  1. My family has access to a pool at anytime. So, unfortunately, the thrill of being in a pool is the "norm". Thanks for thinking of us though!
  2. Intresting. So KI removed two rides, your mom has not been back since- but it didn't leave a bad taste in your mouth. So why has she not been back? Sure KI has removed rides. I can only see two of those rides you referred from Wiki that did not have the same "uncomfortable" feeling you referred to due to their size, that were not replaced with other family type rides.
  3. ^ Sorry but, this makes no sense. You can ride it and not get wet, until the last drop? Then you get wet? If you sit in the front, you get soaked. If you sit toward the back- not so much. And how wet you get also depends on who is using the water cannons & their timing. EDIT- Also see Jasper above
  4. You really took all those off hand hints to heart?
  5. Now I see what the issue is. Since the park has taken out a couple rides that meant alot to your family, it has left a bad taste in your mouth. There is nothing wrong with that. Not including BB, KI has 46 rides. 13 of those rides are considered thrill rides and 33 are considered family rides. Now in those family rides, 6 are considered high thrill or agressive thrill. That still leaves 27 family rides. http://www.visitkingsisland.com/public/park/rides/height_guide.cfm It is unfortunate your mother does not enjoy most of KI's rides, but let's face it, KI is not for everybody. If she is not happy with KI's lineup & attractions, I really can't think of another place she would be better off as she will face the same issues.
  6. The safety features, such as lap bars, are engineered to keep people from falling out of a ride. For those lap bars to be effective, they are to be put in such a position consistant with many people's body parts (i.e. arms, chest, etc.). With a smaller person, the position of the body to the lap bar is different and thus less effective. The same goes for children and car seats. A seatbelt for an adult goes across their chest and waist. For smaller children not in a booster seat, the belt will go across their neck and legs.
  7. Well then you may want to clarify yourself as to what you point is. As you can see, you clearly mentioned the start of the queue in reference to the ride location. But if you meant a larger queue sign, then no, KI does not need a bigger sign. People walk by signs, all the time, ignoring them. Even with the largest of signs pointing a direction in front of them, people will still have no clue which way to go.
  8. I am going to take an educated guess that you do not have kids, so you really don't know what screams family at all. When my kids were younger, I didn't care about riding the big rides, I wanted to be with my kids- even if it was not on the ride with them. Watching their face on a ride is priceless, and worth all the money spent. Also as a parent, you learn what rides you can accompany your kids on real quick, it does not need to be spelled out in great detail, and along with that, a majority of the rides are parent/ child friendly. Where do you possibly get the notion that there are not many rides for a parent & child combo at KI? What does need to be spelled out is the Parent Swap Program. Each park had it's own version, with different rules. It is difficult to keep up with the different policies- especially when the some of the ride operators are unaware of the program.
  9. ^ Where else could you possibly start the queue?
  10. It's not SF's fault that people are idiots. This is, unfortunately, nature of The Beast.
  11. No, as I am actually having a thrilling and satisfying day. And you?
  12. Old Mister Kinzel had troubles of his own He had a wooden coaster which wouldn't leave his park he called his own; He tried and he tried to give the coaster away, He gave it to a man goin' far, far away. But the coaster came back the very next year, The coaster came back, we thought it was a goner But the coaster came back; it just couldn't stay away. Away, away, yea, yea, yea The man around the corner swore he'd kill the coaster on sight, He loaded up his shotgun with nails and dynamite; He waited and he waited for the coaster to come around, Ninety seven pieces of the man is all they found. But the coaster came back the very next year, The coaster came back, we thought it was a goner But the coaster came back; it just couldn't stay away. Away, away, yea, yea, yea He gave a torch to a little boy named Brown with a dollar note, Told him for to take it up with gas and wanted to see the smoke They tied sparklers around its neck, that SoB was sure to burn up Now they drag the ashes for Brown, all they found was his cup. But the coaster came back the very next year, The coaster came back, we thought it was a goner But the coaster came back; it just couldn't stay away. Away, away, yea, yea, yea He gave a bomb to a man going up in a balloon, He told him to blow that SoB to the moon; The balloon came down about ninety miles away, Where he is now, well I dare not say. But the coaster came back the very next year, The coaster came back, we thought it was a goner But the coaster came back; it just couldn't stay away. Away, away, yea, yea, yea They tried to fix it with a man way out West, Told him for to fix