  1. New pic of StR operating: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/photo.php?pid=42677324&o=all&op=1&view=all&subj=10625691462&aid=-1&id=20923183
  2. CP removed the Frontier Lift in 1985 for ID that was built in 1987. You can still see the load/ unload station near the entrance of SRF & Skyhawk. The building is currently bathrooms and storage, but you can still see remnants of the old lift at the rear of the building. Here is a picture of the old Frontier Lift load/ unload station courtesy of our friends at PointBuzz. http://pointbuzz.com/photos/Photo.aspx?id=3014
  3. I believe that both parks are about 364 acres. The difference between the two is that CP sits on a long peninsula whereas KI went with the wagon-wheel configuration. So from one end to the other CP will be larger.
  4. As with most people, myself included, we tend to look at certain things through rose-colored glasses. This is a KI site, so it is understood that a vast majority of the people will be KI fans no matter what- just like I am a Browns fan no matter what. I will bash the $hitsburgh Cheaters till I'm blue in the face, just like some will never be happy with CP. It's just the way that it is. CF knows they can't please everybody- and even attempting that would be foolish as they would be chasing their tails. They need to keep the majority happy. As enthusiasts, many may not always understand that. I was lucky enough to visit many parks at a young age. That gave me a wide view of different parks & the rides they have/ operate etc. Many other people have only visited a small handful of parks leaving them a small comparison. Such a small comparison often leads to the "KI vs. CP" or "Paramount vs. CF" discussion. Can any of those truely be compared? Back on topic... STR could have already been given a conditional license to operate. There have been boats operating (although the wrong boats) that could test the safety features (photo eyes, prox switches, e-stops, anti-roll backs etc.). It could be that the only thing stopping the approval of the full-operating green light is the actual operation of all the boats together, which can take place at night (as the approval operation often does) to get in the necessary operational hours the state is looking for. Or it could also be that the Register is making a mountian out of a molehill to sell more papers.... EDIT- There have been confirmed reports that STR has been testing with CP employees on the boat. I would have to say that the ride has been approved for operation, but, the official papers are not in CP's hands.
  5. ...and don't forget the Salt Water Taffy on the way out of the park!
  6. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: It is too bad more people did not know KI pre-Paramount. It truely was one of the best, if not the best, seasonal parks back then.
  7. Good for those guests going this weekend! Although, I would anticipate the line to be TERRIBLY long due to the hot & humid weather we have been getting here on the shores of Lake Erie, and, given that this would be STR's actual opening weekend, I would also anticipate various breakdowns.
  8. Universal goes ape for 3D Kong New attraction at Hollywood park opens July 1 http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118020990.html?categoryid=13&cs=1 Anyone heading out West? This attraction sonds like a can't miss!
  9. CP will have test seats at MF, TTD, and Maverick. I don't see why there would be an issue with any of the other rides. Now the kicker is, just because a person can fit in the test seat, does not necessarily mean they will still be able to ride. As Terp mentioned, the seatbelt lengths are known to vary, more on MF than any other ride. If the test seat is a struggle, I suggest to watch the people getting off the train at the exit station and look for others' that appear to be close to your wife's figure, and try to get that seat. I would also wait for your wife to get in the seat herself and get buckled up before you do- CP employees will not struggle to buckle a person in, but that does not mean you can't.
  10. There is no fine line between thrifty and cheap. It is one or the other. Thrifty is someone that cuts coupons and will compare prices to get the best bargin. Sly is someone that can get a 20oz. drink into a park. Cheap is someone that orders a cup of hot water in a restaurant- because they brought their own tea bag.

  12. I'm used to a blind squirrel finding a nut, but I'll take a blind pig finding a truffle..
  13. You bring your own drinks into the park? Not always. When our kids were still in strollers, it was easy to bring drinks (and food) in the park that were stashed in the underneath carrier. Often times now, my wife will stick a drink in her purse. When the drink is gone, we refill the bottle with water.
  14. Even where I work, a 16 oz. soda is $1.35, yet I can purchase a 6 pack of 20 oz bottles for $2.50 at Wal-Mart. Needless to say, I treat work like going to a park- I bring my own drink.
  15. Be sure to have a plan of attack for rides as you don't want to walk back and forth across CP all day. Not only will you spend countless hours walking in circles, you will be dead tired come 8:00pm. I suggest using the resort shuttles as well. For instance, you can request a shuttle to go from HB to the front gate which will save a ton of time & energy.
  16. ^ Let's not forget that it is not just KI that has over-priced drinks, but the majority of family venues as well (i.e. movie theaters, sporting events, zoos, resorts etc.) On another note: I recently worked a Wine Festival in York, PA for a friend that owns a local winery. The event staff for the grounds were not going to allow me, working as a vendor (not selling water-just pouring wine), access to the grounds because I was carrying two cases of water that were purchased at a local Wal-Mart for $3.50/ case. They wanted to charge the vendors $10.00/ case. This water was just for the workers at the tent, not for the paying guests.
  17. The signs request that an answer be given to a facilitator, so it appears to be geared for a private KI contest for non-enthusiasts. Perhaps this is for the numerous corporation picnics KI has this time of year? Although, we all missed the CEO question sign next to customer relations.
  18. Ok, you have much more to give, yet won't. Why bother responding at all?
  19. He is absolutely correct. When I owned/ operated my business, I had to invest countless dollars to keep the ice machines operating. And it always happened, when my business was at it's busiest, and when it was very hot and humid, is when the ice machine would crap out. It was only after I purchased a second ice machine that both machines ran consistantly.
  20. It truely is unfortunate, and not surprising, that you have nothing more to give to your open-ended statements. Your opinion as to why Mr. Kinzel should retire, the issue as to why an individual should retire, and what type of person should step in as CEO of Cedar Fair would have been enlightening for all members.
  21. For those who believe age is a significant factor as the CEO: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/06/03/oldest-public-company-ceo_n_597602.html#s95640 Along with that; some presidents have been close to, or over the age of 70: Andrew Jackson was within a few months of turning 70 when his end of term was up. William Henry Harrison was elected at 68. (but he also died a month later due to his inaguration speech) James Buchanan was within a few months of being 70 when his end of term was up. Harry Truman was almost 69 when his end of term was up. Dwight D. Eisenhower was a few months over 70 when his term ended. and the senior of the group: Ronald Reagan was almost 78 at the end of his term. The point being, age should not make a difference on how well one can do thier job. If they can't do it due to medical reasons surrounding their age, the people around them will see a problem; not a bunch of internet cranks where the majority have not even met the man, let alone work with him close enough to have a valid opinion if he can hadle the job at his age.
  22. Let's be clear, you shared no details on why you feel the way you do. Your desire to share an open-ended statement yet give no reasons to back it up is troll-like. Now I'm sure you are not a troll, but why hide why you feel the way you do? Of course there is a rebuttal with everything, this is an internet forum. http://www.merriam-w...ictionary/forum Now if you don't want to have a discussion, why bother posting at all? Unless you are just being a troll, which I truely hope you are not. This is a rather fun discussion site, and we really don't need that type of hassle. Now what is intresting, is that you don't like:(from your about me page) http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php?showuser=1948 If you don't agree with Kinzel's age of being CEO, isn't that being judgemental? If you make a open-ended statement, yet play aloof to what is or is not an opinion, isn't that just being fake? I'll leave the ignorant reference where it is at.
  23. Excellent answer to a well thought out opinion!
  24. Why does Mr. Kinzel need to retire?
  25. So what is your opinion of "when to go".
