While I greatly enjoy Harry and am excited for the new addition, although I miss Jaws as well. I wonder how much staying power this area will have. The last movie came out in 2011, so the franchise is still fresh in folks minds. But 10 years from now, will Harry still have the same excitement as it does now? I don't know, but it will be interesting to watch.

Some ask is it really that big of a deal regarding brands and capitalization. Well during the construction of Diamondback a rather famous or infamous imaginary structure was built on the Diamondback construction forum, the "TrailerTower." Which honestly took on a life of its own, but was removed fairly quickly once it became sponsored by a non Coca-Cola beverage that invokes images of mountains in the early morning. All traces of those photoshopped images were removed as well. Now a days the TrailerTower is a reminder of how important and serious things like branding, capitalization, and park sponsors are on this site. One of the many reasons this site has the access and favor it does...

Well I don't expect it to be barren concrete like it was.

Five Roller Coasters We're Looking Forward To in 2o14
RailRider replied to The Interpreter's topic in Kings Island
^ Saw FireChaser in person the last day of operation at DW and it looks very impressive for a family coaster. There is twisting track all over the hillside. It reminds me of Stunt Track on some serious steroids. I hope to experience 3 of these coasters this year. Banshee, FireChaser and 7 Dwarfs -
And there is still a potential for some serious cold and a very wet spring. The construction window is very tight. Terpy's post regarding Magic Springs is very relevant to the future of KK as is the history of Magic Springs during post Hart ownership. Worth the read.

Avatarland update?
RailRider replied to Colonel_SoB_fan's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Furry and Mythos are the only things that resemble the original Lost Continent. Dueling Dragons was rethemed as was Flight of the Unicorn. Things like The Enchanted Oak and Sinbad are long gone because after Mythos everything became Potter. -
Freestyle Article & Rides Up For Sale

HRP (FMP) is an industry case for how not to open a new park. Ignore local expertise, bare bones marketing, poor capital planning after the initial investment, poor admissions strategy, and no location study. I wish this park would have succeeded, but it was doomed from the stat. Only wish the folks at the New Kentucky Kingdom would have reviewed the well publicized failure of this park when developing their plan to reopen. Then again the only folks that truly have skin in the game are the tax payers of the commonwealth. Such a blatant case study on failures within the industry and it has completely been ignored. I have never figured out if the powers that be at HRP and NKK opted not to consult local and industry experts out of shear arrogance or stupidity? -
Avatarland update?
RailRider replied to Colonel_SoB_fan's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
As I have said before I am not crazy about the Avatar Theme, but it looks very well done. Also Beastly Kingdom was going to be a land of mythical creatures, see the Lost Continent that has now been bulldozed, so this is basically a much cooler mythical land. Honestly if the concept was presented without Avatar tied in, folks would be going bonkers over it. Claiming how imaginative Disney Imagineering was and how this new area would amaze like Tomorrowland did when it first opened. Consider this the appetizer that will wet the appetite for what is ahead at the Studios. Cars and Star Wars expansions. -
Is it just me or does the batwing look monsterous sitting down in the valley? The change of elevation on this ride has made for some huge elements.
-
"The New Kentucky Kingdom will not have security concerns" Is that preposterous enough for you.

Next time I am that far South and make it past The World I will check it out.

Sorry not a fan or Chicago Dogs, prefer mine roasted over an open camp fire with standard condiments. Now for food the Whaling House in Williamsburg is fabulous and Captain Georges for Calabash Seafood is not too shabby either.

I'm leaning towards BGW. Very beautiful park, has more character than BGT, and I enjoy the surrounding area of Williamsburg much more than Tampa.

All ready visited Dollywood for 2014, last day of the season. Will be visiting over the summer and at Christmas again. Random trips to KI and we are discussing a trip to Disney World around Christmas for all of the Festivities. Since we did MNSSHP 2 seasons ago.
-
Right because weather is not a concern with construction projects. I would be shocked if it is open by mid summer. Maybe that is why the press release was late on a Saturday night. If people don't know about it they wont be upset when its not open.
-
For one the workers are used to working in all weather conditions and I know from past project management experience they have exposure guidelines and requirements that are followed. So while they are working in these conditions I would say they are doing it wisely and are completing other jobs rather than raising steel. The bigger concern I would have is how this weather is effecting a soon to reopen park a little ways south of KI that still needs to pour footings for its new coaster?

Dick's Last Resort Coming to The Levee
RailRider replied to Oldiesmann's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Count me as one who will not be attending. I have never understood the enjoyment of being harassed by employees while eating low quality over priced food. Then I am supposed to tip them for such an experience. I guess I miss the fun in that. -
What is frustrating is waiting for people to place their hat, sunglasses, stuffed animal, basketball, and backpack in the bin before they sit down and buckle in. If it cannot be secured to my person I do not carry it in the park or on the ride. Then again some folks approach KI as if they were visiting Disney and pack everything but the kitchen sink for the day.

Just got back from Dollywood, we were there on the 4th last day of the season. Amazing to have such a great day and none of the outdoor coasters were open and we only rode the Barnstormer and Blazzing Furry. Then again like many have said Dollywood is much more than Cedar Point South and the shows and talent were top notch. The production quality and special effects of The Christmas Carol were amazing. Well done Dolly. Anyways when we walked past Fire Chaser Express, I was amazed at the size and scope of this ride. My daughter was begging to come back and ride it next year. The best way to describe it is Stunt Track on some serious steroids. It is huge and fits the hillside perfectly. This area of the park is going to be jammed next season with Wild Eagle, Firechasser, and Tennessee Tornado so close. And yes we applied our admission to season passes for next year. Very reasonable prices, plus the fact that Little Miss RailRider is tall enough to ride everything, plus will grow the 1/2 inch needed to ride Wild Eagle (only has a 50inch height requirement), it was an easy decision. Looking forward to a season full of Cinnamon Bread and Blue Ice Cream. 2 parks that really hit the family demo out of the park, yet are completely different.

What's going to happen when the park opens and thrives beyond "your" expectations, are you just going to find some other park to bash? Or will you just comment about how none of the flowers grow the way you'd like them to, or how the temperature of the water in the fountains are not to your liking. Nothing good will ever come from those who can't let others grow. Honestly I am not bashing the park to just bash a park. I hope and wish for all parks to be successful, especially newish ones. But... Having seen enough failure in the industry one can only question the choices and lack of choices that have been made regarding KK. I hope they have something up their sleeve after year 1, but what I see and what they say do not equate to this parks long term success.

As more and more comes out, I think we should open a KK Days of Operation before Park Closure Pool. Get some votes, make some money, close the doors. This place is starting to make HRP look like it had a chance.