it like the one he loved the best; First the train hit the curve, then it jumped the rail, Not a soul was left behind to tell the gruesome tale. But the coaster came back the very next year, The coaster came back, we thought it was a goner But the coaster came back; it just couldn't stay away. Away, away, yea, yea, yea The coaster, it had some company one night out in the yard, Someone threw a boot-jack, and they threw it mighty hard; It caught the coaster near the MCBR, she thought it spilt a beam, When back came a train and the guests with no air stream But the coaster came back the very next year, The coaster came back, we thought it was a goner But the coaster came back; it just couldn't stay away. Away, away, yea, yea, yea On a telegraph wire, Kinzel's men were sitting in a bunch, The coaster was feeling hungry, thought she'd like 'em for a lunch; Climbing softly up the lift, and when she reached the top, Put her foot upon the electric wire, which tied their stomachs in a knot. But the coaster came back the very next year, The coaster came back, we thought it was a goner But the coaster came back; it just couldn't stay away. Away, away, yea, yea, yea The coaster was a predecessor, a daddy of its own, With five little trains that moved like a cyclone; Blew all the coasters all away and tossed the guests around, The air was full of guests, and not a one was ever found. But the coaster came back the very next year, The coaster came back, we thought it was a goner But the coaster came back; it just couldn't stay away. Away, away, yea, yea, yea The atom bomb fell just the other day, The H-Bomb fell in the very same way; Bat went, Drachen went, and then the King Cobra The human race was finished without a chance to pray. But the coaster came back the very next year, The coaster came back, we thought it was a goner But the coaster came back; it just couldn't stay away. Away, away, yea, yea, yea
  13. ^ "Heads up, arms down, and hold on tight!" You should try it again!
  14. ^ So true. Here in Erie, PA we have Waldameer Park. It doesn't have the big, flashy rides (although Ravine Flyer II is fantastic) for the "bigger" kids, but it does have decent rides for all ages. It has the old-time park feel to it with a combination of smells: cotton candy, candy apple, and popcorn. Only a small handful of parks have the same "feel" (i.e. Kennywood, Hershey, old KI, Knoebels etc.) The atmosphere of all those parks make up for rides any day.
  15. Added bold for emphasis: That is good since CP has: many other things to offer, and many other people to concern themselves than an enthusiast hinging their honored return on only 3 coaster manufacturers. Have a nice day!
  16. I'm sure the ride is safe, but, if you do not feel that the height restriction is acceptable, do not let her ride it. Different ride manufacturers have their own height restrictions as do different states. The operator of the ride has to follow those rules. If they didn't, the resulting litigation if a accident occurred could be business threatening.
  17. So if CP decided to relocate Big Dipper from GL, or bring back Cyclone you would not go back to CP next year? So adding rides like Behemoth, DB, I-305, and Intimidator at other CF parks over the past 2 years is NOT speading it out?
  18. ^Exactly what is a "modern" wood coaster?
  19. I am a big fan of flume rides. When WWC at CP was removed, I was disappointed. When KCKC was removed, I was disappointed. When I rode Maverick for the first time, I loved the ride and kept talking about it. When I rode TR;TR for the first time, I talked about how disappointing it was to lose KCKC.
  20. Also, sit in 1-1 on the left side. Coasting through the finale of ID with the mist operating in mid-day is quite refreshing!
  21. I had the privilege of meeting one of CP's maintenance crew in downtown Sandusky and asked him that very question. He didn't go into exotic detail, but the conversation was very informative. They do not check steel track the same way wood track is inspected on a daily basis. They will check the lifts and MCBR of steel coasters due to the moving parts, and the steel track & supports are checked in great detail before the season starts using JLG's and cranes. Maintenance crews will ride the steel coasters at night & early in the morning multiple times to "feel" and "listen" for issues. If something does not feel right or sound right, they will go into a more detailed investigation. They will check known trouble spots more closely (i.e. WT's add-on supports MF's elevator lift, TTD's launch track & Magnum's pretzel- for sinking ) and will check the support column bolts from time to time.
  22. Why? Is there something you would like to add to the Arrow discussion? If not, sit back, and enjoy the ride. Unfortunately, topics to tend to go in many directions. Yet when that happens, there is the possibility that other valuable information can be gained by reading the intresting discussion- as this has been. If we played by the black and white rules, there are many things we may never learn.
  23. i'm not 100% sure that's correct, the way i understood the concept for the park now known as epcot (from a show from '06 talking about disney world) was this: http://www.justdisney.com/Features/walts_epcot/index.shtml
