  1. I joined this website when I was 15 years old, at the time I was obsessed with the park - visiting the park was one of my favorite past times. It's still a place I love dearly, but I don't visit as often. The first event I ever went on through this website was an off-season construction tour of the Italian Job: Stunt Track. Since 2005, life has changed for me quite a bit and with it so has KICentral.com. I've had the opportunity to meet many great people through this site - many of whom became close personal friends, helped me professionally or are friends I don't get to see as often anymore. I have a lot of great memories because of KICentral. Even my roommate is a friend I made through this website. Even though it took him forever to purchase a bed and he lived off the couch in our living room for a month and a half, he's still one of my best friends in this world. By the way, Boddah1994 - the power bill came today and I texted you the price. Over the years, people grow up and priorities change. Life takes different paths. I'm not involved with this site as much as I used to be in the past. I went from filling the online galleries here to not posting at all for some time while I shot photographs for other pursuits. Other folks got "real" jobs, got married, moved or just lost interest. Regardless, KIC events were always a good time and meeting people from the forums, even those I often disagreed with, was always nice. Even though times have changed, I'm glad to see KIC users still get together and share their interest in the park and have a good time. I ran into a bunch of the "next generation" of members while briefly visiting the park this past weekend. It was a pleasure running into you guys. You were all very friendly and I hope you all had a nice visit to the park. Thanks for keeping the KICentral tradition alive and well!
  2. ^Not to mention, the Dinosaurs thing and its Trick or Treat event are huge hits with kids. Sorry it's not a B&M, but there's more than just fannypacks at KI.
  3. No offense, but how does experience building a monorail allow you to predict that the demolition will take until November or December? Why would you install footings for a ride you're demolishing?
  4. Without a doubt a majority of the rumors and speculation on these forums tend to be false or simply just that... rumors and speculation. No one is arguing that KIC is any more reliable. However, a vague post on Screamscape saying something big is coming in 2014 doesn't really clarify anything. Hence why he said "take it with a grain of salt." Who knows what, if anything, is coming and what is considered "big." Many users on this site would consider some new roller coaster "big," but as the KI entrance states: Dinosaurs Alive is the "biggest" thing the world has seen in a long time.
  5. I think he's referring to the fact that many things claimed on Screamscape turn out to not be true. Even Screamscape mentions that a lot of it is just rumors and not scripture.
  6. I don't think that gas was that cheap around the park in 2009 when this tour was. Premium gas in that picture appears to be $2-something, so I'm guessing $1.87 or possibly $1.82. This was not long after the late 2008 gas price collapse where gas fell from over $4.00 to as low as $1.50 in places, so those figures sound reasonably accurate. Wow. I don't remember that at all. That's crazy.

  8. In my opinion, the more Cincinnati fare they offer - the better. At one point, the food served at amusement parks was an attraction in itself. It seems that in the 90's many chains of the regional/seasonal variety switched from unique offerings to general fast food options. I don't feel that the LaRosa's and Skyline at Kings Island does those actual companies justice, but in recent years there seems to be more of a push to integrate the local culture at the park. I love the Moerlin Bier Garten. Servatti will hopefully be nice too.
  9. Thanks for sharing these, they're fantastic!
  10. Please read the previous posts before yours. The OP was not disputing that the park has sell outs or that the park shouldn't have sell outs. He took issue with the fact that those days had previously been advertised as open and that the information on different sources was conflicting.
  11. "Back in the day" it certainly did. When it originated, similar theaters were popping up at amusement parks all over the nation. Timberwolf once hosted jimmy Buffet regularly among other folks. In the 90's under Viacom, it also received a lot of acts associated with Nickelodeon sponsored tours (Britney Spears, Aaron Carter, etc). Riverbend soon beat out Timberwolf in nearly every aspect - more seats, better amenities, better sound, larger stage, easier access for tour busses etc. And in recent years, Riverbend added a smaller, more intimate theatre right next door that took even more acts from Timberwolf. When I was younger, my parents took my sisters and I to see Aaron Carter. It was for my sister's birthday, I unfortunately was too young to stay at home and was dragged along to hear the fake tones of aaron carter, the a-teens and Nick Cannon. The seating at Timberwolf is awful - benches that are hardly tiered to allow you a view. It's just an old venue that's been eclipsed by so many others around here. Its only act the past few seasons has been Spirit Song, which tours many other amusement parks as well. As for Sean Hannity's Freedom Concert, it seems the last year for that whole tour was 2010. I believe they cancelled it in 2011 amongst a fundraising scandal and the tour hasn't been done since.
  12. When it's finally over and there's that one sunday left before the park closes for the season.
  13. Boddah1994 and I were talking about abandoned amusement and water parks last night. As some of you know, I tend to like those things. In Greater-Cincinnati we had a few of our own: Surf Cincinnati LeSourdsville Lake/Americana A few years back though, while researching some of this stuff, I came across a peculiar abandoned amusement park find. In the middle of one of the world's "greatest" amusement parks is an abandoned water park from their past. Until its demolition, Disney's River Country sat idle since its closure in 2001: Image via: This Excellent Thread I was telling Boddah1994 about the River Country story and he mentioned to me that Disney had an abandoned resort "somewhere in the Caribbean" that was disused due to ships having a problem reaching it. I've been searching all day trying to find something about this, but can't seem to come up with anything. Anyone have any idea what he was talking about or know more about abandoned Disney?
  14. I took these while flying over the park last summer with a friend. The rest:
  15. As mentioned earlier, there are multiple other SOB topics. Please refer to one of those, such as this one: http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php?/topic/25938-general-son-of-beast-discussion/
  16. I don't know. I doubt he would go forward to the press/fair board without really having investors. It may be that at this time he legally can not name them. When I spoke with Hart on the telephone he genuinely seemed interested in reopening the park. The team I met with when I toured it was just as passionate. While I was hopeful for the Koch deal, it reeked of nonsense and a cout-de-tat ala Geauga Lake. From my own experience in the industry, the rides seemed in bad shape when I visited and later even the Koch's noted that their "ride experts" came to a similar conclusion. I call bullocks on Hart's 2014 projected opening. While it's always sad to see an amusement park closed regardless of its type or relevance to a local community, Kentucky Kingdom has been a bad deal since day one. The whole land and lease issue tied to a fair board that seems to have way too much political power for their own good just kills the whole idea. It's very telling that the only people who have been interested in the park since its closure are nearby competitors and the local man who originally built the park (and subsequently made good money from selling it). Six Flags seemed more than happy to wash their hands of the situation.
  17. But wait, so many claimed they had inside info and that this isn't what was going to happen! To quote the Bosstones: "Where did you go?"
  18. I do not believe so. If you take a look at Delirium's seats, they are bracketed and have different backs that fit to the Delirium gondola, the Crypt seats were similar, but different. There's a member of this site who knows for sure, I'll see if I can get him to rear his head.
  19. Vegas actually had a family friendly image to go away from? They attempted too...They did not exactly succeed. It was pretty much a useless disaster. They were going for a year round vacation destination thing kind of like Disney does, except well Vegas is Vegas... They seem to have gotten back to just looking to attract adults now a days.
  20. ^The mini golf/haunted house thing by the Bob Evan's was actually owned by the same family that owned The Beach.
