and all that, but seriously many of you are missing the point. The old threads are gone because they were filled with crap that buried all the useful conversations and information so with that in mind let's stay on topic, shall we? Thanks for sharing your story! When the ride reopened I thought it was pretty lackluster. The first drop was great, but the rest of the ride was just rough and boring. SOB was never really that good of a ride to begin with. The only interesting part was removed. Thanks! That day was a really fun day.
