Article from Sunday 3/14 predicting river would crest on Wednesday 3/17: http://nky.cincinnati.com/article/AB/20100314/NEWS01/303140002/Rain+to+bring+river+flooding Lets's hope it will not get too bad.

Mantis at CP is an excellent example of this. Mantis ran 3 trains, but due to slow load/ unload time, always stacked trains. Now Mantis runs 2 trains, and still has the same throughput.

So are you saying the thousand people that were on the ride were the only people in the park? Because if not, there would be no way of knowing how many people did not go on the ride due to the elephant element. And yes, Enchanted Voyage did have a hill. And I never worked at the park! And I wasn't alive until 88, three years before it became Phantom Theater, and I didn't live in Cincinnati and had never been to KI until after it was Phantom Theater. I also seriously doubt there are many people that refuse to ride because of the elephant except during pre season and post season. On extremely hot days people love to ride it because it cools them off without getting them as wet as WWC or Congo Falls. "Extremely hot days" would be the key phrase. If the elephant was not spitting out water, people would be more likely to ride it on cooler days, mornings and evenings.

Vortex has lighting, and so does Racer. CP has lighting on many of their coasters due to their location on the midways, and, you can see all sides of the coasters from many locations in the park. KI does not have that luxury, as many of their coasters are somewhat secluded. I actually like having the coasters not lit up at KI. It gives the coasters a different "ride" at night. Not to mention the bugs all those lights attract at CP. The bugs being near the lake is bad enough, with the lights, it's worse. It is so bad that I will refuse a front seat ride at night.

So you quizzed the people standing outside the queue line that refused to ride due to the elephant? That is what I call a multi-tasking effort for a employee that obviously knows it all!

We should all hope it is like this ride. It is fantastic! It is MUCH different, and better, than SDatHC, the video does not do it justice. And if anyone has the opportunity, it is located on Clifton Hill in the "Canadian Midway". CM is much like a Dave and Busters I'll take that bet. Sure, kids love to get wet, but family memories last a lifetime. My kids would rather enjoy that particular ride with everyone and get then get soaked on AF. I don't see people that can intelligently argue that. The elephant took away from all family members enjoying the ride.

So just how bad are things at FUN?

It really sucks when a company has to eliminate things that many have been used to for years to save money. For instance, the company I work for has eliminated the annual summer family picnic for financial reasons. -
Nice pics! What kind of camera do you have? I particularly like this pic as it reminded me of that idiot that claimed it to be a safety issue.
-
Yeah, that's it. It is going to be REAL strange driving up the causeway and not seeing DD this year.
-
Not the KI skyline, but still a great pic. Notice anything missing?
-
Please tell me you are kidding. 5 questions is more than enough, especially when people are asking things like "Is Vortex sinking?" And for the "good" questions that were not answered, chances are those questions have already been answered a previous day. People just need to do a little leg work and read through them.

For 2010. Not for 2011 and beyond. Just like we did not see that much change when CF first took over.

Saw Alice, and Avatar yesterday. I really liked Alice in 3D, and the kids liked it as well- they were hardly scared. The 3D was FANTASTIC. Nice job Mr. Burton!

Very true! Ironically, that's exactly how I feel about Cedar Fair... It seems as if every park they come into contact with switches its entire marketing and promotional scheme to "We're a family park now / again!" And then they come along with Halloween Haunt, where no one and nothing is off limits... Doesn't really match their nearly universal claim of "we're not thrill parks, we're family amusement parks!" and it certainly doesn't match their often-toted promise that the park is back to the way it used to be before Paramount came along... As always, just sayin'! So you actually think that when a new company takes over, marketing and promotions are not overhauled? If a company was doing good, there would not be a reason to sell. When a company sells, it means that things needed to be changed. Now how you are tying HH into this is confusing. There maybe a couple instances where this did not happen, but thaose would be very few and far between. But you did bring up a good question: does an adult event that is a total of 21 days and is well publicized take away from the family theme of the park? As always, just askin'; and as always, not expecting a response.

I doubt it since the "new" trains were modified to fit SoB's track gauging.

The inevitable offseason - not so bad?

I have been to CP numerous times on opening day, only to ask myself why. It's cold, it's crowded, the rides are not operating efficiently due to a combination of the winter layoff and the cold, and it usually rains. And being that cold, with rain, feels like ice is piercing your skin on most of the rides that go fast. Also, the weather (like you mentioned). Rides at CP are shut down often due to wind and rain. It would be worse in the winter months. I like to use the "offseason" to hit the FL or CA parks. It works out well. -
Getting Kids Excited for Planet Snoopy... Ideas?

Parents really need to get their kids "pumped" for a visit to any park? My kids are "pumped" for any visit, to any park. Even parks that do not have "themed" kids areas. -
Cashless System Coming To Waldameer
Browntggrr replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Disney has been doing that for years, and, has been making money on it. Not just from the per cap spending side, but from interest from people that put money on the card. Disney ends up being just like a bank, except, you do not make any money on your "savings" account, they do. Not to mention the people that "forget" to get their money back- just like people that forget to use a gift card. -
At this point, the park may find it difficult to find a manufacturer/ engineer that would be willing to take on a project like modifing SoB and be willing to also take responsibility for modifing SoB. Given the numerous changes to the ride, and it's history over the last 10 years I certainly would not want my firm to touch it.

After the Chaos ride accident at MA, I'm not too sure CF would purchase another. Also, I believe that Chaos at CP is still for sale.

Cashless System Coming To Waldameer
Browntggrr replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Aside from the whole "spending more money with swiping" angle (which is really a no-brainer), I seriously hope it alleviates the lines purchasing tickets/ Ride-a-Ramas. When the main park of Waldameer would open, usually at 1:00pm, there would be more people standing in line waiting to purchase tickets/ Ride-a-Ramas than waiting in all the rides combined. The "old" system was really a joke. -
Geauga Lake Has No New Offers for Land
Browntggrr replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
GL (or SFWoA) was never competition for CP, KI, KW or anyone else. If it was, the park would have been, at least, moderately busy. But for $40 plus $8 for parking (as it was under SF), why spend that kind of money when you can spend a little bit more and go to CP? Sure, the park was busy a couple years after SF made all the additions, but attendance -unfortunately- steadily declined. -
Meh, names.... does it matter? Anything is better than Fairly Odd Coaster. Now if they would re-name SoB to Fairly Odd Coaster, that would fit.
