  1. All coasters have a certain amount of sway in them, and they are designed to as well. If there was not a sway allowence, the structure of the ride would actually destroy itself, because it would be fighting the wind as opposed to blowing with the wind, and springing back. I would have to imagine SoB's sway for the first hill is probably 6-10 inches. This is probably how the sign fell over (if it was not a tornado), it was low enough to the ground that sway was factored into the original design, and after many years it was weakened and it took a violent storm to crack it near the base I was watching the Discovery Channel about the WTC, and when they designed the towers, they accounted for a sway of about 3 feet. And, I believe, the Sears Tower in Chicago can sway up to 6 feet.
  2. CP is a resort. People go to CP for 2-3 days at a time because the park is very big and has the most rides over everyone else. PKI does not have this option since almost 95% of their guests do not stay on park property. A majority of the guests will go to PKI and ride the rides instead of BB if there was an extra charge since they are not staying on park property. After leaving any waterpark, I like to take a shower, and have a nice sit-down meal. Unfortunatly at PKI, you can take a shower, but it is not very private; and there are no sit-down restaurants in the park. This is probably the reason WaterWorks is on longer there, and Boomerang Bay is supposed to be more of a "resort" atmosphere. Disney World charges for their 3 waterparks. Are they "gay" as well?
  3. Why start the pain BEFORE you get married?
  4. 4?? Did I sleep through WW 3? :jerry:
  5. Ya Andy, I just happened to be on Coaster Buzz and the info just popped up. It is quite ironic!
  6. The dress code was not that strict. Shirt and shoes, no tank tops,no bikini tops, no cut-offs. Basically attire that is in good taste. When I would go in the mid 80's, my family would have to make a reservation when we got to the park at 9am, or it would be filled up for the day. A sit down option would be very nice at PKI. I'm not sure if it could draw people year- round, but there is no reason for it not to be opened during the year. CP has 2 sit-down restaraunts, TGI Fridays and the Bay Harbour Inn, and both do very well during the year. Fridays is only open when the park is open and Bay Harbour, I believe, is open for most of the off-season.
  7. CP also has 2 T.G.I. Fridays. One in Hotel Breakers and one at the Radisson.
  8. I thought that the monorail was more of a family type ride and added something to the park that many other parks don't have. I guess the difficulty would be the upkeep for the animals, meaning that even though there was a small charge for the monorail, the ride only operated from May- Sept., and the animals had to be kept somewhere year-round. I have heard rumors about the Cincy zoo and KI having some sort of an association, but the summertime is the busy time for the zoo as well, and they don't want to be limited on their attractions for KI's sake. I'm guessing if the animals did come from the zoo, KI must have "rented" them. All in all, the monorail was a very nice exibit, and it is too bad that it is no longer there.
  9. I think PKI needs a sit-down restauraunt more than anything else. The International Restaurant was very nice to go to in the middle of the day and get away from the heat and crowd. I hope with the new focus on food that this can become a reality.
  10. Well, in all reality, any and all drinking water is regulated bt the EPA. City Water and Cincinnati Water Works do just enough to meet EPA standards. From time to time a water main will break or use of a fire hydrant will comtaminate the water lines, something that you will not find in any bottled water. Just refer to the City of Cleveland during the recent blackout, people that use city water there were told to boil the water for contaminates due to the fact that there was no power to purify the water.Aquafina website At the Aquafina website, you can read exactly what they do to the water and what additives the Pepsi Cola Co. does to their bottled water.
  11. PKI may purify the water, but they have to use either chlorine or bromine to make the water safe to swim in. Either chemical kills any type of bacteria on contact and is necessary for pools, spas, etc. Purifing drinking water is a much more in-depth and costlier process than what any water park goes through. Small amounts of chlorine or bromine will not hurt you if you drink it, but if you do, worst case scenario would be the Hershey squirts. I don't suggest treating the lazy river as your personal bottle of Aquafina.
  12. The pond was eliminated approximatly 10 years ago. There was running water near the "mill" display where everyone throws loose change right next to the front train queue in the station. There was also water coming out of the cave display after the circle to the first lift hill. Also changed was the exit, it currently runs through where the pond once was, and it was a rather large pond. The old exit came out under the last queue line in the station and emptied onto what is now a utility road blocked off to the public. If you look closely you can see a door with a moon symbol carved into it like you would see on an outhouse, that is where the old exit was. I'm not 100% sure about this, but I believe the wire supports for the large turn out of the station have always been there. If they haven't, does anyone know when they were installed?
  13. If Top Gun was the last suspended coaster built, and there are 10 of them left, what was/is original about it? Top Gun is a quality coaster. Just because it may not be as popular as it once was, does not mean to tear it out. It is a great beginner coaster for kids, it is a little rough, but not too bad, and a little fast, but not too fast. Every park needs a coaster like Top Gun.
  14. The most beautiful and cleanest park has to be Busch Gardens Williamsburg. It really does beat Disney, and the rides are top class.
  15. Even though Scooby Doo may be better, CP does have Disaster Transport.
  16. It would be a huge disappointment if PKI does not do anything for the ride that put the park on the map and made PKI what it is today. 25 years of being one of the best coasters in the world, PKI HAS to do something big.
  17. I am not trying to start anything, but, what are the forums here for? People give there opinions, and talk about likes and dislikes. Saying that we should not talk about the problems and go to guest relations, is just like saying if you really enjoy something, don't talk about it here, go to guest relations as well. Many of us do not have connections to the park, is it wrong for us to praise the park as well?
  18. Raging Wolf Bobs @ WoA is not even close to the same league as SoB. SoB has a problem and PKI has to deal with it. For example: how often is the line longer than The Beast or FoF? Being how unique the ride is, the wait should always be longer. There are only a small handful of guests that can tolerate SoB, that in itself, is more than enough reason to try and make it a ride that more people can go on.
  19. Like Chef, I miss the Bakery as well. I also really liked Flight Commander. It was a very unique ride that I have not seen anywhere else.
  20. The Beast was not built in separate parts. It did take 2 years to build and about 3 years to design.
  21. Dreaming of rides, at any park, that don't include extra $$ is like hoping that there will be free parking, it's never going to happen.
  22. Landlords must give 24 hours notice to enter a dwelling that they rent, and the tenants have to let them in. Being a landlord, I have run into this question many times.
  23. I'm not sure if this has been posted before, but I found a great site dedicated to The Bat. The pics are unbelievable. The Bat
  24. ?? The Rockin Rollercoaster is FoF clone.
  25. Discovery poll According to the Disovery poll at their website the #1 wood is Beast and #2 is Thunderbolt at Kennywood. SoB is listed but it has less than 1% of the votes. Coaster Choice 2003 Even at coasterbuzz.com (who won the Golden ticket for best park website) SoB only received 14.1% of the votes behind The Beast, Ghostrider. and Shivering Timbers. And in 2002 SoB was not ranked.
