  1. Define "common sense". YOUR definition. I don't think people are approaching paranoia or posting insane ideas. I think we're trying to decode the 2014 Project.
  2. Michigan's Adventure sent out an email with the same subject line. Well then, there ya' go. Perhaps we all just have some very active imaginations. But sometimes an apple is just an apple. And sometimes a Snickers bar is just a Snickers bar. It seems the problem we have is that too many people are trying to turn an apple into a Snickers bar. I'm sure Don doesn't fill his days thinking of clever ways to disguise hints in ordinary statements. He's not a poet. He's a PR rep.
  3. Are there any other parks which have installed expensive rides, just to turn around and remove them later? Besides, I'm just pointing out that part of the e-newsletter title referred to summer flying by. IF it's a clue (and I'm not actually saying it is...I'm just playing the guessing game), we can't ignore that part of it just because the other part says "at record speed".
  4. That's an awfully expensive bone, wouldn't you say? Maybe. How much did it cost to relocate it?
  5. You guys seem to be overlooking the "flies by" part. This could be a record-setting flying coaster. Yes, we already have Firehawk, but somehow that just seems like a temporary thing they gave us to tide us over. I mean, think about it....they put it in a somewhat obscure location tucked behind FoF on the other side of The Racer. I've always said they tossed us a bone by giving it to us. It might just be they tossed us that bone as a way of keeping us satisfied for a while until we got hungry again... ...for something more than a bone. Perhaps for a Snickers bar. And doesn't one of the Snickers slogans pertain to satisfying your hunger? AND....if they name the coaster "Banshee" (again, ), wouldn't that work more with a flying coaster as opposed to an invert, giga (), or floorless since Banshees are spirits, and spirits generally fly? -signed, SecondSon, who's trying to make an attempt at decoding, even though he's not very good at it.
  6. Boy you hit the nail on the head there. It's disgusting to see what some people say in response to a news story. There could be a report about a car accident which killed 4 people on a snowy road, and somehow the trolls will find a way to blame the president for each time a fly farts in Panama.
  7. EDIT: Never mind. Deleted my comment.
  8. For Cedar Point to fork out $30 million on Gatekeeper, but then give us another transplant, would be a MAJOR slap in KI's face. I'd lose all respect for the company. Why would they give us Magnum when we already have Diamondback??
  9. Sorry...double post. Several members (including myself) already mentioned that idea several pages back in the discussion. Our thoughts were effectively dismissed when someone pointed out the location of the storage shed and transfer track.
  10. It's conceivably possible that they are building an entire new section to the park, and that the whole section won't be completed until 2016....but I highly doubt it's going to take that long to build the new coaster. It's more likely the coaster is just the first attraction to be built in that section. ...assuming what this guy told you was true.
  11. You mean like dueling/racing coasters? I'd think that would cost a lot more than what CF is willing to spend right now. Besides, we only see the footers for what appears to be one storage shed, transfer track, and station. I'm not saying it's outside the realm of possibilities....but highly unlikely.
  12. Thanks. I agree with BeastForever....how does this convince you it's going to be an invert?
  13. And then there are the people who get p!ssed off because you express your opinion about certain types of rollercoasters. A troll is generally someone who deliberately tries to sow discord, or tries to upset others by starting arguments. The key word there being "deliberately". There are many times when someone simply expresses a legitimate opinion that isn't shared by the majority of people, and then they get singled out for censure. People call them on it and try to point out why they are wrong. When the person tries to defend himself/herself, it leads to some tension. People then tend to look at the person as a troublemaker or troll, when all they were really trying to do was express an opinion. It's very hard for me to identify who's a troll and who isn't, because I don't know their heart or what's in their mind - and thus I don't know if they are expressing a genuine opinion, or simply trying to be a pest. Some people who have recently been labeled as "trolls" have made some statements I find myself agreeing with. But I don't think that makes me a troll. At least I hope not. I'm certainly not trying to be one. It's too bad more people don't actually do that these days. I used to be on Facebook, and most of my family members were on my Friends list....until one day I opened my mouth and posted a status update which reflected how I felt about something controversial, and the next thing I knew they were jumping on me about it. It caused a huge argument, and almost tore my family apart. I had simply expressed my opinion, which they were free to ignore. The ironic thing is, they wanted to be able to publicly post anything they wanted on their pages, and they got upset when people called them on it. But when it came time for me to do the same thing, they didn't want to extend the same courtesy in return. Needless to say I dropped many of my family members off my list. I firmly believe the ultimate contemporary paradox is "I don't tolerate intolerance".
