  1. Not a whole lot of info yet, but the park is reportedly closed for the day now. http://www.kctv5.com/story/32704011/person-dies-at-schlitterbahn-water-park
  2. According to the New York Times, this time the problem was a bearing failure: http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2016/07/29/us/politics/ap-us-washington-monument.html And they're already looking to modernize it to fix the issues. Hopefully that will include a thorough review of all maintenance/repair procedures to ensure that's all being done properly.
  3. I'd imagine that aggravated assault charge won't help his case here - just further evidence that this guy is prone to violence. Hopefully Florida law allows for a pretty severe punishment in this case.
  4. I don't recall them having one when I visited in 2010, but I could be mistaken. I don't remember a whole lot about that park since it was just a day trip and that's the only time I've ever been out there.
  5. Another HUSS Enterprise is seeing its last days. https://www.valleyfair.com/what-s-new/enterprise-announcement/?mobile=0 Anyone know how many of these are left now? I know that CP and KK both have them still.
  6. This just came across my Facebook news feed. https://www.facebook.com/coneyislandpark/posts/10157174400875526
  7. Technically there's nothing that would prevent them from scrapping the launch and going with a traditional lift chain. With enough time and money, anything is possible. How much work that involves and how much it would cost is anyone's guess. I imagine it wouldn't be cheap at all though.
  8. Keep in mind that winters in Sandusky are harsher than they are down here. Even with Cedar Point opening later than Kings Island, the weather doesn't give them as much time to work.
  9. I've only ridden Mean Streak twice but I really don't understand the complaints about it being rough. Maybe it's gotten better in recent years, but I thought it was a fun coaster and not really any worse than other wood coasters. I don't know if I'll make it back up there before it closes. 10. The 4pm opening of resorts is likely to give them time to handle checkouts and cleaning, since 4pm is typical check-in time for many hotels.
  11. According to the Facebook page American Amusement Park Museum and Club, there was some flash flooding at NJFTP earlier today. I can't find much info on the situation though - not even on the park's own Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/aapmac/videos/822020094599181/ https://www.facebook.com/aapmac/videos/822020684599122/
  12. There is a way to link to specific comments actually. If you can provide a link to the video I'll find that comment and link to it
  13. Really looking forward to this. The one GCI I've ridden (Kentucky Rumbler) was a lot of fun, and I think this will be a great addition to the park - another good family coaster that's not as wild or intimidating as The Beast. We're also getting our second new coaster in three years.
  14. If signing up for Livestream bothers you that much, just use a disposable email address such as those available from guerrillamail.com - it's completely anonymous and the email address only has to exist for as long as you need it to.
  15. Also speaking of food, if you have time on your way back, swing by Leavenworth and hit up The Overlook Restaurant for food (exit 92 off I-64, head south on 66, keep left at the fork, then turn left onto 62). Amazing views and great food as well.
  16. When I was at Cedar Point last week, I heard a guest complaining to the greeter at Valravn about not being able to use Fast Lane during ERT...
  17. I stayed at Knights Inn in Sandusky last year. Nice big comfortable room, good price and decent breakfast (donuts, bagels, cereal, etc.) and about 10 minutes from CP (keep going down 6 past CP Drive and it's the last hotel on the left actually within Sandusky city limits). This year I stayed at Econolodge on Route 6 because Knights Inn wasn't available one of the nights I was staying in the area. It's an older hotel with newer renovations (HD TVs, modern rooms, etc.). Decent breakfast as well (Belgian waffles, bagels, English muffins, cereal, coffee, etc.). My only major complaint was that the bed was hard as a rock, so it wasn't very comfortable. If you like sleeping on firm mattresses it shouldn't be a big deal.
  18. It's definitely an interesting place, especially with the hotel and lake/beach, but there's not a lot there to draw people there from outside the area. It's kind of in the middle of nowhere as well (from I-90 I got routed through various small towns before ending up on the road next to the park, and routed through more small towns to I-79 to get to Erie), which doesn't help. With a ton of work it could possibly be a tourist area again but it seems more like a bunch of rides set up to give people visiting the lake something else to do. Sent from my LG G5 using Tapatalk
  19. That wouldn't work too well for families (one person refilling cups for the entire family or parents refilling cups for their kids) and still doesn't solve the problem for those who don't have passes (since all-season cups are available to everyone, not just passholders).
  20. Hersheypark is beginning to drop clues about their new attraction for next year. They also have a contest going right now where you can win a 2017 pass and be one of the first to ride said new attraction next year. See http://www.hersheypark.com/2017/index.php for more info and to enter.
  21. Wish I didn't have to work weekends so I could go see the movies, but I'll probably at least make it up there one day that week (I typically go to KI once a week at the moment).
  22. I don't know if this has been mentioned here yet, but apparently Cedar Point is now offering valet parking for twice the cost of regular parking ($40). It debuted on the 7th and is operated by a company out of Cleveland called MVP. https://www.facebook.com/mvpvaletservices/posts/876327842495443 https://www.facebook.com/cprundown/photos/a.369208953172216.88126.349928541766924/1072868569472914/?type=3 There doesn't appear to be any mention of it on the park's website, but I read a post from someone who tried it out before it officially rolled out and apparently you can request your car via a website and have it waiting for you at the front gate when you get there (if I can find that post I'll link to it as well).
  23. Hopefully the park will still be open when I'm up there in just over a week..
