Many businesses will have their 4th of July holiday "vacation day" on Friday, July 2nd and not Monday the 5th. I can see why the park would not be open late on a Sunday when many people will have to be at work on Monday morning. But that still begs the question of why not have the park open till midnight on the 2nd.

And you'll never guess what other coaster is ranked rather close to Grizzly. Rather consistantly as well.... http://www.ushsho.com/woodpoll16yeartable2009.htm

Well it depends what you mean. Do you mean the station? They could use that station for another ride (i.e. Vortex's station was origionally Bat's station.) Do you mean taking out the lower track sections like the rose bowl first? I can see that as a real possibility. But as with any construction project, you start from the bottom up, the opposite would be true for a deconstruction project. The main part of the lift hill would have to be taken down from the top down.

Anyone have room for one of these in their backyard?

And the new owners will not have to concentrate on adding a $25 million coaster, a relocated & repainted flying coaster, a refurbished children's area, re-naming rides, de-theming rides themed to poor movies, or dealing with poor entertainment shows. If I were the new owner, a fresh coat of paint and some unused buildings would be easy to deal with.

Oh, really? When you bought your first house, did you have it furnished completely? Did you paint every wall? Did you decorate every wall? Chances are, no. We could not expect CF, or any other company, to come in a fix every problem Paramount let go in such a short time. I, like yourself, remember KI pre-Paramount. It was BGE-esque. It would be unfair to expect CF to clean up in a couple off seasons what took Paramount to dirty in over a decade. If CF had ingnored the park, I would agree with you. But the park looked better in 2009 than it has in almost 10 years- Even with a limited budget in a tight economy. Rome was not built in a day...

I would say relocating a good coaster would be feasible. But if the coaster is just so-so, then no, it would not be. The Phoenix at Knobels used to be at Playland Park in San Antonio, TX. It supposedly had a $1.5 million price tag for the whole move back in 1985.

I remember Paramount having the same type of music as CF. But even with the choice of music, it is nice, and usually cooler, to sir near the fountain on a hot July day. Why sit when you can ride! I like to sit back, take a break, have a frosty beverage, and "people watch". It is very funny on what people will actually do when they don't think eyes are on them.
-
No matter what happens, I hope that the park continues to improve as it has over the past couple years. It was starting to remind me of KI pre-Paramount.

At least then I can wear a helmet & pads!

You mean when the trim breaks were replaced with magnetic trims? EDIT: Even though the topic is closed, it has a list of previous Beast trim discussions: http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=15137

When SoB re-opened without the loop and had new trains it was practically a new ride. Comparing a ride that is, for all practical purposes, a new ride vs. a ride that has been around for over 25 years IMO is uncomparable.
-
If you were not referring to popularity & line length, then I misunderstood. Can you explain what you mean by line length that does not refer to popularity? I also find it difficult to compare Beast & SoB when it comes down to line length. Beast has been around since 1979 and has had excellent uptime vs. SoB which has been around since 2000 and has had (rough number) about 60% uptime during that time. The opportunities to ride Beast vastly outweigh SoB.
-
The Bat Isn't that what International Street, especially the fountain, are for?
-
^Yes, SoB was a major attraction in the park, but how long a line is does not determine how popular a ride is. Blocking, train capacity, dispatch times, single riders, time of day, ride placement, handicap riders, and uptime (and other contributing factors) will result in line length. Yes, people will run to the biggest ride near the park entrance when the park opens. This happens at many parks (i.e. Raptor @ CP, Apollo's Chariot @ BGE etc.) Think about why SoB is so mysterious. The loop removal, new trains, constant track modifications, constant issues, constant downtime, constant media attention. The ride has been a mystery since day one- you never know what you are gonna get. And consider the amount of downtime SoB has had since 2000. There have been many people that have not had the opportunity to actually ride SoB as they are only able to get to KI once a year.
-
And, since SoB's uptime has been poor at best, people were always wondering if the issues were fixed and would try it out when the opportunity presented itself. I've been waiting in that line hoping for a different ride. Needless to say, I couldn't remember my name after the ride let alone how the ride actually was.
-
I am not trying to disagree with you, but, I have a difficult time believing that any ride, especially one that has had as much downtime as SoB, would have that much of a negative effect on season pass sales. KI was a great park before SoB, and it will continue to be a great park if a decision to remove it is made.
-
well not exactly, depending on what all is open ERT can sometimes send the park into the red with the costs of paying operators, running rides, keeping park services working later, etc. It just all depends. Do you happen to have the accounting books on that? It would make for some intresting reading.
-
Why are people obsessed with ride removal?
-
I don't have the accounting books in front of me, so I really have no idea on how much an ERT event is, or how much it costs the park to host a ERT event. But what I have seen is that a ERT event is usually a paid event, and the money the park receives is more than they would make by being closed.

Uh, good thing I said usually...

The food pricing is terrible. But KI, by far, is not alone. As I have mentioned before, being a Browns season ticket holder the food beverage prices are crazy expensive at the stadium. I did call to complain/ question the Browns about the pricing, and I was startled by the response. They simply said that the prices are looked at every year. The cost is always looked at every year. Not only the cost of the food itself, but the cost of staffing, training, licensing, disposal, and most importantly, cleaning. The more people that eat and use the facilities, the more it costs any company. It really does s^(k, but it is what it is.
