Looking at the Live Entertainment section on PKI.com, it only has School of Rock and Star Search listed... I guess that means the rumors are true and the International Showplace and Rivertown venue will sit vacant this year... what a shame.

Mission Impossible Stunt Spectacular
BoddaH1994 replied to Skippy's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I don't think the name change has much to do with the sale. I think it's more about neutrality. Kind of like, "I hated the movie Mission Impossible, so I'll probably hate their stunt show." as opposed to just calling it the Hollywood Stunt Show, which anyone can relate to. -
I guess this is what gets me. They want things the entire FAMILY can do together. Thats great, have no problems with that. However, there are many different types of families. Some with little kids, others with teenagers. They seem to consistantly be going after those with the young ones. Sure, they enjoy Italian Job.....but what about mom, dad and big brother or sister? I could care less if they build a coaster or not, knowing our luck it'll be a B&M Speed Coaster (snoozers). I think 2003 was a fantastic season and a model that they should stick with. The little ones could be entertained by Scooby Doo and the Haunted Castle, while the others could enjoy Delirium. It was the best of both worlds. I do agree that 2003 did make for a good model, however you can tell by the fact that Scooby is kind of sub part to one outsider's standards or another that the budget to make that attraction really great was really robbed by the fact that they had to put money into Delirium.

Todd does make a very good point. The past 5 or so years have been geared towards families while this one, while geared towards families, is aimed at the youngins.

The Japanese love American stocks... if a company buys it who's public, it'll have Japanese ties.

I was kind of bummed to see a lot of the trees cut down during the construction tour. Along the path, they had a ton of tree stumps still there... I really hope in the future PKI concentrates more on a greener park. Heck, they did it with the parking lot.

^ I agree, but don't forget that the rides are only going to be a portion of NU. I mean, CDBB only added 2 new attractions but they still improved that area 10 fold.
-
I like how almost every single flat ride in existance can be trailer mounted, yet you guys choose to attack PKI simply because these rides are for kids. Not every year can be a year for enthusiasts. Seriously, can the kids have their time? I'm sorry to say it, but PKI knows what they're doing. You guys are only a SMALL DEMOGRAPHIC and they need to do what is best for the most people. Tell you what, let's let the kids play with it and see how they criticize the "carnval attractions" and then decide how it is, rather than having grown men and women judge the whole thing before the rides are even vertical.

Actually, that does make some sense. The reason why people get sick on rides (or car sick for that matter) is because at some point, there's a discrepency between what the eyes see and what the body feels, and the confusion results in the body reacting by getting woosy. Some people are more prone to it than others, but ourside influences (like the film being out of sync with the seats) can cause it too.

Sometimes I come close between the 2nd loop and the start of the corkscrews. Is this where you're talking about?

I've never blacked out on IJ, but I do commonly black out on Face/Off.

SOB was closed early this year so that the carpenters could get working on Winterfest stuff. They retrack portions of it every year, as do they with every wooden coaster. There have been many rumors circulating about SOB getting new trains, or even taking a car off to decrease the load, but none have panned out to be trust, not at least up to this point. Some people have also speculated that SOB will get a tunnel, but that's all just rumors. A lot of those rumor's come from Gabriel's fly over photos in the gallery, which display part of the track with tarps over it. Although they look like tunnels, it's just to protect those particular areas of the track from harsh Cincinnati winter weather.

lol... Way to slow things down!!! What position did you apply for?

Troika is Huss's manufacturer name for the model of attraction that Shake, Rattle, & Roll at PKI is.

There are some very good reasons why PKI would have the prices where they are. Of course, this is all speculation. It is my understanding that PKI banks of return visitors. I've been told that as many as 1/3 of the visitors to PKI are season passholders. Now, season passholders make a certain average number of visits to the park per year. I'm not sure what that figure is, but it's definitely higher than non season passholders. So, why raise the price of season passes if they clearly want more of them out? Very simple. You'll notice that the individual price as part of a 4 pack is not much less than half of the price of an individual. Therefore, if someone wants a season pass, they'll be far more inclined to coax friend and family into getting a 4 pack with them. With that, that's 3 more additional passes that are in the hands of people who may not have purchased one initially, thus they are more inclined to visit the park several times during the season. That way, they'll be there buying food, playing games, and purchasing merchendise.. all season long. Now, the lower individual days passes... it's almost like it doesn't fit into the mix, and that's very true, but we're looking at a different market. They want people from out of town to consider PKI as a destination. These "unique visitors" would be very unlikely to purchase a pass if they live several hours away, but they could be turned on by lower admission prices. Unique visitors are probably a lot more likely to spend money within the park as well. All of this is backed up by the Gold Pass deals... why even offer that? Well, people who purchase Gold Passes early in the season (or in the previous season) are far more inclined to visit the park in the early season, therefore that's just more numbers to put under PKI's grand corperate belt. Feel free to argue my observations.

Notice that online tickets are only 34.99 now as well. I think that's 10 bucks off from last year.

They always have rehersals. I doubt you're guarenteed a spot every year. Last year, several members of the SoR cast were actually from a band who tried out as a unit.

We know for a fact that School of Rock will be rockin' the 2006 season. Also, we'll see the return of the Nickelodeon Celebration Parade which will return in the early season. Other than that, it's hard to say!
-
Please note that Maureen also said that the FoF attraction at PKI will be operating this season.

I remember going to the WAH as a field trip when I was in the 5th grade. It really doesn't fit with the theme that PKI has now, but I do think that it was a good way for PKI to promote the fact that kid were there to grow, learn, and have fun.

It's very likely that it will just be scrapped. But keep your eyes peeled, you may see it as a door prize at a future event!! That tower had a lot more too it than you guys thing. It was a strange coordination of the sound (rumbling) the pressure guage, as well as the final spray. Apparently it was a big project to keep it maintained, which is why it didn't work in the end.

Hey now, the PKIC staff took out the trash for her!

That's both true and not true. Of course, there is not set schedule as to what area will be receiving a new attraction or upgrade, but you can kind of read between the lines and make an educated guess. 2006: HBL 2005: Coney Mall 2004: Waterpark 2003: Action Zone 2002: Rivertown 2001: HBL/NC 2000: Action Zone 1999: Action Zone 1998: Waterworks 1997: Waterworks 1996: Coney Mall 1995: Nick Central (Splat City) 1994: Coney Mall 1993: Action Zone As you can see, there are a few double ups in there, but for the most part it seems as though they try to disburse crowds to different areas of the park each year. When it comes down to it, when an area's due, it's due. Personally, I'm guessing that We'll see another Coney Mall expansion in 2007. It seems as though the heart of Coney Mall hasn't seen a true upgrade in a very long time.

With the current program, would you be able to put the model in motion?

Some main points that she hit (notice that a lot of these rumors were started on here) Vortex is NOT sinking and will open this year. SOB will be open this season, but not necessarily on time. NU will look MUCH better than a carnival. The Beast is NOT going to Carowinds. The park is up for sale. PKI will be PKI still (under the Paramount name) for at least the 2006 season. Jeff Siebert was not the CEO of Paramount's Kings Island, and his departure does not mean that all progress will stop! FoF at PKI will be open this season, but the one at PKD's future remains a mystery!!
