Kings Island's Ride to Area Transition!
Gordon Bombay replied to savesonofbeastfb's topic in Kings Island

^I would agree and I don't think many of those who have criticisms now would still be complaining. Clearly there's a standard set in the industry that many other parks have followed and tweaked to their own respective situations. I think there's better options and models to follow out there. What's the old saying? "If you're not going to do something right..."

My Response to the KI Enthusiast Dude Videos
Gordon Bombay replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Kings Island
Eh, it's ok, we still get enough bandwagoners to keep the team from moving. -
So...with this kind of attitude there never would have been an American Revolution...a protest against the Vietnam War... I choose the road less traveled. P.S. Nothing personal Gordon...you know I like you a lot. Trust me, nothing personal taken! You know I think you're awesome. I think the American Revolution and Vietnam are a little dramatic of a comparison, haha. My point is, systems like this are an industry standard and a tiered experience not uncommon in the entertainment realm. Where I see problems with Fast Lane is how they execute it, I think it really gives off an of "unfair" to guests who aren't buying it. Hence why we saw that article someone posted recently. You can use it an unlimited amount of times and while they claim they cap it, they're certainly waiting quite awhile on busy days to cap it. Other parks in the industry utilize timed systems with an electronic assistant, CF gives you a free for all with wristbands and the regular folks waiting in line can clearly see those guests coming back and going over and over again. I think there's a nice balance that can be found to make such a system work well in the eyes of both premium and regular paying customers, they just need to implement that.

^This post, right here! Tiered experience is what this is. These kinds of experiences are everywhere. As Browntggr mentioned - sports stadium, you can also find similarly tiered experiences nearly everywhere you go. A few years ago I flew to New Jersey. It sucked, I had to wait for forever to board my plane. All those people in first class got on first and had better seats. Was I bitter that I couldn't afford those seats? Not at all, if I wanted them I would've bought them. I didn't, but others chose to, good for them. My concerns with Fast Lane is not whether there is a moral issue here about it, there's not - similar things have existed throughout the industry for years and even at KI several seasons ago. Clearly CF has made it clear that they like this program so get over it, it's here to stay. What I'm concerned about is how they execute it. They seem to playing single A ball while even Six Flags has grasped how the MLB handles a Fast Lane system.

Better to make occasional playoff appearances than none at all. -
Who says Stricker's Grove doesn't make enough money? They do nice little improvements each season and seem to add a few rides here and there every few years. They're not a seasonal park, they're a group event venue more than anything. In a way, Coney Island is a similar thing. The rides there appear to be just an added feature/reason for groups to hold picnics/events there.

Ok, let's move on and get back to the topic at hand.

I said they could buy it. The power of underlining is great. Yeah, it is, but you could also just answer the poster's question instead of trying to speak in riddles. One member does that on here sometimes, he's really good at it (hint: I'm not referring to you or speaking in a riddle). To answer your question westcoaster: depending on what your opinion of "behind" the ride is, they do and they don't own the land. You can take a look at the Warren County website to view property lines and titles if you'd like. Kings Island owns most of their land in certain directions all the way back towards the river. Heading towards Great Wolf Lodge the property line eventually ends as they sold off a parcel of land that was once the campground. That land is now a luxury hotel with an indoor waterpark. And as aside: Son of Beast currently sits on land that was once occupied by the Wild Animal Habitat safari monorail. Even after that attraction closed, much of its infrastructure sat in place until they decided to build something else there in a day before there were Facebook pages.

What are your plans for the 2012 Season?
Gordon Bombay replied to KI FANATIC 37's topic in Kings Island
My goal is to avoid going to any amusement parks this year. There's a week in August where I'm going to a Reds game on a Sunday then hopping on a train at Union Terminal that night to Milwaukee where I'll spend a few days and watch the Reds play the Brewers. Then a train to Chicago to watch the Reds play the Cubs a few times. Then a train to Indianapolis to check out the city. Then the train back to Cincinnati all within one week. -
Doesn't Dayton's RTA have a job connection bus to Kings Island? I'm not sure if Montgomery County still funds that route or not. As mentioned earlier, Greyhound will run to Broadway Commons in Cincinnati. From there it's about a 4-5 block walk to Government Square where you can catch a bus (the 71X Job Connector) to Kings Island. You may run into a problem where the 71X only runs in the morning to KI and in the evening. Its service is spotty and geared around when shifts end. I'm not sure how it lines up with Greyhound, but I'd double check on what Dayton RTA runs to KI cause it'll save you a lot of hassle.

I think he meant the one off Kings Mills (?) in the strip mall with the Sunoco.
-
^What do you mean both made the news? I don't recall an accident on The Bat being in the news.

Over the years, I've been lucky enough to have worked with a few coaster video shoots - one for FOF and one for Diamondback. People would get to ride the ride over and over and over again. I can't imagine what happened to the poor souls who had to do that on Son of Beast. Anyone remember the footage of those riders? There was a kid up front wearing goggles on his head...

Kings Island 40th Anniversary Cup Released!
Gordon Bombay replied to savesonofbeastfb's topic in Kings Island
Or maybe they put a roller coaster on the cup because there are roller coasters at Kings Island. Not trying to be mean, Collin WHAT!? YOU MEAN TO TELL ME that they're NOT hinting at FUTURE plans in the DESIGN OF A COLLECTIBLE CUP!? GET OUT OF HERE WITH YOUR LOGIC! -
KIBeast, great to hear from you again! I haven't been to Camden Park since 2008, but it is easily my favorite park. Classic rides, handcrafted artwork, good food, and friendly locals who work there. What I enjoyed most about it is that I felt it was the closest I could get to that old school turn of the century Amusement park feel. Just a neat place. Are they maybe just doing maintenance on these rides? I'll put in a call to a friend and see if anything turns up.

Cedar Fair to Launch Crave
Gordon Bombay replied to Browntggrr's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I always wondered who held that coveted "official flavored milk" title. Was it nestle? Trauth? Mystery swarmed my mind. Now I know! Thanks! -
Or why not make it free, advertise that it's air conditioned and give people a glimpse of what they can see at Dinosaurs Alive? Promote the attraction through a free movie.

Front page problems?
Gordon Bombay replied to CoasterKrazy's topic in KICentral Footnotes & Small News
I spoke with Dane on the phone last night. He plans to fix it as well as some other things. Unfortunately, he just moved and is having problems with his internet provider and his data lines. He currently has no internet aside from his cell phone. He'll get to fixing the site as soon as things settle down. -
Where's the dislike button? We need a dislike button for this post. You're more likely to find $2.00 for the movie than you are to find a dislike button.
-
Apparently not so poorly after all...
-
But they already have Firehawk... kind of. And you don't want that crappy B&M stand up. My trade would be: Diamondback for the Stan Mikita statue that used to be at Carowinds. I'd have more fun watching that.
-
^Come on, biggest failure in amusement history? You clearly forgot about Hard Rock Park.
-
^I'm not entirely sure it was the main hill either and don't believe it was.