  14. *GASP* Kinda like a flat ride is just a flat ride, huh? I meant, why do we need to argue about what type of coaster it is? They're all roller coasters. I just think it's silly we've been arguing with each other about what a hypercoaster is. Oh, I agree it's silly to argue about what a hypercoaster is. I thought you meant all coasters were the same. Picture link broken. Didn't show anything. http://www.cwmania.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=242&page=10 7th pic All I see is a grid of pictures...they aren't numbered. What do you mean by "7th pic"?
  15. *GASP* Kinda like a flat ride is just a flat ride, huh?
  16. Knowing some people, if they saw Don walking into a Mickey D's restroom, they would think it was a hint about what we're getting. And then they would probably debate whether it meant the coaster would be a stand-up with a splashdown, or if it simply meant KI was going to get new restrooms with gold arches above them. EDIT: I wonder how many times Don has been reading these comments and actually sprayed soda out of his nose from laughing so hard.
  17. Unless he edited it he didn't say B&M. He is referencing Magnum XL..Even then, the hyper craze hadn't really caught on just yet. Not many parks built hypers until the 2000's. Kings Island was not as late to the party as secondson makes it out to be.So again, ten years. Oh my gosh, I am so fed up with people NOT reading my posts correctly. I'm not saying anything about KI being late to the party. Sheesh! And I said nothing...zero, zilch, nada...NOTHING at all about a Bolliger and Mabillard hyper, DID I ?? Show me where I said B&M!! My gosh, I wish people would STOP thinking I'm saying something that I'm clearly NOT saying! I said STEEL HYPER. Magnum was the first one in 1989 - and all I meant was if we used Hoosierjtf's logic about building certain types of coasters when they are the "in" thing to build, then KI never would have gotten Diamondback. Using his logic, we should have gotten an invert instead. He thinks that because a coaster is somehow "dated", then we shouldn't get one. All I was TRYING to point out was that it took KI 20 years to get a steel hyper. We're now at roughly 17 years since the first invert, and we still don't have a full circuit version of one. If he wants us to get a coaster that is the "in" thing right now in 2013, then it should be a wing coaster, or 4D coaster. But I'm pretty sure it's safe to say THAT'S not happening. MAYBE it's a dive coaster, but even THOSE are getting dated. I was just trying to make a point. In MY mind, it made sense. But if my posts are that hard to understand, then the next time you don't understand something I'm saying, just ASK me what I mean. It's really that simple. The one thing that ticks me off a lot is when people twist my words. EDITED to tone down my frustration a bit. My apologies.
  18. Mr. negativity strikes again. Sorry for being honest! You have to admit that if this is not a record breaker you will be disappointed. I think what Young Stud is trying to say is that there are some people who won't be happy if it turns out this coaster isn't a record breaker. I happen to agree with him this time. A lot of people want a giga coaster. If it's not a giga, they'll be disappointed. Other people want an invert. It's it's not a record-breaking invert, they'll be disappointed. Some people want a ride like Verbolten. If we don't get that, they'll be upset. It's true. But Young Stud is not saying it must be a record breaker in order for him to be happy. Whether you think the guy's a troll or not, at least be honest and don't twist his words. I feel like SNL based their Debby Downer skit off of you. Im not trying to be rude but your not making much sense. If you don't like this thread, then you can just not click on it. Im sure everybody wants you to enjoy this site, but if you don't like this thread then don't click on it! You've obviously misunderstood my point. I'm not trying to rain on everyone's "Let's guess the coaster" party. I myself have played the guessing game in this thread. My comments were directed toward those who don't understand why KI can't announce the ride now. Don has already said it will be a while before an announcement is made, and it reminded me of a time in my childhood when I would always want to know things "now now now". I tried posting that little bit from my past as a way of helping people understand that if you simply stop focusing on it, and take your mind off of it, then it won't be long before the moment arrives. Terp liked what I said...which means he understood the point I was making. That's good enough for me. You, on the other hand, are free to put me on your "Ignore" list if my posts bother you. Inverts were meant for the 90s...? Is that why they've built incredible inverts like OzIris, Black Mamba, and Patriot since 2006? If we use your logic to determine what a park should build, then technically we never should have gotten Diamondback...because, after all, hypers were so 90s. In fact, the first one was built in 1989. It took KI 20 years to get a steel hyper.
