Ok, boys and girls. Amusement Today just released their Golden Ticket Awards, supposedly highlighting the best of the amusement industry. "What about the worst," you ask. Well here's your chance. Submit a ballot showing your picks for some or all of the following: Worst Park Worst Steel Roller Coaster Worst Wood Roller Coaster Worst Park Theming Worst Food Worst Park Staff Dirtiest Park Worst Water Ride Worst Kids Area Worst Halloween Event

Ok. I'm gonna start a thread. Hopefully this will turn into an annual thing.

I'm just basing that on this article... nothing like a good beat-down after you get off work. http://wsbradio.com/news/071207sixflags.html

^ I've been on Raging Bull, and it is indeed very tame. But Apollo's Chariot is really an awesome ride. I don't think that's tame at all. You get some killer air time and some huge drops. I really want to try Nitro and Goliath at SFoG, though.

Speaking of new awards... I wish there were the "Brown Ticket Awards" that highlighted the worst rides/parks in the industry... I can see it now. Worst Staff: SFoG Biggest downfall in one year: Geauga Lake Worst Prices: SFGAm Most painful ride: SOB Worst Steel coaster: Corkscrew Worst Wood Coaster: SOB Worst Food: SFGAm Overall Worst Park: ??

that's ridiculous... I dont know whether to think that it's really funny or if its just really dumb... im leaning toward the latter.

I'd love to go behind the scenes during HH! That would be spectacular!

Graying out is a resultant of your brain being compressed due to the large forces on it. Unless you've got some meds that act like a cushion, I don't think you're going to stop graying out

KC did have some incredible airtime... but MF and Maverick are better IMO in terms of air time. Maverick's is just out of this world. But it's also somewhat rough on the turns. I still think it's one of the best.

I think that the #1 park award is given for overall experience. Sure the food is expensive. But name one park where it isn't. CP prices their food so that it is competitive with the rest of the industry... i.e. expensive. But they provide thrills that no other park can. It's the most impressive collection of rides in the industry. Granted other parks are great for their scenerey (BGE or IoA), some for just innovative rides (SFMM); CP has turned its beautiful peninsula location into the amusement park destination.

Surveys sent to amusement park fans. The parks have nothing to do with it. The only way to come up with a better evaluation would be to send it to more "well-traveled" fans. You can't just do some calculations and determine which ride is the best.

found another, better picture. http://rcdb.com/ig3570.htm?picture=36 When people first tried to do the vertical loop back in the old days, they made circles instead of ellipses, and that resulted in massive G-forces. Excessive G-forces can lead to headaches, and even brain trauma. But that's only when your brain experience about 11 or 12 g's I think... The crystal beach cyclone had some excessive lateral G's, and as a result they had to keep a nurse on call at the station at all times because riders would come off the ride with cracked ribs.

One of the big shots for Intamin rode it before they removed the heartline roll, and when he came back he was supposedly sweating heavily and had an awful headache from the roll.

A group of parks? Let's look at some of the winners/runners-up this year: Cedar Point Schlitterbahn Legoland Santa Cruz Boardwalk Holiday World KI Knotts Berry Farm BGE SFNE Knoebels SFFiestaTX EPCOT Islands of Adventure MGM Waterworld Park I'd say that these awards are more than just "a group of parks" trying to pat each other on the back.
-
I agree. I got 6 laps this summer and it really is a fantastic ride even without it. Though I was really looking forward to that heartline...
-
While I agree that a lot of the same parks/rides win every year, I don't think it has become a bore. The point of the awards isn't to spread recognition to every ride out there. It's to show appreciation where it is deserved. Good rides win awards. Good parks win awards. And as far as I can tell, the lists look pretty good. The top 10 coaster lists both look pretty accurate to me. As do all of the other awards.

That's true. KC was the best... I'll never forget the airtime hill after the loop. That was one of my favorite camelbacks of all time.

http://www.amusementtoday.com/2007gta090507.html CP is #1 yet again

Im gonna go out on a limb here and say that they're not the most unreliable... Here's some of my all-time most unreliable coasters (not in any particular order). Son of Beast! The Bat TTD Kingda Ka Deja Vu King Cobra

Does anyone remember when KI used to have Klingon characters walking around the park? I used to love those guys. There was one that was REALLY tall and looked really cool. But I was a lot younger then too, so it may have been me.

No doubt. It's not like they chose to be handicapped. My friend tore his ACL a few days before our CP trip this year. Should he not be able to ride anything because of an accident that prevents him from standing in lines all day? No. Besides, it was only one extra train in your case. What's the difference between getting on in 30 minutes and getting on in 32 minutes? (Yes, I know... 2 minutes). Being handicapped may seem like a "benefit" in situations like that. But put yourself in that wheelchair and see how wrong that assumption is.

hahaha so true. I used to call them the big log ride and the little log ride too! We always used to lean back just before the crest of the hill on the "little log ride" and lean forward right as we went over the top for that "added edge" haha. I just remember always riding in the very front on Kings Mill because I was the smallest, and I would get DRENCHED every time. Great times. I wish KI would refurbish congo falls so that it actually makes a good splash i.e. Snake River Falls @ CP. I just rode that a few days ago and I'm amazed every time. If you sit in the back, it feels like the water is falling on you for like 5 seconds straight. That's what I call a water ride.

I'll tell you right now that this could be a long post. Here we go. Day 1: I arrived at the park with my brother and his friends just after 10:00 and we ran to TTD to meet two of my other friends. The queue hadn't opened yet and we were about 100 feet in front of the launch hold position. But the ride didn't open until about 10:20, so after about a 45 minute wait including the delayed opening, we got on. Unfortunately, one of my brother's friends was too large for the seatbelt and couldn't ride. TTD qualifies as my new breakfast of champions. After that we headed over to Mantis to get on it before the line developed. We waited 5 minutes . I personally love Mantis, so that was great. We then headed to MF (my favorite).. I was so excited to see that the line was at the bottom of the ramp, but those meddling friends of mine wanted to do something that everyone could do, because Bradley was too large for the seatbelt. I wasn't too happy with my group by that point. Anyway, we headed back to Mean Streak, jumped on that in 5 minutes. I rode 2nd to the back seat and it was great (despite what most think )! We then went around the back, hitting Magnum and then Power Tower, then going up to the front of the park. We rode Raptor at about 1:30, and noticed that the trains were ascending the lift VERY slowly and sounded awful. Not 10 minutes after we got off, Raptor went down for maintenance, and didn't open back up even through the next day. I rode Demon Drop 3x, then headed back to MF myself to get some laps in. I rode twice, but since the park closed at 8:00, and we wanted to get another Maverick ride in before it closed, I had to leave MF before I got my 3 laps. Overall, a good first day. Day 2: Another one of my friends came on Friday, and he tore his ACL a few days ago so we had handicapped access. My brother and his goons were over in the waterpark, so I had no one to hold me back today! I'll make this one short and sweet... Raptor was down all day. Handicapped access is so beautiful.... I rode MF SIX times (including 2nd last train of the night), TTD 3 times, Maverick 3 times, Maggie twice, Power Tower once on each side, Mean Streak twice, DT, WT 2 times, and Mantis 2 times. One more note: While on Mean Streak, I noticed a man on a mechanical lift, about 100 feet in the air. But there was nothing up there. Like he wasn't working on anything. It looked like he was looking around, and that was in the same area as the construction vehicles shown in the CP Blog. Strange.... Great trip! Can't wait to go again next year! BTW... new MF lap count = 30!
