Lots of campers brought their pets with them and they kept our Pet Care Center very busy. I had campers bring all kinds of pets, from pot belly pigs, goat and dog together (they were the best of pals), ferrets, fish, and of course dogs and cats. We provided a great service to the campers where they could rest easy that their pets are well cared for and they will not find any surprises if they let their pets in the camper.

I was going through our photo album and came across a photo of me again in 1972 wearing our Kings Island jacket with the KI logo in plain view:

That was Karl Wallenda who did his tightrope walk across the fountain and that is Karl after he climbed up the tower! There is NO way that I would ever do anything like that. Now I have gone sky diving when I work at the park that summer but I will not walk across a wire or climb without being hooked into a harness. But that was back then when I was young and wild.

Here are the pics from 1972: I was only 17 years back in 1972. My cousin and her family are with me in the antique car. I really had nice red hair back then! The opening day of the season in 1972! My aunt in front of the tower This is a picture of me in the summer of 1975, right after Jaws came out. This was taken at Wildwood, NJ. My brother-in-law is in the background. Notice my tee shirt which was all the "litter getters" had designed and made while at Kings Island.

The ideal behind having some one from the cash room picking up the cash is two fold: Removing the cash taking all the room in the drawer and most important, removing all the cash and prevent shrinkage of all forms. By leaving all that cash and not having it deposited by the cash room invites problems just like this. When I was in admissions, we were always under surveillance and could not leave out register without securing the cash drawer. When we went on breaks, we were escorted by our supervisor and locked the drawer in a secured box. We would have our cash collected at least twice per shift, also we had none of our own personal funds on our body and our pants/shorts had NO pockets. Did this worker just walk off without being dismissed by his supervisor and recording his total sales vs cash on hand and balance out his till? Any way you look at it, he will never have any job prospects that require any sort of cash handling. That felony record will go with him through out his life.

Great Coasters announces Big Fun
KI-ORIG-EMP replied to TombRaiderFTW's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I miss the Shooting Star, which was really fun to ride! -
I heard there is lots of land near my home town of Kings Mills that would be great for a new park. If the Little Miami River ever flooded it, it is time to board that boat that Noah is building.
-
It would be great if the new wave pool would have an undertow like Point Pleasant, NJ has. If you did not know about it, it would knock you on your butt as it broke and went back out.

The only way for that guy to leave the park with that much cash is to remove it from the cash drawer and stash it in his pocket. As for having $1,800, his starting funds was around $500, which is supervisor collected from the cash room. As for having lots of cash at one time, it is collected several time during the day. Terpy is right as there would be video of him and he should had learned from other people that have got caught for these kind of crimes and they paid the price. It just does not pay, especially thinking he can take $1,800 and live like a king. It is one thing to be short by $18 on a till that has over $20,000 in receipts by just sloppy cash handling, but not that much. Now most likely, he will have a felony on his record if and when convicted.

His reward is an all expense paid trip to a nice resort with free room, 3 meals a day, free medical care and a nice view of the country side and a room mate with a guy named Bubba, who also won the same prize! Oh yea, don't forget to take part in those free classes to further your education, as you didn't learn anything while in high school. But don't bend down in the shower to pick up the soap.

I would tend to believe that Cedar Fair won't announce anything regarding SOB until they have researched if it would be worth the expense of rehabbing it and if they did, would the ride be as or even less popular. Even then, would it still have problems regarding the smoothness of the ride. I would expect that Cedar Fair would also consider it would be better to design a new wooden roller coaster that would be a record setter woody without having the same baggage that SOB brings. Either way the park will not just tear down the ride without doing an extensive study before deciding what will replace it.

if they keep the employee entrance at Western Row Dr, will Mason finally activate the left turn signal, which is badly needed!

Here I go a again with the photos I had problems with. It shows me as I was when I was 17 years old in 1972 sitting in the antique car with my cousin and her family during our visit to the park. I would like to see Cedar Fair bring back music geared for each section of the park, just like when it opened in 1972. International Street had French accordion music; Kids area had cartoon music; River Town had country, Coney Mall had rag time and Octoberfest had German music. Please find a picture of the litter getter's uniform which was all white, white pants, shirt and golf cap. That was the uniform that I wore when I was first hired in 72.

