RollerCoaster Tycoon Classic
Oldiesmann replied to Gplez90's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
At least that one should run on most modern computers. I may have to check that out at some point since I don't see myself being able to play Planet Coaster anytime soon (I can't justify spending that kind of money on a new computer just to play one particular game when my laptop works fine for all my computing needs at the moment). -

You're going to need a pretty beefy laptop for Planet Coaster... https://www.reddit.com/r/PlanetCoaster/comments/52v6yu/minimum_and_recommended_system_requirements_for/ Minimum: Intel i5-2300 / AMD FX-4300 processor, 8GB of RAM, 2GB graphics card (nVidia GTX560 / AMD Radeon 7850) Recommended: Intel i7-4770 / AMD FX-8350, 16GB of RAM, 4GB graphics card (nVidia GTX980 / AMD R9 380) It's definitely possible to play it on a laptop, but make sure you're aware of the requirements/recommendations before buying one so you're not disappointed. -

Christmas Nights of Lights Coming to Coney Island
Oldiesmann replied to CoastersRZ's topic in Coney Island Central
Looks like it should be a great display, but the price will turn a lot of people away unfortunately. Get three or more people over the age of 3 in a car and it's cheaper to go to Sharon Woods. -
Not a lot of updates on this at the moment (which is understandable given the seriousness of this situation). According to various sources, the park had planned to hold a memorial service for the victims last week and reopen this past weekend, but those have been put on hold until the investigation is complete. The park is currently closed until further notice according to their website. A CNN article from Wednesday said the park was supposed to release a statement on the rescheduled memorial service and when they planned to reopen today, but that didn't happen (it's currently 2am Tuesday morning there).

That's what I get for posting when I'm half asleep. Fixed. Thanks for pointing that out -
Christmas Nights of Lights Coming to Coney Island
Oldiesmann replied to CoastersRZ's topic in Coney Island Central
More details have been posted (see link in first post above). The event will run from dusk to 10pm every day from November 11th through January 1st. A portion of the proceeds will benefit charity (the Salvation Army and the Ruth Lyons Children's Fund). The one thing that baffles me though is the pricing structure: $6 per person, with children 3 and under getting in free. Per person. For a drive-through display. I commented on the post on their FB page asking why it's per person for a drive-through display, and several others have complained about the price as well. Hopefully they'll change their mind prior to the opening, or this could end up being the only year due to "lack of interest" (since it's cheaper with 3+ people age 4 and over to just go to Sharon Woods where it's $13 per carload for normal vehicles). -
That link doesn't work because someone tried to embed the tweet rather than just link to it. Here are the links to both the Twitter and Facebook videos of the top-off. Glad to know that's how it works. I logged into the payment portal tonight and went to print my Fast Lane ticket only to be presented with a message saying that the order didn't have any tickets to print (then why did it give me that option?). I plan to use mine tomorrow. I'm thinking the park might be busy due to the nice weather and I might as well use it since it didn't cost me anything.

The park's website and Facebook page now display the following message: According to an article from news.com.au (which has compiled information from several sources), this happened near the end of the ride when one raft hit an empty raft and flipped over. The article also says that the ride uses velcro straps to secure riders, rather than the latching seatbelts seen on Whitewater Canyon. http://www.news.com.au/national/queensland/at-least-four-people-injured-after-serious-dreamworld-incident/news-story/ab194466f5fd49e1e1c17e5468bbbd47

Brendan Carey records 3000th ride on Banshee!
Oldiesmann replied to Oldschool75's topic in Kings Island
I don't know how many Banshee rides I'm at. I try to keep track of rides during the season, but that's about it. I'm nowhere near 3000 rides on anything at KI though to my knowledge. -
An evacuation using that "yellow thing" would take a ridiculous amount of time since it can only accommodate four riders at a time.

Stumbled across this while looking for info on a completely unrelated subject. One site reports that three have been injured and another person has died: http://www.9news.com.au/National/2016/10/25/15/48/Reports-of-at-least-one-dead-in-serious-Dreamworld-ride-accident Another site says that four have been injured, one seriously, but the death has not been confirmed yet: http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/national/incident-at-dreamworld-on-gold-coast-injures-1-several-people-trapped/news-story/c9215c32c484c2a740af4fa7e16df102 According to Wikipedia, Dreamworld is the largest theme park in Australia, located in Gold Coast, a city on the east central coast in the southern part of the state of Queensland. The park's website is currently offline, though you can view a snapshot of it due to fancy web technology: http://www.dreamworld.com.au

https://www.facebook.com/BuschGardensVA/posts/10154134276123315 Grab some popcorn and have fun reading the comments. While I feel bad for people who are affected by this, some of the comments are ridiculous - particularly the passholders complaining that they're not open during the week this time of year...
