  1. I'm confused. What do lights being off or on in stores have to do with a generator in the parking lot?
  2. Can DH define most? My family was there until 11:30 pm; I seen first hand what was and was not running, and cannot agree with his statement. Just cause power was restored does not mean the ride was running!! Or that each ride needed to be inspected by the same maintenance crew that was obviously already busy.... It is funny how what people "read" and "understand" are two different things, as "Power on" and "operating" are two seperate things.
  3. Actually, now that I think about it.... everyone on Monday appeared to be a season pass holder, and since I have a pass as well, I didn't notice the sign, but the people collecting money for parking never said anything. Why would they say anything and hold up the line of people entering the parking lot? The "rides down" signs are quite visible for everyone entering the park. Unless you are one of those people that ignore the signs in an airport, then get mad at a flight attendant because they say "Enjoy your trip to Yemen" after going through the safety procedures, but the flight is already on it's way and you are supposed to be going to Detroit.
  4. Where to start.... KI has much more than 10 rides, so even with the 5 that were unfortunately down, it certainly does not equal half as you stated. Funny how you can observe the smallest of things, yet, did not observe the rides down sign near the ticket booths.
  5. This is where people need to look at the big picture. I owned my business during the Great East Coast Outage of 2003. As a restaurant, I had to close my kitchen down due to health regulations (ventalation system inoperable, coolers inoperable, ice machines down, etc.). My computer system was also down, so there was no way for me to track money for what was being sold at what time & I would have had to keep the cash drawer open. The security cameras were down, as were the phone lines- so help was not as easily accessable as usual. I took the safest path- close the doors. Sure, people were ****ed, but what choices did I have? KI was in a similar situation. Communications were lacking, staff is (not to sound insulting) young & inexperienced to the point- many need to be led by the hand when thrown a curveball. Their first priority should be the guests' safety. Next is security. Then comes determination. I'm sure maintenance believed it would be a quick fix. That led to the decision of not allowing refunds and still allowing guests in the park. Unfortunately, they were wrong. But how many times have we all waited for something, just to find out we were wrong for waiting also?
  6. This entire situation is confusing... If the power goes out at your home, it is blamed on: the electric company, weather, bad drivers, etc. But if the power goes out at KI, it's KI's fault? Do the people deserve their money back? No. Just like a rainout in baseball; you don't get your money back, but, they will give you a free ticket for another day. If the power was out, there would be no way for GR to print out a ticket for another day. Even if the decision was made to give out refunds, the power was still out. Credit card machines were down (which most people use), so the cards were unable to be ran. There was no way cash could have been used as when the power went out, the drawers are to be locked and only opened by management to prevent thefts not only by guests, but by employees. Power outages are a no win situation for businesses. They cannot conduct normal business, they cannot predict when the outage is going to happen, they cannot predict when the power will be restored, it will be impossible to make the customers happy since there is no power and no way of reimbersing the customer and whatever decision they make- it will no doubt be wrong. In a sense, KI was powerless...
  7. No matter what decision KI made, they were going to be screwed.
  8. It's not only the new CF coasters that are red, or a shade of red: FH @ KI Magnum @ CP ID @ CP Mantis @CP SF @ Dorney TH @ MA SS @ Knott's SB @ Knott's Xcelerator @ Knott's MM @ VF Boomerang @ WoF Mamba @ WoF Patriot @ WoF And it wouldn't surprise me if a missed a couple...
  9. I would guess the reason why DB's color changes from yellow to beige is to give the appearance of an actual Diamondback snake. In this picture: http://www.outdooroddities.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/huge_Diamondback_rattlesnake_del_rio_texas.jpg it looks to me that the color is more vibrant near the head, and fades toward the tail.

I would assume something like this: http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_03415367000P?vName=Tools&cName=ElectriciansTools&Lighting&sName=Work%20Lights&sid=IDx20070921x00003a&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=03415367000P Lights like this are VERY bright, and easy to handle. I remember watching a Discovery or Travel Channel episode years ago on what a miantenance crew goes through to inspect a wooden coaster. They would use a hammer to hit the track and listen for certain sounds (i.e. deep sound=solid, short sound=loose). They also knew what problem areas had loose nuts and areas that need to be inspected closer than others. It was a very intresting show. Sorry I couldn't give you more info.

I absolutely applaud them. The industry I am in, the last thing I want to do is walk into someone else's set-up halfway through. Obviously, SoB is a much larger project, and those guys were really given an almost impossible task. Given your information and going back and looking at this (see below), it makes more sense. http://www.daytondai...ays-391708.html

^ I figured that is what you meant, I just didn't want to *assume* anything. And with the risk of sounding insulting (honestly, that is NOT my objective here): Was it the same crew that you referred to earlier that took over the initial construction after Paramount "fired" Roller Coaster Co. of Ohio? If you don't want to answer due to risking friendship/ inside information, I completely understand.

