OK one more question. I've heard rumblings that Maxx Passes from the old Paramount Parks work poorly at the Cedar Fair parks and vice versa. Is this true? Has anyone had trouble using their Maxx Pass at GL or CP?

Does anyone know how much CF spent to relocate Firehawk in comparison to how much they usually spend on a major coaster addition? If the relocate was similar in price to something like Face/Off or Wicked Twister then there might be some hope for a new coaster in 2008 based on the track record of both Ki and CP. But if it was more than they normally spend on a small coaster addition then I'm guessing we'll be seeing a flat ride. A giant swing like Skyhawk would be awesome.

I was just curious about this ride's fate. It is probably my second favorite flat ride surpassed only by Skyhawk. I knew that CP had tried to sell it in the past but obviously it was never moved. I was hoping against all logic that it may be relocated to KI because Coney Mall needs more rides at the far end and I really love Demon Drop.

I can't see here having any problems. The shoulder restraints are very flexible. They are not typical OTSR like Vortex and Top Gun. They are some sort of very heavy but flexible material that looks similar to backpack straps (IMO).
-
Its really never that crowded. I don't think I've ever seen people left behind in the station because there was no room for them.
-
I've been stopped there before. IIRC it used to happen more frequently when the ride was still new. I seem to remember being shocked during the 1998 season when we didn't come to a complete stop.

If it really is slow I am more inclined to believe they were scanning the pool despite what you've said. As a lifeguard myself I know what scanning looks like and from what you've described that is scanning. The wavepool is very wide which means the guards will have to slowly move their heads up and down in order to see what is in the middle of the pool and what is directly beneath them. It shouldn't take them more than 20 seconds to look up, down, and then back up again.

This isn't really a rumor but I wasn't sure where to place this so here it is. I've heard in years past that Cedar Point was trying to sell Demon Drop. So I was wondering two things: #1. Is CP still trying to get rid of Demon Drop? #2. If so, is there a chance they may just relocate it to one of their own parks? The reason I ask is because I think it would make a great addition to Coney Mall at KI.

Geauga Lake 2008 Attractions

Lol. Maybe they'll leave some of the rides standing and market it as the only country club with its own roller coaster. -
#1. They need to fix up the areas they already have before they go making new ones. #2. Sad but true I'm afraid. I'd like to see as much German theming preserved as possible as part of IS. I'm not sure how Adventure Express fits in. I would say it goes best with AZ but it is much closer to CM. #3. This should definitely be a top priority for CF. If Coney Mall were given a small face-lift with one or two new flat rides down by Vortex it would be so much better. #4. I don't think Timberwolf is going anywhere anytime soon. Also, you are letting the park map deceive you if you think dismantling it would provide easier access to Top Gun. Looking at Google Earth I don't see any way in which they could modify things to make TG less of a hassle to get to. #5. I don't think Dominator would fit there in the slightest unless they took out the amphitheater and Wings. Even then it would be a tight squeeze I think. Also, I'm not sure if I want to keep getting hand-me-down rides from GL no matter how cool they are. It would be nice to have an original KI ride. They do need to revamp Rivertown though and they need to put in a good attraction there before it becomes a defunct area like Oktoberfest.

Columbus Zoo Waterpark-Naming Contest
padfoot714 replied to jzarley's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
The Columbus Zoo is going to totally revamp this park and hopefully bring it back to life. Columbus Zoo has some major expansion plans in the works for the next couple of years that should turn it into a mini resort almost. -
WOW! I am so jealous! How did you get chosen for this? Do you know when the article will be printed and if it will be available online?

Fridays are OK in the earlier hours but it gets really crowded once school lets out for the afternoon.

What do you predict Kings Island's 08 attraction will be?

CF has had to deal with DT at CP for quite some time now, and DT is much larger and uglier than TR will ever be. Wife for Beast? Please tell me that was just a poor try at humor. Don't even get me started on "Disaster Theming." That has to be the worst idea EVER! I must agree that it is far uglier than Tomb Raider but the major difference is that TR totally destroys the aura of Rivertown whereas DT is just a big ugly building that blocks the view of the lake. DT may be uglier but TR detracts more from the area of the park it is in. As for the WOB, I was only being half serious. I would never name another woody after The Beast but I think it would be cool if KI built a reputation as a woody capital especially if they can get SOB running well. Also, I think that a woody just fits well with the theming of Rivertown and if you put one where TR is now you wouldn't have to go around The Beast. There is plenty of room back there in the woods. -
I'm hoping the new cars will leave more space for my legs and cause less pain. I'm definitely willing to give SOB another chance. One thing I think they could do to improve the ride experience since the loop is gone would be to add some tunnels like The Beast has.

I'd love to see a B&M inverted coaster like Raptor at CP. That is my second favorite coaster at there with MForce being first on my list. I have yet to ride Maverick though so I may be changing my tune after my trip up there in July.
-
Rivertown was one of my favorite areas of the park but it was completely destroyed by Paramount IMO. They annexed the Thornberry ride to Nick Zone and plopped the ugly and out of place Tomb Raider right into the middle of what should be an old west themed area. I'd love to see Rivertown returned to its former glory but I just don't see it happening as long as that eyesore Tomb Raider is still there. If you ask me, Paramount did a really crappy job of maintaining the original areas of the park. Rivertown and Oktoberfest have been reduced so much that they are barely recognizable as distinct areas. Also, Coney Mall is in serious need of some revitalization.
-
It's not quite as scenic as it used to be but it is still very pretty. Paramount let the western theming areas go to crap. Hopefully Cedar Fair will make it nice again. The CP railroad has great theming which is often very humerous.

I would recommend bringing shoes that won't fall off or finding some way to secure any loose fitting sandals to your feet. You must have shoes on to ride and when I first rode it as X-Flight I almost lost my flip-flops. When I rode it as Firehawk I brought rubber bands to keep my shoes on.

Geauga Lake 2008 Attractions

Dick Kinzel made it sound like GL will not be getting any major hard park rides for quite some time. I'm guessing that they will be getting more water park improvements if they see any improvements at all. -
Dick Kinzel interview
padfoot714 replied to Browntggrr's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I just watched the interview and read the extended version on the Plain Dealer's website and I am really pumped for KI now. I had heard people talk about how things were going to improve but I wasn't all that convinced. Now I am super psyched! Too bad for the GL fans though. It sounds like the hard park there is going to be taking some major hits. I was there last June and what Kinzel said sounds exactly like my experience. There were barely any people in the hard park but the water park was packed. -
That's a less than subtle hint that you think Geauga Lake is not going to keep their floorless coaster. I highly doubt that CF would take out another coaster from up there after they just lost two this year. I'm really hoping for some improvements to Coney Mall where flight commander used to be. They need some new rides there to spruce up that area of the park. Those stupid trampolines really bug me.
-
It won't happen this year but it is a possibility in the future. That whole are of Coney Mall needs some revitalization badly.
-
They really were not ready to open this ride on Memorial Day weekend and they should have waited until both trains were operational. For Pete's sake they were still painting the station platform on opening day!

One thing that annoys me is when handicapped people skip lines which are completely handicap accessible. For example FOF has an elevator next to the stairs. The Beast, Vortex, Adventure Express and several others have no stairs at all yet people still enter through the exit.