I will write more about PETA after I make a field trip to The Outback Steakhouse and sample the New York Strip steak (medium rare). -
PETA Accuses SeaWorld Of Animal Slavery

I would like to see a peta person in the ocean with great white shark and pray that the shark is religious as after the shark says grace, it is dinner time. -
Waldameer to go cashless
KI-ORIG-EMP replied to PhantomTheater's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I am against this. People should always have the right to use cash for the petty things like drinks and so forth. If the employee is trained correctly, there will be no problem in giving the correct amount of change, problem with thief and and other cash handling problem. Just pay attention to detail, do ONE transaction at a time and the register will do the work for you and tell you how much change to give back. Is this Wally card just a park issued card? Does it have a Mastercard or Visa logo to be used any place where it is accepted? If not, what if they have funds still on it at the end of the day? Do they feel they must use the card in order to use up all the funds? What if they are short and need to do a split transaction with cash? How many people will keep a running balance on the card? It is one thing to use something like Scooby Bucks and replace it with a card like this, but do not replace cash as the official form of payment, which is good for al debt, both public and private. I see it as another way to increase profits at the expense of the guest that might not want to spend all of their hard earned dollars just to zero out that Wally card. -
Season pass sales blitz - Marketing experts please chime in
KI-ORIG-EMP replied to Jeorby Nanpa's topic in Kings Island
Every time you have your season pass scanned at the parking lot, front gate and use it in any of the food stands or shops that offer you a discount, it is recored and tracked. When you go through the front gates, your picture pops up after your pass is scanned. it shows if you have used it that day and denies you entry if you try to use it again. Parks, just like sporting events, make their money on what is spent inside the venue. The season pass holders that spend little or nothing while in the park is small as compared to the rest of the per cap spending in the park. If it in fact did drop, see how fast the season pass price structure would change and less perks being offered. it might not be as cheap and perks such as parking might be limited. I was a business major at The Mount and those are some of the things I learned in my business and marketing classes. Look at the season pass structures at sporting events. The better the seat location, the higher the price. Parking and concessions are much higher at sporting events and NO reentry is permitted. -
Want to ride the old Kings Island Monorail?
KI-ORIG-EMP replied to Gordon Bombay's topic in Kings Island
I was at Jungle Jim's and tased all the hot sauces. Most were ok but the last one was a killer. It was a green sauce and nothing happen at first. Then a delayed reaction kicked in and it took my breath away and no water or anything to cool off my mough could be found! -
Want to ride the old Kings Island Monorail?
KI-ORIG-EMP replied to Gordon Bombay's topic in Kings Island
I not only rode the monorail, I assisted in the construction of all of the track's foundation from 1973 to 1974. I know every nook and crannie of the ride and the lay out of the track. It is good to see the train's being operated by Jungle Jim's again. -
Terpy is correct about parking in private lots. You might come back to find your car has been towed away. When you figure in the time walking from the motel to the park, is it really worth walking that far and back at night in traffic just to try to save $12 parking? I guess you do not have a gold pass or the plat pass as they give you free parking.

Half Pint Brawlers Accuse Hulk Hogan of Ripping Them Off
KI-ORIG-EMP replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Kings Island
Why not just challenge Hulk to a cage match and anything goes? Now if they can pick him up and body slam him to the mat, then they will make history. Just don't hit beneath the belt. -
Lots of users have said, "I heard from this person", " I heard from this ride op", "I heard it from the dippin dot guy/girl" when it comes to what new ride or what will happen with SOB. Kings Island and Cedar Fair is like the military when it comes to intel about new rides or combat action. It is classified at "top Secret" and only people that need to know are informed about future plans. Only the top management, CEO, GM's, the board, ect know the plans. Thier job will be at risk if they let it known ahead of time what is being planned. NO seasonal employee and even full time employees not in the loop know NOTHING about future plans. Now if an employee was to say on this board, which KI monitors, about what they might or think they know, they will be looking for a job pretty soon. So what ever rumor you might hear, from any site on the web, is just that, rumor. Until it has been released, it should be taken with a grain of salt.
