  1. Has as much to do with Halloween as it would to Christmas, Valentines Day, St. Patrick's Day, etc. About as much as Christmas has to do with Halloween. But that section on Coney Maul was my favorite part of the display last year. I had to go by twice before I realized what I was looking at. I agree, but people unfortunately didn't 'get it'. It was supposed to be a meet and greet area where you could stop by and enjoy it at will. Unfortunately, it didn't go over so well. If you actually spent time in that area and interacted with the characters, it was really creepy. I remember one time Santa started going off on me because I never appreciated the things I got for Christmas as a child. Plus you can't beat the fake snow and the Christmas music played backwards. It was absolutely brilliant and no one gave it the time of day.
  2. For those of you who haven't seen this yet, all of KIC's archived videos are now in KICentral's YouTube account. Feel free to check out some of the older ones. I know a lot of you haven't been around since 2003 so you can see interesting media day clips, press announcements, end of season tributes and more!
  3. that would be really cool ... maybe next year They did it from the water tower in AZ last year. Photo
  4. So you're saying that a park with a very small kids area and very intense rides is more family friendly than a park that has the best kids area in the world? I mean, I agree that Halloween Haunt isn't for kids but that doesn't make Kings Island overall less family friendly. Plus they do have the Nick-or-Treat which is very specifically geared towards kids.
  5. I like how the thread is implying that Halloween Haunt isn't drawing over 30K people a night. It is, and they'll be back.
  6. Actually, the main reason for the Ohio lawsuit was that people were being sold "open item" products as new. However, I'm sure that in almost all cases it was an honest mistake. I've done it myself more than a few times. If the person before me gets something returned and puts it with the others without marking it, it can easily be mistaken for new products. You'd be surprised by how many problems can be resolved by simply reading. I have a number of media contacts that I have acquired through my work on here, and they call me all the time about people complaining to them and wanting them to do a story. I simply email them a link with the return policy as well as the service plan information, and that clears it up... almost always.
  7. When you're a member of KIC, there's never really an offseason. Stay tuned.
  8. I've seen people kicked out of line and kicked out of the park for line jumping. It's rare, but it does happen.
  9. Problem being that they don't have a wood coaster maintenance department so they'd have to start one from scratch, which doesn't sound cheap...
  10. I thought the Owen Wilson thing was funny... then again when the park told me that "No one and nothing is off limits" I didn't ask for exceptions.
  11. There's actually more to the display than you think. Has anyone noticed that Death has an Easy Button on his desk? Or have you look at his DVD collection? It's about 15 horror movies and then High School Musical. ha ha
  12. Distasteful? Yes! Hilarious? Yes!
  13. I'm glad you cleared the up. I must admit that when I read the first few words, I was thinking ex-con. I also think it's rude when non-smokers go to the smoking sections and just sit there on the benches while smokers are forced to stand. If you expect a smoker to respect a non-smoker's space, it has to go both ways. Any takers? If there are any communications grad students out there, I think a good thesus would be how ineffective signs really are on society. Same goes for Halloween Haunt. It seems like people either don't see them, don't believe them, or ignore them. Why does the phrase, "Don't tase me, bro!!" come to mind? ha ha
  14. I listen to very diversified music too. Heck, I drove 1,000 miles to New York City just to see Silverchair play at a small bar in the Bowry that was maybe 1/3 of the size of Bogarts. If you sift through my mess of CDs in my glovebox or even listen to my burt CDs, you'll find all sorts of country, rock, rap, jazz, blues, conemporary, gospel, etc etc etc. Does it mean that I didn't enjoy the show? Of course not. I can honestly say that with the exception of the Alice Cooper songs (sorry, childhood favorite) I wouldn't listen to a single one of them on my own. You're right, and they did. That's why the show started off the way it did, changed, then changed again. Just because you don't like the music that is played on the radio doesn't mean it's ruined per se. I do agree that there is a lot of garbage out there, but there is a lot of good stuff too. Don't forget that for every 1 person with the mentality of "I only like bands you've never heard of" there are probably 100,000 people who do genuinely enjoy the music that is played on the radio. They could make the same argument against your music saying that it's not on the radio because it's not good enough. It's just a matter of taste. Again -- I bring up the point that if you... and let's say 10 of