I've always had a thing for wooden roller coasters. This is of course after I got over my fear of coasters in general. I love speed on any kind of coaster. The faster I'm traveling the more I laugh. However, there are smaller coasters that are good as well. For instance, I think Adventure Express really speeds for a mine train coaster. So, I'm usually giggling like a tween when I'm on the ride.

More Photos from my previous post looks like they were having a good deal on the family dryer model Mine Ride through the trees... and into the station... The ride that ate my day... Who says Cedar Point doesn't have charm? Ditto I kept trying to get both arms in the picture, but I kept missing... Got it... opps nope darn Ahh I found more charm... and a few trees. I think I might be on to something. Another picture of Mantis from PE consisting of some seriously twisted steel Although not a great shot, it was of a great ride so why not... We came... we saw...we had fun That's it until next time I guess

Earlier this week my girlfriend and I decided it was time to hit CP for the first time this year. So, we all hit the bed early saturday night for the trip up there Sunday. I watched the weather closely and Sunday turned out to be beautiful. As a plus, I got my first credit as driving to the point. I'm 21 and have had my liscense for a while, but never drove on the interstate until recently. We arrived at the point at about 9:45 which was about half hour later than I expected due to a trip through McD's drive thru and several very slow sunday drivers. I still had time to try to at least get one ERT ride so we hurried to the gate. Our KI platinum passes scanned fine. However, the person at the gate literally inspected us before he granted us entrance. He looked me up and down, and asked my girlfriend to remove her glasses as he leaned in to stare at her. I had to kind of chuckle at that. Are they having problems with people abusing the passes? I wasn't sure how to get in for ERT so I asked an employee. Once he saw my pass he stated that he wasn't sure if the KI pass was valid for it. He read the back of the pass for a moment and then let us in. We hit Raptor in the front seat at 9:58. After the trip we realized that the day was going to be pretty good because the parking lot was empty and the toll booths were almost vacant from cars. The Raptor queue barely filled up even with people entering as we sat in the brakes for a second. After hitting Blue Streak, my thoughts were all but confirmed. I sat in the very back by myself along with the only other two people in the train being in the front car. Great air, but I think I'll stick to the front of BS from now on. It was funny because the train dispatched in front of us as well as the train we got off of were dispatched empty. We came to Iron Dragon next to find that it was down. It would stay this way until about 4 when I noticed they were testing the ride. We instead headed to Mantis to find an almost empty station. I am a Mantis fan and had a great ride. The loop on that thing is insane. It gets me every time. I was pumped and MF was still down (expected this) So, we decided to head for our biggest wait of the day, Maverick. I knew this was going to be our biggest wait. What was should of been a 45 minute wait turned into an hour and a half. I have never been more dissapointed in the Maverick crew. Usually they are top notch, but they were hardly that sunday. First off, they had all of the fans on in the queue house. It was a cold day on Erie so they were in no way necessary. We noticed that the line quit moving several times. Once it stopped completely for about 10 minutes all the while we were under a fan blowing like crazy. Finally the line started to move and we made our way through the remaining queues that were open. Once up the steps I somewhat realized why the line was halting at times. There was no one sorting seats and the station was packed. I have never once seen this on Maverick. We took a row and then I realized what the 10 min wait had been. They had transfered off the gunmetal train and an official was working on it on the transfer track. Well when we got up to the gates with only two rides in front of us they decided to put the train back on. So we waited for that, and then several moments after that we were on the ride. As we got on, I noticed that an employee had finally put a measuring stick in the way to block more people from pouring in the station. Meanwhile there is not and has not been a person talking on the ride, so there was lots of confusion on where to put your things. The lady that checked my seat was pretty rude to the guest in front of me about his glasses. However, I still said thanks as she checked my belt. Finally I got to ride. It was great as usual until I got an extended ride with a 15 minute sit on the brake run. They had decided to take that train off again. No one once communicated to us what was going on, for all we know we could have been about to fall off the track. Although highly unlikely, someone telling us what was going on would have been nice. The rest of the day was not as eventful, however it was fun. Kudos to the Magnum crew as they were great and were pumping out trains like crazy. The ride is insane and is one of my favorites. I would take it over MF any day because of it massive amounts of air through