  1. not to cross fire here, but i didn't read it as a rant about how terrible the park was, rather him pointing out some of the things that he noticed while there and whether he liked them or not, other people on this site have been saying nearly the same things, just having them more spread out and not all at once like nick did.

as for the Diamondback thing, usually when a new roller coaster comes out almost everyone seems to place it high on their coaster charts, and then after a season or two it starts to slip, i know this was the case when it came to Firehawk with me.

  2. okay, if they just put head light decals and a grill decal on the front of the cars for each train of backlot, it wouldn't be such a bad change to solid colored trains.

right now they look like blobs with wheels.

    (great trip report.)

  3. Woodstock Flyers (Runaway Reptar) wasen't working, and a worker was there. I asked her why it wasen't working, and she said they were not aloud to tell us.

that's weird, she wasn't allowed to say that the ride had valleyed? that doesn't make much sense, especially when you can see the train setting stopped overtop the station.

  4. plus, other rides in the Cedar Fair chain have the option of purchasing 3-d glasses (disaster transport comes to mind).

is there another price break with a higher amount of glasses purchased? if so, they could buy in extreme bulk and just distribute where need be.

if Kings Island is paying for their park's only, i think they should ditch the 3-d glasses and go with some stickers to place on backlot's coaster trains to make them look a little bit more like a car and not a blob with wheels.

  5. ^^read the answer given,

Zach, the model on display is of an existing coaster. It's not an idea for a future design. We have a couple of different coaster models at the park.

the post you put a link to was about the scorpion model, which is a made up coaster, so it couldn't be existing.

unless the man behind the curtain is really confused it couldn't be the scorpion model. :)

  6. Chris Hughes – Today was a great day at the park!!!! My question is that I noticed Christmas lights around Backlot, Tower Gardens and the Eiffel Tower….what are they for?

Chris, I’m glad you had a great day at the park. The lights on the trees are for a new night time show that will be unlike any other light show you’ve seen before. We’re excited about it. Full details including the dates and show times will be announced soon. The light show followed by the fireworks will be a great way to cap off a memorable day at the park.

so i guess the "man behind the curtain" just semi-confirmed starlight.

  7. so, i know it's not on the online park map, but is Son of Beast on the park maps provided at Kings Island?

the only reason i ask is because i think i remember reading it was hard for the park to make a decision whether to include it on the park maps or not, and if the decision to not have Son of Beast operating this season was made so close to opening day i didn't see them having enough time to have new park maps printed in bulk and shipped to the park.

  8. Scooby_Doo, you and I are in the minority there. I believe only DropZone99 is the other person joining us in the pain free rides on SoB.

i'm also one of the few that has pain free rides on Son of Beast.

with that said it's most likely obvious that i'm saddened about the rides closer durring the 2010 season, but hey if it means that i will get to ride it again in 2011, i'm all for it being closed one season. i just hope that if they do a major over haul they don't go the same route as texas giant. i would love for Son of Beast to be able to remain the worlds tallest and fastest "true" wooden roller coaster and not be switched to a steel hybrid coaster.

i just really hope that they can find a way other than tearing the ride down like the park is wanting to do.

*oh, terpy, i know this was a post in the first few pages of this thread, but i think you're on the non-haters side of the Son of Beast debate. smile.gif

edit: thanks terp, i went to type non-painful, but changed it to pain free because that made more sense, then forgot to go back and edit.

  9. i'm not real big on the new monorails, maybe i'll like them better when i get to see a picture of a real one, not a computer generated model photoshoped to look like it's on a track.

i'm guessing that these are decal like "stickers" kind of like the mickey ear balloons that were on the monorails last year. if so, i'm really hoping that they don't peel back and start to get dirt over them like they were doing when i went back in july.

  10. today's 5@5

Q: Chris Hughes - Are there any other rides besides the ones in PS that will be getting a new paint job before the park opens?

A: Some of the rides outside Planet Snoopy might get a touch up but they won't be entirely repainted.

    ---------------------------

Q: Michael Persen - Why is there a bottom deck on the Eiffel Tower?

A: The Eiffel Tower is a one-third scale replica of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France. When the park first opened in 1972, guests were able to walk up to the 50-foot level.

    ---------------------------

Q: Asa McCormick - What are some typical morning safety checks that happen on Diamondback?

A: Great question, Asa. Each ride in the park, Diamondback included, goes through a series of daily operational, mechanical and electrical tests. In addition, each ride is certified by the State of Ohio before the season opens. The State also conducts periodic reviews of each ride throughout the season.

    ---------------------------

Q: Nicholas Himes - Will there be a Media Preview day for Planet Snoopy this year, and if so will any members of the public be invited?

A: Nicholas, we are planning a media day for Planet Snoopy, but the public's first opportunity to experience the fresh new look of our kids' area will be when the park opens to the public April 17.

    ----------------------------

Q: Travis Nuss - will Son of Beast be open? i know you get asked this very often but, can i please have some feedback?

A: Travis, no decision has been made concerning the ride.

  11. A lot of great questions today. If we didn't answer yours please re-submit it for another day.

Q: Kyle Joyce - In the past few seasons, Scooby Doo and the Haunted Castle as technically part of International Street. For the 2010 season, will it be considered part of Planet Snoopy, or International Street?

A: Kyle, our new dark ride experience will be listed as part of International Street and included in our listing of family rides.

    ---------------------------

Q: Travis Nuss - can you guys add more space to the park without affecting The Beast? ( sroundings and not destorying The Beast)

A: Travis, there is enough space to work with to build the park again, and it could be done without affecting the area where The Beast is.

    ---------------------------

Q: Adam Woltermann - How and where do you sign up for the tours at Kings Island to go behind the rides and in the sign shop and more?

A: Adam, the behind the screams tours are scheduled as part of an event the different enthusiasts groups such as the American Coaster Enthusiasts and Great Ohio Coaster Club may be having at the park. Often times these events include question and answer sessions with park officials, exclusive ride times and a picnic-style meal. The Beast and Sign Shop are two of the most popular tours.

    ---------------------------

Q: Alex Metz - What is the chance of seeing a charity event like Coasting For Kids at KI this year or next year?

A: Alex, Kings Island had a major charity event last year for the opening of Diamondback that raised more than $102,000 for the charity organization A Kid Again. We don't have any plans for a ride auction this year, but we will continue to do many of the things we have done in the past to help raise money for different charitable organizations including 5K walks for JDRF and A Kid Again in the spring, and the many contributions we make every year through our KI Cares program.

    ----------------------------

Q: Ryan Suhr - What is one interesting fact about Kings Island that no one seems to know?

A: Great question, Ryan. I think one of the things people don’t know is we're a city within a city. We have everything that you'd find in a city such as a post office, water, fire department, etc. Whatever a city needs to operate we have it here.

    link

i never knew that Kings Island had it's own fire department. that was a really neat tid-bit of information. :)