You don't think the tracking SoB has received was due to the roughness, but the usual wear-and-tear?
  15. http://www.4-traders...pcric-13407825/ Many have asked for it, and now it is here. Good things just take some time...
  16. Browntggrr replied to KIBOB's topic in Kings Island
Sure they do, in certain areas and increase with age. SoB has been re-tracked in it's brief 10 year history much more than the average wooden coaster.
  17. Browntggrr replied to KIBOB's topic in Kings Island
Almost every year, if not every year, large sections of the track were modified & re-tracked due to roughness. Extensive re-tracking in 2006 left SoB SBNO until Memorial Day. In 2000, the 15' transition to the loop. This constant modification left cranes near the loop for quite a bit of time. Extra padding added to the trains in 2003. New restraints in 2003. Removal of the loop. Removal of several support beams. Removal of last car on original trains in 2006. New trains in 2007. I'm sure there are things I left out as I came up with this list off the top of my head. I am also sure there many things done that we will never know about. EDIT: Or you can read Shaggy's post as he was much more defining than I was.

SFGAd I believe.... KK toppled TTD in height & speed.
  19. Browntggrr replied to KIBOB's topic in Kings Island
There are numerous wood coasters that are rough, yet still fun. Voyage is a great example, yet, HW is getting new trains- but for what reason? And still, those same coasters have not had the issues SoB has had. Perhaps "Oops this was a bad idea" needs to be realized. SoB has been modified numerous times with the hope that it could become the coaster it was supposed to be. To this date, none have worked. SD's $50 million price tag had nothing to do with the wheel issue, but because the ride sits in a MAJOR earthquake area. BTW, SD is in Japan, not China. SP fell victim to Arrow's normal roughness due to age. SP was also an immensely popular coaster in it's prime. Can the same be said of SoB? Yes, Intamin has had a TERRIBLE track record with their new designs, but within a few years: MF, TTD, WT, and Maverick have undergone modifications and each is operating with great success. SoB is 10 years old with the same issues with two different owners. Is it just bad luck? Again I will ask: What other coaster has the same reputation (i.e. injuries, roughness, modifications, cost) as SoB and still operates today?
  20. I'm sure someone will somehow blame Intamin...
  21. CF also saved FoF at KD from being moved to another park after the purchase in 2006. They had the opportunity of continuing Paramount's direction, yet, chose to put the money in and open the ride back up. Sure one ride has nothing to do with the other, but the point I am trying to make is: CF is spending money where it is needed most- i.e. reopening a closed ride. FD is still operating. Sure it needs a paint job, but, the ride is also not a big eyesore given it's location. Also- I highly doubt a concrete decision for SoB has been made. Given your theory, that decision is done and it is combined with a decision for FD. Given the timeline of SoB's issues, I seriously doubt FD's status has anything to do with SoB. And just because FD has not had a paint job puts it into the "neglect to maintain" catagory? Really?

May I suggest reading the whole post (this seems to be a problem area for you) as I see no statement of a "fact": Yes, SoB is a failure. What other coaster has the same reputation (i.e. injuries, roughness, modifications, cost) as SoB and still operates today?
  23. Browntggrr replied to KIBOB's topic in Kings Island
Actually, it wasn't "a comeback" at all, especially give the . But you can call it a lame attempt at humor, I have no problem with that. Yet, you did open the can of worms.... I already went through the "if it works" scenario. Perhaps you missed it. Here it is again: The percentage of another fix working is in the single digits. What is not in the single digits is the cost associated for fixing a ride that was not fun to begin with. I can relate with the disappointment with those you talked as I was disappointed back in 2000 the numerous times I went to the park only to find SoB down, and that was 10 years ago. And over those 10 years, the State of Ohio Dept. of Agriculture inspected SoB more than any ride. It is a magnificent ride to look at. Too bad the actual ride is not even close. After I finally rode it, the disappointment grew as I have never been on a ride that shook me up so bad that I actually needed a break. Sure, you can say that I can't handle a rough coaster, but as you can see from Mr. Scheid's comments, I am obviously not alone. I have also never called myself an SoB hater, just a realist. So please, don't put words in my mouth. The ride has been a failure from day 1. If it was successful at all, other parks would have jumped on the bandwagon as they all want to compete & 1-up each other. Don't you think it is strange no other park has been willing to even try to *resurrect* the "wooden looping coaster" idea?

Yeah. Jason Voorhees was resurrected in 'Friday the 13th pt. 6' and still went on killing unsuspecting teens at Camp Crystal Lake. I'm not sure CF wants to be in the same catagory as Tommy Jarvis.