the bunny hops. Mean Streak was surprisingly a few train wait, When I got to the gates they annouced a delay as they were changing trains out. They switched red out for green and the ride quickly began operation. They annouced it several times about the slight delay. I thought this was nice. I still like the ride and love the way it snakes through itself. I can tell a difference but even in the second seat it was still kind of rib, rib, kidney if ya know what I mean. Corkscrew was also an interesting experience during our trip. The crew was obviously having a good time joking several times over mics. This was in addition to being serious about their jobs. One thing I have to mention though is the joke they were playing on us riders. The person on the mic mentioned to make sure we placed articles in the White bin even though they weren't using that train. When the first person went to lift the lid and put thier stuff in they jumped back. An op had stowed away in the bin and was providing some extra laughs. Although this would probably be frowned on I thought it was a nice touch. Overall, we got in all the rides we wanted too including rerides on Mantis (front seat) and Magnum. This was in addition to relaxing several times and riding a few flats. We got in Ocean Motion, Scrambler, and Tilt a Whirl (my favorite flat) As far as food goes, I spent quite a few nickles. We decided to take someones advice and try Game Day Grill. I wasn't sure on its location and didn't have a map. I happened to see an employee on the midway and see stated she had never heard of it. So I stepped into a nearby shop to get the same answer from another employee. Luckily the supervisor was stocking the shop and overheard my question. He quickly came over and gave me specific directions on how to get there. I know its early, but how are people supposed to spend money on food in the park when employees don't even know of certain locations? The service at the restaurant was good and the people were friendly. However, the food took a while to get there as a party of like 15 ordered right before us. I thought my food was very good and so did my girlfriends friend. However, my girlfriend wasn't impressed as her club sandwich had a few stale pieces of bread along with not stale bread. The price was not bad though and rivaled many sit down places I've been. The drinks were outragous though. We also, had some very delicious and not that steeply priced chili cheese fries from Happy Friar and some frozen custard from the main midway. The custard was so good, I had another cone later in the day before we left. I'm going to take time now for my main complaint of the day, which was downtime. I know it is early in the season, but I saw several instances where things were down as we walked by. As stated Iron Dragon didn't open till way late. Raptor went down for a while and was cycling empty trains while we ate. Also, Mantis was down for a few moments. Maxair and Witches Wheel (Which they were lubing i guess because there were barrel label lube sitting in the queue) went down for a few hours. Then there was the whole Maverick fiasco along with a few more instances that slip my mind. I know that it is early, but I think when downtime happens it makes the park look bad especially with one of its star attractions out of action. It also kind of bugged me that a few times when I went to do something it was down. Also, I want to note that I think Mine Ride may be on it's way out. There were orange flag markers underneath the queue and station as well as in some other spots. It looks like this ride has seen better days. When I rode it was quite funny though as some one was humming very loudly the Indiana Jones theme in the station. All in all though I had a great day and can't complain about the amount of fun I had. I even got to take strolls on the Skyride, Paddlewheel Excursions, and the train which was nice. Now for the pics Mine Ride with Mean Streak in the background. we were in the middle of a fued on Paddlewheel Excursions More PE theme Least we know it's safe if we sink I call this the money shot... even if I've only experienced the ride once Beautiful day for dragster to dominate the sky My favorite flat ride that always offers a different experience My girlfriends dad would love this in his yard Gemini peaking above the trees. It's hiding because it is ashamed of one side operation Me on Raptor kicking the sky during ERT In good KIC nature i had to post a pic of food. These fries are one of the greatest CP food offerings. Mantis about to pray on some riders, wait i'm on here too. Even though it came out dark, I like the effect The only ones enjoying the cold sand and water were the seagulls Everything looked to be back to normal These people are crazy Same with these ones... I love the way the wheel towers over you New sign heading towards Maverick, adds a nice touch

It is a large building located in Oktoberfest across from Viking Fury. It it home to a Larosas and Panda Express. You can also get several other kinds of food such as burgers, fries, chicken tenders, and mac and cheese. There is also a very large eating area inside to enjoy your food. Along with the food, there is a set of restrooms, some arcade games, and a bar serving cold ones. This is also home to the live entertainment shows "The County Line" and "Down Home Country".