the people around you didn't enjoy overhearing the show, there were likely 1,200 packed into the venue enjoying it. Personally, I thought Corn Stalkers was on the lame side, but it doesn't mean that I think they should shut it down because it inconvenienced my typical route around the park. When it comes down to it, everyone was warned that HH was for adults, they were warned that specifically Dead Awakening had certain content and there's really no argument about that. It is unfortunate that some people in line for CornStalkers had watch it despite the fact that they didn't want to, but that's purely circumstantial. Don't think I'm picking on you, that's not my intention. If I didn't respect your opinion, I wouldn't argue with you. Radio stations are out to make MONEY. Money comes from people purchasing ad space, ad space value comes from the amount of listeners, and listers ultimately dictate what music is played. There's a good reason why you hear the same songs on the radio -- that's what people are listening to. I assure you that even if someone launched a completely independent radio station, within months they wouldn't be playing the music *they* want to play. Again, it's a matter of taste. For all you Cincinnatians -- I don't particularly like the direction WEBN is going. I'm kind of tired of hearing Metallica every other song... but hey, if they quit doing that, less people would listen. Even with that station, back in the Jaycore (sp?) days, the format and music was very similar to what it is now under Clearchannel. Why not expand the argument into the news? Do you know how many TV channels Scripps-Howard owns? Heck what about CBS? NBC? FOX? ABC? They ultimately control the TV you watch. Want to throw down the 'cable TV card'? That adds maybe 3 or 4 more corporations. Not too much worse than radio if you think about it. The sad part is, there IS independent TV. You know those channels between like 6 and 15 on your tuner that either show random school programs or church services? That's all completely done by the public and its viewership is next to nothing. The only reason those channels are in existance is because of the tax break they create. The reason why I have so much to say is that I have done a lot of research into popular culture. Essentially what makes things "cool" in the eyes of the general public. If you want to put one person's name on having creative control over the popular culture of the US (and thus the world) it's a man named Sumner Redstone. If that name rings a bell it's becuase he used to own an amusement park in Mason until recently. He's the chairman of Viacom and in case you guys weren't paying attention to Tuned In a few years back, Viacom owns such channels as MTV, VH1, BET, CMT, and Nickelodeon as well as Paramount Pictures and a laundry list of other important and influential assets. With the exception of MAYBE the Disney Corporation, his company controls most of what people see as pop culture, all the way from young children to adults. You may remember Mrs. Gibson from a little show called Twstin' to the 60s. VERY talented.
  15. You're right, but winning a lawsuit isn't necessarily the only way to get revenge. This article shows it itself. Had the author admitted that he or she ignored warnings, it would have been one thing but they made a backlash in a very public manor making themselves the good guy and big bad GAm the bad guy.
  16. I really doubt that if they could prove that either they were never informed of the rule or that they were singled out that they could fight it. Of course Six Flags can do what they please on the property, but it's also a business and they are held to certain standards. I work for Best Buy and they get sued all the time over the return policy (as I'm sure every retailer does) despite the fact that it's on a big board behind customer service and also printed on the back of the receipts.
  17. And about you're one free visit -- go to the admissions window with your 08 pass to get your ticket.
  18. ^ I've gotta disagree with you on this one. If anything, the show glorified the suicide. Not saying they should take it out of the show or anything... suicide is absolutely horrific. My friends as well as my place of work were affected by something not unlike what was in the show, but again -- it's entertainment. I can't read into it more than what it's worth.
  19. The storyline for things like this are always open for interpretation. My take on it is that the girl was fatally injured in the car accident and the whole show was her mirage or vision before ultimately expiring. Percentage-wise, no more people walk out of DA than walked out of Twistin' to the 60s. It just seems like more because a lot more people are initially seeing Dead Awakening. Like I said before, the Showplace is kind of a 'come and go as you please' type of venue, so people showing up late for the show and walking out is very typical.
  20. I remember the ride op that year apologizing to people as they left. It was a constant, "Sorry guys... sorry... enjoy the rest of your night.. I'm sorry..." It was actually kind of funny, but yeah.. BAD bad video.
