  1. Why do some expect perfection? I am happy with a delay of a ride, than not having it at all.
  2. ^ July 2000, front seat. It was the first ride I thought should have Aleve as a sponsor.
  3. http://www.conwaygreene.com/aurora/lpext.dll/Aurora/68?fn=document-frame.htm&f=templates&2.0 I have scanned through this numerous times, and still cannot find a height ordinance for commercial structures. But it also is not the easiest read either.
  4. From an exact numbers standpoint, you are correct, CP's system is flawed. But they are not looking for exact numbers. They are looking for approximations and trends and use the information concerning ridership (time of day, what days are busier etc.), maintenance, and staffing.
  5. I have heard those same rumblings, but have not seen any other *proof* to back up those comments (i.e. park official comment, newspaper article etc.) Although, I do have a difficult time believing that the Aurora government would not allow special considerations if asked.
  6. ^ Way to many "what if's". We could go on for years about the different scerarios of what "could have been". Would SW still be in Ohio? Perhaps. There was no indication that SW was not doing well, or, were looking to sell prior to the SF purchase. If SF would have put in a half-hearted effort into their grand expansion, I would feel different. It was depressing to see what became of SW after SF took over. Planning has not been a strong suit for SF. Did they intend for it to happen? No. But it did....
  7. After witnessing what SF did to GL and SW, I shutter to think what they would do with KI (or any other park that I enjoy). But I will give them credit where it is due. SFGad is a great park.
  8. La Ronde is competition. It's one of the other major parks. Cedar Point is a 4.5 hour drive for me. CP is KI competition. HW is a 5 hour drive for me and is also KI competition. Plus La Ronde is adding a new coaster for 2010. In my opinion a 6 hour drive isn't that bad. La Ronde also has a "okay" set of rides. The same goes for Canada's Wonderland. Point is I don't think it's fair to count La Ronde out of the game. If you consider LaRonde competition for CW, than every park in the North America is in competition with each other as you can take a quick 5 hour flight from Cincy to LA and enjoy SFMM, KBF, or Disney's parks.
  9. While your comment is fair, that was not the point in the discussion or my quote. If a rider has been on other coasters, then rides SoB and has issues, how can it be assumed that the rider ignored a doctor/ warning signs about pre-existing injuries? That being said, will anyone here ever believe that a person was actually injured at KI under any circumstances other than a broken sternum? If a guest came off a ride complaining of an injury; some will say that it is a set-up and the person was already injured prior to riding. -or- A rider has an injury, believes it to be a minor problem, and the next day the injury becomes a major problem; some will say the guest should have notified the park at the time of the injury. -or- Since some are in denial and do not believe that any ride could have caused the injury, keep all the rides operating since the injury cannot be pin pointed. Mind you, prior to SoB, KI had a VERY good track record when it comes down to injuries, and have always gone above and beyond for inspections when similar rides at other parks have had issues.
  10. An injury is not a complaint. And how can you possibly make the statement that just because a person was injured on SoB, they ignored a doctor and/ or warning signs about a prexisting injury? SoB is much rougher than other coasters. If a person has been on numerous coasters, and had no problems, than rides SoB and has issues due to a unknown prexisting condition it is the riders fault? This horse has been dead since July '09. It is about time some people stop beating it, and take SoB for what it is.
  11. The weather and CP being located between Cleveland and Detroit and not, comparitively speaking, near a major city has a lot to do with it. Take a look at CW that attracted more visitors than CP and KI by 100,000+, and is located near Toronto. That is, if those numbers are accurate.
  12. Thanks for volunteering your time to help out!
  13. ^ I saw that quote and just chuckled. Leave it to a mayor to say something rather questionable like that.
  14. I really hope that is just a bad picture of her. At first, I thought it was Pugsly from Addams Family. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pugsley_Addams
  15. I believe there are two big reasons. At one time TG was a great, and immensely popular, ride. This modification to a ride that is almost 20 years old will spark intrest by those who have not rode it in quite some time due to how rough it is. SF was able to find someone that is willing to do the work.
  16. There will be more "foreign" visitors to CP than KI. CP is located between the 11th & 41st (Detroit & Cleveland respectivly) most populated cities in the US, whereas KI is located near the 57th and 152nd (Cincy & Dayton). CP is a "melting pot" compared to KI's "hometown" feel. CP also needs to have the housing facilities as Sandusky cannot support CP's summertime employment needs.
  17. You first mentioned familes and thrill seekers here: And than, somehow, you started comparing individual rides between CP and KI. It makes no sense. Aside from that, both KI and CP go after the same audience, that being everyone. They always have, and they always will. Trying to make the parks complete opposites would be bad business. Would you suggest that a paticular movie theater only show romance movies and another theater down the street only show action movies? Obviously, that would be stupid. The parks have to cater to all guests. Somehow enthusiasts have this belief that most people will travel all over the country/ World to visit a park. When in all reality, people that travel to a park like CP, KI, Hershey, Kennywood etc. come from a (rough guess) 200 mile radius which happens to be near a well populated city. Enthusiasts will travel all over, but those same enthusiasts are a very small percentage of a park's attendance. Just because one park wins Golden Ticket awards for best park does not mean they are primarily a thrill seekers park. The same goes for a park that has won a Golden Ticket 9 years running for best kids area- winning does not make that park a family only park.
  18. You lost me. How did we go from discussing bringing in families and thrill seekers to comparing individual rides?
  19. TG was one of the best wooden coasters and deserves the investment. Can the same be said for SoB? Onto the other discussion... No. KI has not marketed to families, and CP has not marketed to thrill seekers. They have both marketed to all guests. CP has not added just coasters to keep up with their 12 year run at the Golden Tickets, and KI has not just added to Nick Central/ U just to keep their 9 year run going as well. CP has three seperate kid's areas (how many parks can say that?), and has renovated them numerous times. CP also caters to families with: great shows for all family members, sandy shores of Lake Erie, and on-site hotels and restaurants. KI added 4 coasters and three major thrill rides from 1996 to 2006. Most of those thrill rides at their inception were cutting edge.
  20. That is true, those costs are sunk costs. While the total costs for SoB are gone, it is still a factor. Banks and insurance companies certainly care how much has been spent, and Greg Scheid cares as well, or he would not have mentioned the $30 million already spent. http://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/blog/2010/03/kings_island_hopeful_new_owner_or_not.html
  21. Beast lake was virtually stagnant. The bugs, smell, and litter were terrible in the last few years the lake was there. Early on, the water themeing next to Beast's station worked and was pretty neat. I'm not sure why it was not always on, but I'm sure it had to do with the pump clogging up with crap people dropped/ threw in the lake
  22. If SoB is taken down, and a new ride is built in it's place, I highly doubt the "Beast" name will be used.
  23. In 1979 (the earliest I can remember), my family brought food & drink to the parks in coolers. We simply would meet back at the car and have lunch & snacks. Dinner at KI was at IR if we had the extra cash, if not, dinner would be sandwiches as well. There is absolutely nothing wrong with bringing food to the park. And for most parks, not only does bringing food make economical sense, the quality is better too!
  24. Sounds like the result of a 420 day.
  25. *shakes head* Dang! If I would only have thought of that!