RWCW Photo Contest Winner to Be Announced Today
AgentSoB replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Kings Island
Well congrats to Ty... after all of the great photos in his TR's it is nice to have one pay off for him. I said to myself several times throughout the event that a picture consisting of a not widely photographed ride would win the contest. The people are having fun in the pic and the splash is timed just right. You can see SoB in the background which is nice as well as the tree in front view. It is everything Kings Island rolled into one. Congrats again and kudos for taking a good photo. **It has taken me almost 3 years to do it but I finally hit 100 posts -
Yeah, I can agree with that, a night ride on AE is pretty good. I love the ride period. My girlfriend and I giggle through the entire thing. I don't think I've had a trip with out taking it for a stroll. Brings me back to the memories about the clock. We'd ride AE then go for some food in the Festhaus. We usually enjoyed the scenery by VF while the food settled. I remember several times myself or my sisters doing the chicken dance with my grandparents as the clock rang in the background. Memories like this should be able to readily be made in the park. If little things keep on dissapearing families may begin to leave.

Nice report, seems like you had a good time. Day like what you described are some of the best in the park. My family always gets on my back about going on weekdays after work. This early in the season they are almost a guarantee that you are in for some good riding. It sure beats a crowded weekday.

I'll be there this Sunday, so I'll take a ride for you all if it is open. This is completely freaky, but I have trust that they will take care of it to the fullest extent. Cedar Fair is good for this generally... least some kind of theming or charm didn't break. If that was the case, it would be hanging there all season. -
I think these are all great ideas... I think KI would be a good candidate for a B&M invert Patriot style. Also, I too think a S&S swing would go perfect in Xbase to launch it as a new area. This area would of course also include a few restaurants, shops, and a restroom. Besides that, i think a giant wheel in Coney Mall would fit the deal. My dream would be for a complete retracking and reprofiling of the Son of Beast rosebowl complete with a tunnel like papa and gasp a trim before the tunnel. Also, this would mean that the midcourse could be turned off or darn close to it. Plus, custom made to fit the gauge of the track MF trains couldn't hurt. Other than that some paint on Flight Deck and the other rides that need it along with the FH clock being fixed.

I want to make it down to Dominion sooo bad. The last trip I took to to the Island that King Cobra was running it rained for a slight period and the ride never opened back up following the storm. I never imagined that would of been my last chance to ride it. I want to get on Shockwave badly, just to experience what Cobra may have been like.

I voted for Shake, Rattle, and Roll as my favorite flat ride. Quite simple... I love the Scrambler and S,R,R is similar, but in the air. Viking Fury (-the middle) and Delirium make me green, and I've been to chicken to try Drop Tower or The Crypt. At 21 years of age I fill silly to be afraid of rides... put me on any coaster and I'm fine (cept Wicked Twister and the like). However, flats are a different story for me. I plan to make it on Crypt now since in has been dulled down.

Yeah... I've seen that episode of mythbusters. It reminded me of the unfortunate Kentucky Kingdom accident although not a completely similar situation. The concern I have is can that cable just sway in the breeze like that, hopefully the situation doesn't become worst. The train disengaged properly I hope because there could be damage to that as well... -
I've requested the front nicely three times now and have been denied each time. Only once was it a busy day at the park when I rode. One instance, the line was not filled and the front row only had two people in it. I wasn't happy at first, however I was assigned the back car front seat, so I quickly changed my mind.

