Kings Island 70's Campground brochure
standbyme replied to standbyme's topic in Kings Island History
Because I figured some people might be thinking "Geez...can't this guy just lump these into one topic instead of starting a new thread everytime". Like I said, it makes my life a little easier...and I do have some more brochures waiting in the wings. I will answer the questions that I know... I am 99% sure it stayed year round up until it closed because I saw signs up and wondered how busy they actually were in the non-season. Funny/sadly enough I think they still had the same sinks (and mirror) when it closed! I have photos of the bathroom...yes, when no one was in it...I even have a shot of the "chocolate syrup" stall! (And people thought TopGun1993 took a lot of pictures!) There was no pool while we were there...I do not know when it was removed. There was a small playground...nothing fancy but it did serve to kill time before we went to the park. Not unless you count some of the clientele sometimes. You didn't ask...but the free shuttle ran all the way until it closed. Glad you liked the brochure. -
Kings Island 70's Campground brochure
standbyme replied to standbyme's topic in Kings Island History
My guess is 1974...possibly 1975. Since the brochure mentions Lion Country Safari and not Wild, it must be about when it first opened...what say you Ty? -
I hope I am not frustrating anyone with my brochure topics. I have been "cataloging" my stuff lately...and after I scan something I figure why not share it. I start a new topic for 2 reasons...the first one is so I can easily search and see what I have and haven't shared...and secondly so if someone else happens to be searching for a paticular brochure this way might be easier. This isn't a particularly exciting brochure...but I like it...and I figure that there are a few others on here who will find it fun. I never stayed at the campground in it's prime...but even in it's no-frills stage it was a blast! I wish everyone dressed a little classier when they went to the park. Not that it wasn't to be expected...but prices at the store were pretty high...and back then we didn't know where all of the stores were in the area so we did pay them if we ran out of something. One of my more memorable campground memories is when I went into the bathroom and someone had smeared what appeared to be chocolate syrup all around the walls of one of the stalls...come to think of it, maybe it wasn't chocolate syrup. I like the crown logo on this page...it looks very Oktoberfest like. I wish I would have taken more photos of the campground...but I didn't have a digital camera back then. I wonder where all of the street signs that featured ride names on them ended up? I am guessing they all left the park one way or another because they never ended up in any Fearfest/Halloween Haunt displays/haunts.

It is a nice picture...but not enough to have the watermark removed for $7.99.

Huss also managed to get rid of one!

^By adding "Terp, being careful" you blew the perfect "one word post"!

Tomb Raider: The Ride when it first opened was amazing, if the park were announcing that IT was being replaced by a haunt I would be sad...but since it is The Crypt I think the park has made a good decision. (To the people who will miss it though I am sorry.)

Oldiesmann, thanks for the research..I know that I have seen him in the past but I can't remember which cartoon. Your guess looks like it could be him...my only doubt is that the collar is a different color...and the dog in the ride seems to have something dark on the top of his head. I swear when I first looked at the photo a flight hat popped into my head...but I couldn't match that with anything. I am also trying to place the light tan dog that is on the left with his back to us...any guesses? (I couldn't find it on the site you linked too.)

Two respected members...two different points of view...is it any wonder some members are not sure what kind of frame of mind to have around here?! Then of course I could throw the old "Those who know don't talk..." theory about Gordon's post...but I have NEVER believed that old theory! I could also throw in that we have been told over and over that the park plans everything years in advance...but once again, I have never quite believed that either. I guess the point of my post is no one should get TOO upset when people are taking guesses of what the paint job does/doesn't mean...blame all of the past posts.

Thanks for sharing! I like how all of the photos of the people (and Scooby) on the front are taken from scenes in the brochure. I also like how happening the Bier Garten looks.

Ed Alonzo’s Psycho Circus- Magic and Mayhem
standbyme replied to TylerRider's topic in Kings Island
Since I have never enjoyed "cover version" shows this seems like a good idea to me...but I am probably in the minority. (The park should probably ask me what I think would be a good show...then do the opposite.) -
Gulliver's left hand looks like it has yellow stains...wonder if he was a heavy smoker? Thanks for the photos...it was also interesting to find out they Conway had played the park.

I had planned to add some of my own comments when I posted this...but things came up...so I figured you "guys" would rather have it comment free now than wait until Monday of next week! I hope you enjoy it...and have a good weekend.

I can't say as I can remember that frog. It reminds me of the one in the old Groovie Goulies cartoon...but that wasn't a Hanna-Barbera cartoon. Thanks again for the photos!

I am not familiar with a "generic shark"...I guess i'll have to pay more attention during "Shark Week". Seriously though, thanks for the confirmation...in hindsight I should have thought of it...but I didn't!

It IS a nice shot! I like the angle.

Sorry if I struck a nerve! (I am also POSITIVE that I do like some things that you yourself would find embarrasing...i'm just not going to help you out with that info. )
