I am a big fan of flume rides. When WWC at CP was removed, I was disappointed. When KCKC was removed, I was disappointed. When I rode Maverick for the first time, I loved the ride and kept talking about it. When I rode TR;TR for the first time, I talked about how disappointing it was to lose KCKC.

Also, sit in 1-1 on the left side. Coasting through the finale of ID with the mist operating in mid-day is quite refreshing!

Checking Steel Coaster Track
Browntggrr replied to Hank's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I had the privilege of meeting one of CP's maintenance crew in downtown Sandusky and asked him that very question. He didn't go into exotic detail, but the conversation was very informative. They do not check steel track the same way wood track is inspected on a daily basis. They will check the lifts and MCBR of steel coasters due to the moving parts, and the steel track & supports are checked in great detail before the season starts using JLG's and cranes. Maintenance crews will ride the steel coasters at night & early in the morning multiple times to "feel" and "listen" for issues. If something does not feel right or sound right, they will go into a more detailed investigation. They will check known trouble spots more closely (i.e. WT's add-on supports MF's elevator lift, TTD's launch track & Magnum's pretzel- for sinking ) and will check the support column bolts from time to time. -
Why? Is there something you would like to add to the Arrow discussion? If not, sit back, and enjoy the ride. Unfortunately, topics to tend to go in many directions. Yet when that happens, there is the possibility that other valuable information can be gained by reading the intresting discussion- as this has been. If we played by the black and white rules, there are many things we may never learn.

i'm not 100% sure that's correct, the way i understood the concept for the park now known as epcot (from a show from '06 talking about disney world) was this: http://www.justdisney.com/Features/walts_epcot/index.shtml

ATLANTA: Six Flags White Water FIRE

Apparently the park still had power and vouchers were able to be printed out. Good move SFWW. -
Uh- I honestly don't believe you have actually read what I wrote. Back in the 70's & 80's KI was considered a theme park due to it's heavily themed areas while the rides were loosely themed. When Paramount took over, they concentrated more on themeing rides then themeing areas. So now, almost 40 years later, is a theme park considered a theme park for the themed rides or themed areas?
-
Yes, it is. What about EPCOT? It was an idea Walt Disney had for two theme parks in one: http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/parks/epcot/ But again, Disney and Universal are in their own class and should not be compared to a seasonal park- themed or not.
-
KI was certainly a theme park back in the 70's & 80's as it had themed areas. It seems to me, that at one time, themed areas made a theme park- a theme park. Now it seems that themed areas are not necessary, but for a park to call itself "themed" it has to have themed rides.
-
KI, and almost every other park out there, cannot be compared to Disney. It is a unfair comparison on many different levels. CP also had themed areas, and if Beast is to be considered a themed ride, CP has numerous themed rides on the same level. Now I do ask, how do you know that the designers would be shocked or ashamed at what KI is today? I would think they would be very happy that the park is still very popular and continues to not only improve itself but re-invent itself as well.

Wow... where to start.... You are basing an opinion off of second hand information. -and- It is REALLY BAD information. You should really confirm your sources before using their knowledge and opinion as your own. Yet your "opinion" does raise some questions: Why does a coaster have to be intense to be good? Why does a coaster have to be long to be good?

Umm, I did. See post # 38, or three posts up.

Richard Kinzel: Market Will Thaw
Browntggrr replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
This begs the question, are KI and CP in competition with each other? Each is located almost 200 miles apart (4 hours) at different ends of the state. Each had it's own target audience (CP has Cleveland & Detroit; KI has Cincy & Dayton- Columbus is somewhat in the middle). And even if each is in competition, they have been from 1972 when KI first opened. I have not seen the competition as anything but healthy for the consumer- both family and thrill seeker. -

How is it when a newspaper article comes out, it is easy to see the holes where the writer is inexperienced when it comes down to his/ her knowledge of rides & parks and as enthusiasts, we blame the writer. But when it is Mr. Kinzel is quoted, he is the one that had to screw up the quote, it could not have been the writer. Sigh -
Intresting that you use "suspended coasters" in the plural sense, yet have only been on one. Bat was fantastic and BBW was a very good coaster. FD is decent, as is Vortex at CW, and ID is a nice leisurely stroll through the woods.

ATLANTA: Six Flags White Water FIRE
Browntggrr replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Blame it on the heat wave. Much like in the winter when it is extremely cold outside- people use space heaters; when it gets this hot outside, motors tend to overheat causing electrical fires. This is why it is always a good idea to keep airflow & filters clean to any motor. Not only will a blocked airway make the motor work overtime bumping your electric bill to kingdom come- it is a fire hazard. -
What suspended coasters have you been on?

Cedar Point: Simply The Best...

Nice find! -
Intresting that Steel Phantom made the list over Drachen Fire at BGW. I am also not too sure if you can even consider X or SP a "failure" as each ride still stands today- just modified.

A Quick Question about the Hotel Breakers at Cedar Point
Browntggrr replied to BeastForever's topic in Trip Reports
The Concierge floor (10th floor) has a continental breakfast- but you have to be on that floor. TGI Fridays also serves a good breakfast. There is also a bagel/ donut/ muffin shop in Breakers. -

Plan B? I would have figured they would have already been through all Plans A through Z and have started on the double letter plans like "Plan BB". But Plan: Bulldoze, Big crane, Blast it to kingdom come, Burn it down, Bring the rain, all have intresting rings to them. Yet, if the decision is to repair it yet again, it could be plan Bankruptcy. -
So tlvtr, how many bases have you rounded on a coaster?

Oh. Forget the Jager and beer chaser. Stick with Yoohoo and CoCo Puffs!