Dragster stuck at the top!
AgentSoB replied to gigacoaster2k's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
that video is crazy... I remember watching it for the first time. I showed it to my grandparents and they were almost in shock. Ever funnier is when we visited the point last summer my grandmother had a cow when we all rode it. She was watching when we pulled out to launch. The last thing I saw was her covering her eyes. She went on all day about what she would of done to us if we got stuck up there. -
Yeah I noticed this the past trip. The doors are broken and open. You can see the figures in the door. Hopefully this is fixed because it was a nice piece that added charm to the area.

I never rode the ride that was Tomb Raider, nor did I participate in the program that it was previously running. However, I just have this thing with tight flips or inversions. However, I'm going to give it a shot the next time I'm there. I tried to talk the girlfriend into it today, but she wasn't game. She still thinks it is running the same Tomb Raider program and I'm just trying to get her to ride it again.

I've got the feeling of slipping a few times on DB especially during ERT at the event. Although I know it is perfectly safe, I still get a creepy feeling from time to time. For fun though I like to do what Ogrmac termed as "The Superman"/ Lean forward as much as possible on the first drop with your fists out. It makes the slipping feeling even more outrageous. Although I spent our second to last ride of the night screaming, "NO MORE SUPERMAN". We were in the very back seat, a place where you usually won't find me... Also, I was a victim of The Racer stapler during ERT. I felt like they was trying to get the second click on a person that barely fits. I was smashed... on a ride I fit fine on.

Nice TR glad to see that a good time was had... I take it the wide isn't a thrill junkie? Cedar Point is truly an amazing place. As far as Gemini goes... I personally love the ride and think it has a few good pops of air and a very effective head chopper. However, I can see how it is not some peoples cup of tea...
-
I'm not sure of the years but Top Gun was previously a red color for a few years... If you look in the station and some other parts of the ride you can see it coming through. This is of course also along with the rust and the fading grey that covered up the red.
-
You take some really good quality photos... Some of your shots of DB are pretty unique. With all of the trip reports, it is surprising to see all of the unique angles I have seen.

I'm going to poke my head in here in this little convo... Obviously I'm a fan of Son of Beast, however, I can see people the reason for people's complaints. Yes it is rough... Sometimes I even say oww. I look at it this way though; there are so many different tastes out there, that it really shouldn't matter who likes the ride. Some people don't like DB because it is too tall, some people don't like AE because the theming doesn't work anymore, and some don't like Invertigo because it goes backwards. There are many reasons for people not to like a ride. Even if a line doesn't constitute popularity, there are still people lining up to experience the ride. Before the accident, I rode SoB 14 times in a row on a Saturday. There was never a line, and never cheering in the station from the riders. (Even the preteen girls weren't screaming then). Does it need a little bit of work yes... The rosebowl needs a tunnel as a tribute to daddy as well as a bit of retracking and perhaps... Gasp a trim. Also, the midcourse could then be turned down a bit. While this would be nice it is ok without it (Minus the rosebowl retracking, it needs done reguardless).

As far as KI goes I own a first rider tee for Firehawk, as well as two for Diamondback. I've also got a black DB shirt from DB Trading Post. Finally, I also have a Son of Beast shirt I bought last year and the CF VIP pullover. From CP i have a Magnum shirt, a Maverick hoodie, and two Maverick first rider tees.

I had a great time at RWCW and it gave me an opportunity to write my second trip report. As far as FOF goes... I only ride it a few times a year due to the line. Each time I've rode, except for one instance, it has screeched to a halt at the midcourse. The only time it didn't do it was my first ride on it in 2003. The ride went straight through the midcourse and hammered on...

