KI & Miami Valley Railroad 1980 magazine article
standbyme replied to standbyme's topic in Kings Island
Thanks for all the comments. -
Here's one last thing that I have dug up to post during this off-season. This is a May 1980 magazine article about the behind the scenes of The Kings Island & Miami Valley Railroad. I am going to string this out over a few days because there is so much to read...and because I can! I hope you enjoy it.

(emphasis added) I must admit that I am surprised by your generalization.

So...with this kind of attitude there never would have been an American Revolution...a protest against the Vietnam War... I choose the road less traveled. P.S. Nothing personal Gordon...you know I like you a lot.

Sorry, i'm out of likes for the day...although this post deserved something more than a simple like anyway!

I just wanted to say that I liked your post VERY much...I just can't think of anything to add.

Happy Birthday to you!

The 25th Anniversary...now we are approaching the 40th...time flys when you're having fun! I'm not a big fan of this cover...I think I know what the designer was going for, but to me this cover looks more like a swimming pool brochure than an amusement park brochure. I like this page a lot. Scooby Doo, Where Are You

Paul, as it has happend at certain times during this thread I have had nothing "interesting" to say about the last few photos...but I am still enjoying them. Thanks!

I think there's a better chance that the park will announce their decision for Son of Beast.
-
I think it's a nice idea...it's personable. My only critisism is the music gets a little repetitive.

As always, call the park in advance for official word...but my guess is the park will totally understand your mother's feelings and let her walk back with you.

Kings Island 40th Anniversary Cup Released!
standbyme replied to savesonofbeastfb's topic in Kings Island
I love that there is going to be a 40th Anniversary cup, and I like the design...but I am not a fan of that style of cup. -
Paul, Not to hijack your thread...but I couldn't resist.

I don't think the dinosaurs were manufactured to work constantly...the majority of them are activated by pushing a button...and even then only after so much time elapses between activity. If my nephews are the rule of thumb, part of the "thrill" of DA is pushing the buttons to make the dinosaurs come to life...if it were not an upcharge it would be way to crowded for most of the kids to get a chance to push the buttons. (Much like one kid will monopolize one of the firehose type sprayers in Boomerang Bay.) I also think it is an upcharge to cut down on the likelihood of vandalism...if eveyone who was just bored could wander through I think the odds are greater that the dinosaurs would be "messed with". A lighter crowd means that the park can have less security.

It's not that old of a brochure...but here it is anyway. I still find it amazing that the park got two major rides in one year. Oddly enough, even though I am amazed the park got two major rides in one year...I don't really care for either of them! "Give Scooby Doo a big hug"...a line that once made me smile now makes me sad. I'm guessing The Beast will outlive USAToday. I like the Yogi, Fred & Scooby shot. "Clogging At Paramount's Kings Island"...nowadays when I think of clogging and Kings Island I think of Halloween Haunt. "Most bang for your buck"...I wonder who uses this slogan more, gun sellers, firework manufacturers...or brothels? Have a great day!

That's interesting...as a non-employee I always envisioned dirt-cheap meals for all "on the clock" employees at the cafateria.

^I envy every past & present employee that had that much fun at a summer job.

If we were playing "Where would you rather be"...1972 would win by a mile! (As a side note, I worked at SuperX...which was then bought out by Hooks...which was bought out by CVS.)

I would like to know how this cover was done...it certainly looks like someone cut everything out to create this...but that Eiffel Tower would have been a nightmare. The Vortex logo is definately a product of it's time period...not that there's anything wrong with that. I wonder what that Kings Island rainbow thingy that the little girl is holding...I want one! So why haven't I seen that guy's black cat costume ever come out during Halloween Haunt?!! It is definately scarier than a lot of the costumes they have used. I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Paul...that is a nice photo. The water around The Beast was a nice touch.

Unlike KIfan73 this is a view I probably have seen (in person)...but since I don't remember it, I end up just like KIfan73! Thanks for the photos!
