I guess i'll take one too because when I read your original post all I thought to myself was "Who'd have guessed"! (John, I guess I have too much faith in you! )

My family have always been loyal to Kings Island. Even though we are located about the same distance from Great America (Gurnee, IL), Six Flags (St. Louis) & Kings Island, we have always considered Kings Island "our park". As I have mentioned lately I am sorting through some of my stuff...and I wandered across this old postcard packet that I got back in the mid 1970's when we were at Six Flags. (It was our one and only trip there...we just preferred Kings Island better.) I have no idea how much things have changed at the park...but I am guessing that pretty much all of this has...enjoy!

I can not recommend this event enough...not only because of how much fun it is, but the charity that it helps out is excellent. Unless something unforseen happens I will be attending again this year. I hope that this year the event fills all the way up...it certainly deserves to. I would like to thank the Kings Island for continuing to support this great cause! Here is my trip report for last year's Coasting For Kids day.

No apologies necessary...this is interesting.

I also like the new look...but then again I have always liked blue so I am biased. Thanks for the pictures Paul!

^Thanks for sharing your story, it seems like a great memory!

^It took me awhile to see that you were posting a shot of King Cobra...all I kept seeing was those sweet mullets!

The only gold handed out nowadays are the parachutes the CEOs walk away with.

Thank you...and your girlfriend's father for sharing these! I can't get enough of the early park shots...and there are some good ones in this batch. (I especially like the skyride one.)

"Come be a kid again"...a great slogan! I have to say, as much as I love Scooby...this is not his finest hour...appearance wise that is. (His feet are really bad.) Only in the 70's could you see dresses like the entertainers are wearing! "...you are whisked through the make believe lands of our Enchanted Voyage," Have a good weekend!

I am guessing that when most people say that they would like a piece of a ride it is just like Goodyellowkorn...just a minute little piece as a keepsake. Just one timber of Son of Beast cut into small chunks would be MORE than enough to "appease" the fan boys...I consider that cheap goodwill. There are some people on this site who appear to be fairly level-headed individuals who brag they they have a piece of a ride on their computer tables that they are using as a paper weight...is that so bad? To each their own, everyone appreciates different things in life...which is what makes the world an interesting place.

Spare parts and scrap metal that save and generate cash > Appeasing fan boys. First off, why should everything come down to a bottom line? Secondly, it is hard to define where that bottom line actually is. Who is to say that the park would not make more in the end from the goodwill of appeasing fan boys than selling something for scrap metal prices? A happy "fan boy" is probably going to be spending even more money at the park because they feel they have a special bond to it. Over the years in the record store where I work we have received TONS of amazing promotional posters and items that we could have sold for big money...and I did turn down some nice offers...but we would always just give them away, by doing that we had loyal customers. ( We are the last standing record store in our town...we outlasted 6 other stores.) Here is a nice item that the park gave away to some of it's employees back in 1989: I have a feeling that in today's world this would never happen because of that almighty "bottom line" mentality...the park would be handing out printed certificates.

My 2 favorite parts of the video...seeing The Banana Splits with The Enchanted Voyage in the background, and watching the "keelboats" coming down the hill. Thanks for posting the link!

I really like that picture! (Thanks!)

Once again this is what is wrong with how corporate America has conditioned the general public...all it takes to "justify" a policy is to say that others are doing it...so it must be ok. KIfan73, Thanks for posting the flyer!

^I wish that shot was in focus...it's got some interesting things in it.

Hi Mike, Personally, I do not call what you have a brochure...I consider what you have a park guide/fun guide. (Which I PREFER over a brochure.) My definition of a brochure is something that you find outside of the park...like at hotels...it's trying to attract people to the park....what you have is what is handed out inside the park to help guests locate things. (Like I said, I like guides better than brochures!) Thanks for linking to yours!

^No, it's not Muttley...if you punch on the link below that Oldiesmann poster you can see a bunch of Hanna-Barbera dogs...or rather a pack.

This is one of the 2 brochures that I have from 1974...I find it odd that the park made two different brochures in the same year. (Maybe they were geared towards different regions?) This is easily my least favorite Kings Island brochure cover...what were they thinking with this slogan and the depressing black cover?! Yeah, Happy days are here again...pay no attention to that funeral type cover! Notice on the left in the Enchanted Voyage shot is the carousel of mystery dogs from rcs' Classic KI Pics thread! I like how The Banana Splits are sprinkled everywhere in the brochure! One gone, one a shadow of it's former self. I hope everyone has a very good weekend!

That would be cool! (It would be even better if you could also see it from a campground. )

I love today's shot...it reminds me of what it looked like just before you dropped...thanks!

I will confess...your posts in this thread DO have me confused.

^I appreciate that you are going to the effort to solve the mystery. Personally I think you are closer with your first answer...with the above dog his tail & ears are not a dark color...maybe it's the offspring of both of your answers!

Kings Island 70's Campground brochure
standbyme replied to standbyme's topic in Kings Island History
^Oh yeah...although they did add about 8 nice cabins sometime after this brochure was made...and they were cool. (We even tried to buy one when they closed, but they said that there were already plans for them...anyone know where they ended up?) I think "functional" summed up the campground the last few years...but believe me, my best memories of going to the park are connected with the campground.