I figured I would add my madness to all of the trip reports. Although I haven't went through all my photos, I figured I'd still post. (I'll update when I get the rest of my photos) I will start off by saying that I have attended several events and this is the first time I've really hung out with the crowd. It kind of worked out great, because my girlfriend was sick and I made the trip saturday at 4:00 am alone. It was the perfect opportunity to get to know some people. Also, this is the first drive to KI that I have made solo. I arrived on time to a smooth check in just like most have reported. The ERT was a fantastic opportunity to ride Backlot as I got 6 rides on it. After this, i decided to seek out a ride on Vortex in seat 5-1. I goofed up and ended up in 5-2. Orgmac and her friend Robin got seat 5-1. So, I reintroduced myself to them and we went our seperate ways. I decided to take a break after the ride due to my shoulder hurting. I dislocated it a few weeks back and Vortex did a number on it. While doing this I snapped some photos of the ride. It was here I got picked up by the KIC group including everyone from JustinM17 to PKIRuler102. I joined them and gave Vortex another shot. Diamondback was opening and we proceded to go get our rides on that. I am proud to say I was a part of the 22 person ride on DB. Thanks to the DB crew for cooperating and to Avatar for organizing the group. We took a group photo in front of the exit of DB and then proceded to The Crypt. I sat out on Crypt due to being a chicken. However, I had a decent converstion with PKIRulers dad. After this I hung out with Ogrmac and Robin for most of the day. You all know most of the details from the walkbacks, so I won't bore you with another story. I do have to say thanks to StalkerChick for inviting me to set with her and her friend in the KI Theater. Her pics were awesome... We looked at them while waiting for the presentation to begin. Also, I have to say that the birthday party for The Beast was a standout for me. I thought it was well done and a great time. Thanks to everyone who helped make that event happen. I also want to mention that I convinced Ogrmac and Robin to take a night ride on Son of Beast. It inherits a great trait from its daddy... Also, it is a great ride to be going up on during the fireworks. The op even mentioned that to us as we were boarding. Low and behold, all of us had an enjoyable ride. While they still might not be fans they really had a good ride. DB ERT was after this and we got 11 rides in a row. I retired after 11 because I was ready to fall asleep. Sunday This day was a standout for me because my family was coming to the park to spend some time with me. I woke up for RWCW at 6:45 only to get lost on my way from my hotel. I figured hey I missed 71 I know the streets enough to get to the park. I made a wrong turn on Columbia. I stopped to ask for directions and made it to the park at 8:10. This turned out not to be my only problem for the day. (More on that later). ERT was great again and lights on FOF was awesome. I met up with Ogr and Robin again and got rides on All the ERT rides (-Firehawk) along with DB, AE, and Backlot. After this my family was arriving, and it was time to meet them at the gate. Turns out, I forgot a coupon I had at home for discount admissions at the gate. So, I had to make a trip to the local Meijer quick like to buy tickets. So, I killed an hour off my families trip. I also missed The Racer walkback. Orgmac was nice to send me photos though. To make a long story short the trip turned out to be great for my family they got two rides on DB and hit up several coasters. We even had our usual Son of Beast ride. The highlight of the night was my grandpa on the Dodgems. He is ruthless... The only other negative thing about the day was my ever growing sunburn. I still made the SoB tour so I was excited. I am in total awe standing underneath that ride. It makes my love for that ride grow even more. It broke my fear of coasters several years ago and I've liked it ever since. I truely think it is a piece of art. Total rides this weekend Vortex: 5 BLSC: 7 FOF: 2 Blue Racer: 3 Red Racer: 2 AE: 1 Flight Deck: 2 The Beast: 5 Son of Beast: 2 Diamondback: 15 Firehawk: 0 Zephyr: 1 Now for a couple pictures. (The Racer photos are courtesy of Ogrmac) Behind the scenes shots are always good! least they are attempting to race... Blue always gets its butt handed to it. Here they come... Can I give it a hug?? I kind of messed this up... we were supposed to be peeling our faces back. I was just having a good time. I remember this time as we are the three monkeys... I'm "speak no evil". I came up with "smell no evil" for the single rider that was paired with Robin. I'll post more photos once I get them on a disk at work. My card reader at home will not read my 4GB card. I mention monday in my title because I attended WWE Raw in Columbus. I'm a wrestling fan and that event along with the RWCW made things even better.
