  1. I think you'll see what CF's long-term intentions with the whole Nic scenario will be based on whether the original CF parks begin picking up Nic characters. I thought it very interesting (and likely means NOTHING- just thought it interesting)- the whole Charlie Brown/Peanuts gang that CF parks proudly display in their kids areas have their DVD's published by none other than "PARAMOUNT PICTURES."
  2. if i'm not mistaken though, Forest fair was trying to appeal to the upper-income crowd and got trumped when the Kenwood Mall crossed the street. They were trying to introduce stores like Lord & Taylor, a suburban Saks 5th Avenue, Parisian- ie some high-end stores... then try to mix it up with a Biggs, amusement area, and a psychodelic movie theater.... anyone remember those lights?
  3. let me take a different spin on this. This will the place that "dad takes the kids while mom is shopping." My wife and i visited this past week and my thoughts were- ok our daughter and I will hang out here while you stress for hours over the same pair of shoes from three different stores. this will end up being a haven for dads and toddlers.
  4. it would be nice to have reason to think that there is some plausible reason that the 2nd lift/tunnel would lead to something much better than the station. I remember riding it for the first time in 1991 and thinking to myself that maybe there will be a drop at the end, or a turn, or "something" other than........... the station. It is a classic poster-child example of a list of "good" Kings Island rides that fall just short of being 'great.'
  5. I hear there's a certain park north of here having a fire-sale on attractions....
  6. while they may not be the "trains"- are they the facade or mask?
  7. can't sleep... other than that- NO REASON to be up and looking at this. Check out this picture... and there may be only one- did these trains used to spin around a certain "Bat" track at Kings Island? http://www.rcdb.com/ig784.htm?picture=1
  8. i think I heard that CF was moving Top Gun to the Air Force Museum.
  9. the hotel was 90% sold out the weekend we went.... and the longest wait was for the water coaster... and the "toilet bowl"... 20 minutes... long enough to dry off. When you go.. you just have to time out the predictable hours; those who hit the park early are resting/doing other things by 1pm for a while. Parents with small children pack it in for a few hours during "nap time" between 1-6 (not that children, especially mine, nap for 5 hours- but generally that's nap time). and the 3-6 window is after most of the night before crow checks out and before the new batch arrives.
  10. even though we live minutes from the resort, my wife and I decided to plan a group outing and invite friends from our previous city of residence to stay the weekend the first weekend of November. It WAS a BLAST... we were so physically tired that we nearly slept all day the day we came home. Our daughter is too young to appreciate the "specialty" rooms, so we just got the base family suite.... which was more than enough for us. We are going again in February! .... and Firehawk51560.... quickly add an "e" to the "guid" in your banner.
  11. I can't see the www.pki.com URL changing.... that has sort of become it's "brand" identity... plus www.ki.com and kingsisland.com are taken. Changing a URL in the public eye would take a few years to actually get people to use the new one. Delta airlines did that a few years ago... their website used to be www.delta-air.com... to get the delta.com they had to buy it off of the Delta faucet folks.... it's just a matter of does CF want to buy the domain from it's current owners.
  12. Americana would be the only flat I would want from there.... they didn't have the best selection of flat rides.
  13. what's sad is that Paramount management was all set to go head long into the 2006 WinterFest. I wonder had the park not developed instant baggage when CF purchased it if they would have went forward with it (ala SOB accident days after the purchase went public). I agree that the bugs would have been worked out over time. I remember going that year and it was COLD at the start and expensive. I think the paramount management's second attempt would have improved 100-fold from the 2005 edition. I remember speaking with a management person from the park shortly after the decision from sandusky had been made, they remained optomistic that they could persuade CF to reconsider in subsequent years.... but i doubt that many remembered that thought- especially since, and I could be wrong- but a lot of the paramount-years management has turned over.
  14. Woofer, I - for one - will be disappointed (but entertained nonetheless) if next spring we see a torrent of purists flocking to the local Lowes/Home Depot in search of color swatches, then race to match the color to the tower. I would be disappointed, but yet probably not shocked. I like the new color scheme package, which- by the way, started under Paramount.... I think in prep for Winterfest (I could be wrong on that though). When you drove up with the old lighting scheme- if you didn't know what you were looking at, it kind of resembled a UFO at night.... plus this scheme illuminates the entire tower and not just the top.
  15. Coming in 2009 to Carowinds.... Carowinds will become exclusively a Water Park Attraction.... OK... what coasters/flats do we want????
  16. for what it's worth, I read it and it doesn't appear that PETA sanctioned the letter- was just reporting it. Not sure if that meant that they "support it"... but I guess that's for interpretation.
  17. definitely the parking lot tram.
  18. I can't see Congo Falls being removed for anything other than old age/maintenance. It's really in a spot that won't fit anything else... it sort of "fits" its location. Some retheming could add to the experience, but beyond that I can't see much happening to it. I not sure that removing would add much to their bottom line, as it probably doesn't take much to operate it or maintain it. My 2-cents are that it will out-live Top Gun....
  19. actually wooferbear, I was wrong- it wasn't the bally's in Montgomery that closed, it was an old Scandanavian Health Spa location on Montgomery Road in Montgomery. If you're talking about the Bally's at the end of Kenwood Road, it's still there.
  20. no JjAm.... no one's throwing darts here. Computer screens don't have the ability to show sarcasm. i was just commenting to the "recruiting" comment, which I'm not sure churches do across the board.
  21. wow jzarley... "Intellivision"- you just placed a date on yourself.... they had the first real football game... before TECMO-BOWL!!! Would that happen to be the former Bally's in Montgomery?
  22. JjAmS... or whatever the name is.... are you actually being "recruited" or is that your perception? WooferBear.... I think we're on the same page here. The unfortunate thing of all of this is pocket experts are talking out of the area of expertise. I'll preface by saying that I am a Christian... but understand that not all see objects through the same glass I do. At the same time, I tend to agree with both sides of this issue. But for me to try to comment on how the other side should react would be like me trying to fix someone's car for them... I have NO expertise and therefore cannot contribute to the conversation. conversely there are a few comments on this particular thread from some saying what the church "should" be... and I would assume that those individuals have never stepped into that particular church or "a" church for that matter... and therefore don't necessarily have an idea of what a church "should be." agreed. this is a topic that really has no place on this board.... other than the information of "a church buys former "surf cincinnati" site. Guaranteed, this subject would not have lasted this long if, say the United Way bought it... or the Marvin Lewis foundation bought it... though if it was bought for vacationing Bengals, I would have issue with that.
  23. i would dare to say that the majority of October weekend day visitors tend to be Season Pass holders. HH may be a different animal. I could see that crowd being about 50-50. I would think that the majority of the money made isn't from admission, but from the $5 cups of ice with a splash of soft drink. my thought is that an upcharge would mean a reduction in income across the board. today, tomorrow and Wednesday (7-1) could be a good indicator of the public's appetite for a late night event that could be "charged" for.... this three-day run is probably a "test-run" / audition for this type of event.
  24. I agree that the enormous statue along I-75 is a bit much, but if it's idol worship you're talking about.... it is a statue of Christ. I know that is a bit of a stretch. I'll just add my 5 cents to this. This is a conversation / argument / debate that neither of you will win. both have strong opinions that aren't likely to be brought together in this setting. In part I almost think that some of the disgust on this site deal with the fact that the parcel of land off of 275 will never be "Surf Cincinnati" again and not the fact that a church owns it.