  19. When I was a little kid, my family used to drive from Cincinnati to east of Cleveland where my grandparents lived. Back then, it took a good 5-6 hours to make the drive. Somewhere between Columbus and Mansfield I would always inevitably ask "When are we going to get there?" Know what my parents would tell me? "It will still be a few hours. Lie down and go to sleep. When you wake up, we'll be there." Know why they would never tell me? Because they knew it would make me restless, grumpy, and whine a lot if I knew how much longer it would be...and they didn't want to hear it. I don't blame them.
  20. This is in fact the 'Starting to Decode 2014' forum isn't it?! Decoding clues like 'no camping' or probable announcement dates doesn't seem silly to me. I'm pretty sure you've been a kid trying to tear off the wrapping as well or you wouldn't be in this forum. Trying to decode the TYPE of coaster isn't the same as you guys bellyaching and whining about WHEN it's going to be announced!!
  21. Here's a novel idea: How about we not worry about it, and let the park announce it when they decide to announce it? We're getting so caught up in silly stuff right now. It's not even the end of June, there is no steel onsite, the footers aren't even finished being poured, they're still moving dirt around...we don't even know the name for sure (and some of us *coughmecough* are going to really be disappointed if it's "Banshee")... ...and everyone is acting like a little kid who can't wait until Christmas morning. Be patient. Wishing they would go ahead and announce it isn't going to make them do it.

    Banshee

Who said the coaster is supposed to scare people? Besides, I guess "Gatekeeper", "Millennium Force", "Intimidator", "Dominator", "Top Thrill Dragster", "Full Throttle", "Maverick", "Patriot", "OzIris" and a LOT of other steel coasters aren't meant to scare people because they don't have scary names....right?? I don't give a flying fat rat's behind anymore, to be honest. KI is going to build what it wants to build and will name it what they want to name it. In fact, they could build a 10' high coaster that only goes 20mph and name it "Purple Baby Dinosaur" for all I care. I'm tired of this whole "guess the type and name of the new coaster" game. I will never for the life of me understand why people are so fascinated with evil creepy things.

    Banshee

Personally I can't stand the name "Banshee"....and really hope they don't name it that. I'm going to flip this around a bit, and ask the question: "Why do so many people want an evil, creepy theme/name for a coaster?"
  24. Exactly....this is Kings Island, which means they don't always build the biggest coasters each time they build a new one. Sometimes they do, but not always. Diamondback wasn't even the largest hyper when they built it. Other KI coasters weren't record breakers when they opened, either....Flight Deck, Invertigo, BSC, Adventure Express. Let's not get carried away and always presume KI will build a record-breaking coaster. We just have to wait and see. TheGreatTexan posted an interesting possibility. You never know if it's skimping on size or not. By looking at these pictures, A) Someone was tresspassing Someone is going to lose their job for taking pictures onsite and posting them on a fansite. Actually, the photos were taken from spaces in the fence in many different locations. I'm not an employee of KI, just so that those at the park don't become too concerned. I'm sure they know the construction site can be seen from the Eiffel Tower anyway, and anyone with a high-power zoom on their camera can take photos of it.
  25. On what basis do you assert they should know - simply because they are laboring in the hot sun all day? That doesn't mean anything. They're simply doing their jobs, which is to pour concrete footers at specific coordinates on the ground. Generally speaking, they're going to have a complete set of site and foundation drawings on which to bid the job, I doubt they took on the job as a T and M project. They should know the layout fairly well. They may not know the type of coaster or the elements, but theyll have an idea of the layout and scope. At this point, odds are there is a Forman or two that have sat in a job trailer with the steel erectirs and have seen the steel drawings as well. We seem to agree on certain points. This is what I originally said about the subject: I said they don't necessarily need to know. I didn't say "they don't know". All they need to know is the exact ground coordinates for where the footers are to be placed. They do NOT need the coaster layout in order to do that. I DID say they might be able to get a general scope of the project from the positioning of the footers, but based on those alone it would be impossible to say which direction any given piece of track would be oriented on any given footer....nor would they be able to tell what kind of coaster it would be (except for maybe a wood coaster.)