  21. Sit tight... that part of Kings Island is really only going to get better and better. I'm sorry they didn't like the Ice Show, but same argument goes for what I told Delirium_Guy about Hot Island.. the show went over VERY well. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised to see the hot sun of an endless summer again next year. I found a lot of the girls in the ice show attractive, but it doesn't mean that I sat there and made comments about them. In fact, a lot of the KIC members got to meet them at KIC day and they can tell you that they're very kind and interesting people. My point is, don't blame the spectacle on the spectators. Granted, the show is sexy, clearly they were going for that. It doesn't mean that when Kevin wrote it he intended for the lady to be insulted. The costumes for Endless Summer were every bit as revealing as the ones for Dead Awakening, but since it's typical of ice skating, no one seemed to care or notice. I don't want any of you to think that I don't respect or value your opinions, because I really do. I'm just trying to prove a point here. Going in this new direction they're walking a thin line between what some would call bad taste and what others would call progress. When in a situation like that, in someone's eyes, you will always fail. I have no doubt that a lot of people agree with the concerns that some of you are having, but I can assure you that the changes have been well-received and will likely continue. It comes down to understanding what that "adult content" warning means with Halloween Haunt (as opposed to what it did for FearFest). Some people may enjoy it, others may not. We can all agree that the vast majority of Halloween Haunt is innocent Halloween stuff that we've seen for years, so even if you want to avoid the adult themes, there is still a lot to do.

  23. I will agree to that. They have a hell of a show on their hands from what I've seen.....much better than anything that played at the Park this summer. Now, I did not see the ice show, but come on......the rest of the entertainment was a joke, especially the Island Rhythm or whatever it was in front of the Eiffel Tower. Sheesh. Still, certain things will not fly. Despite you saying the show has gone over well, there were apparently enough complaints to justify changing certain things. They may have changed them back (which I give them major kudos for), but they DID change them. I do wish the Park the best of luck with turning Haunt into something that does rival the best of the best. - Todd I'm sorry you didn't enjoy Hot Island Rhythms, but that also went over rather well. I mean, what more could you expect out of a stage in the middle of I-Street? It's not like they could really integrate theatrics into it. Wouldn't surprise me if that was back next year. It drew some serious crowds for the evening shows.
  24. I agree with you. The clientele that the park is attracting sure is a lot different than before I left Ohio. And I know what I am talking about...my job at KI puts me on the front line, and just this year I have noticed the public becoming more and more belligerent. It is not uncommon for me to get cussed at almost nightly now, and it gets old. Ryan, I respect you..but pull your head out of the sand. Go watch a porn flick and see the similarities between DA and that..I mean, bondage, grinding and dirty dancing have nothing to do with scaring people-there is a different place for that. I know this is what sells...maybe I am just from a different era. But if KI promotes that type of filth, the clientele that comes through the gate is going to reflect that. It's all about entertainment... if you take it for more than that, anything can be offensive. Actually, the show has gone over very well. One thing that you'll notice about conservatives and conservative cities is that it's not a matter of stomping out things that are risque', but rather there's a time and place for different things. Some may feel as though KI, under any and all circumstances, is NOT the proper place for a show like that, while others have been warned and take it for what it's worth. People have made comments about how it's not family-friendly, but I don't think that could have been an honest mistake considering all of the signage and warnings. Let me ask you this: why does it all have to be about the way the girl dresses? Why isn't anyone giving props to Kevin Brunck (who we will be hearing more from soon) for writing, producing, designing, conceptualizing, and choosing the soundtrack to the show? The fact that the show was written in-house is nothing short of amazing. Or let's talk about Adam Hayward, and how he was able to take a typically boring looking venue like the Showplace and transform it into an amazing rockshow-like feel with his incredible technical and lighting abilities, or the people who choreographed the show, or the endless list of talented performers who do the show every Friday and Saturday night five times. Personally, I'm not willing to look past all of that simply because the blond girl happens to wear something skimpy.
  25. If you go on the 21st, don't forget to stop by and meet the Cyclones!
