ORL: Skydive Experience (II)?
Gabe replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Sounds like an excuse to construct an iFly simulator using (potentially) taxpayer dollars by throwing in the 'museum' aspect of it.- 1 reply

You may be able to bring your parking receipt to Guest Services for a refund. I'd contact the park for clarification.

Washington Monument

contacts? Does ANY publication, online or otherwise, still employ an editor? Sigh... -
As I understood it, the auto renewal option was for 2018, since they posed the question when you renew your 2017 season pass. I for one enjoy the time value of my money, so I opted not to auto renew for 2018. I will more than likely renew in the fall 2017 window, but not before the park confirms that the 2018 benefits are equal to or better than the ones offered for next year. I'd hate to make a non refundable purchase only to find out the park is shifting gears (who's to say that free Gold upgrade goes away, or maybe free parking? One never knows..)

Even better-ditch the VR on Ninja-less than the cost of weed killer! Seriously, though, Snyder needs to send some nickels out that way. The park could use them.

EPCOT is getting a coaster
Gabe replied to Colonel_SoB_fan's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
No doubt those spaces serve their current functions well, but they're hardly the highest and best use for the space. Space can always be found for DVC members and if the Wonders of Life is repurposed, there are other spaces in the park suitable for corporate functions (any of the post-show spaces in the Future World attractions, for example). Or, Disney could always just take a backstage area, create a reception hall, pair it with access to other behind the scenes stuff at the park, charge a premium price for such access and kill two birds with one stone. -

Also, don't lose sight of the fact that LOTS of foot traffic is driven to Epcot in the Fall for the Food & Wine fest, and again in the spring for the Flower show. Disney is trying to keep those guests in the park after they've sampled some food and had a few thimbles of wine. There is a lot of space available for repurposing-both Commnicores, Odyssey, Wonders of Life, plus the underutilized space in Imagination. I'm sure the GOTG replacement won't be a cheap overlay of some sort. Disney knows what the competition is doing, whether it be over at Universal (Kong, Potter), or even parks like SIX (Justice League). It may not have the 'Wow' factor like Pandora hopefully will, or the new FL at MK, but it will be another reason to stick around the park, instead of bolting for MK, AK or DHS. -
EPCOT is getting a coaster

The attraction needs to be put out to pasture. Barely anything has changed from the day it first opened, aside from the new movie they added w Ellen and Bill Nye, which dates to the early 90s, plus a clunky renaming of the ride and some facade work to the outside of the show building. The attraction suffers from horribly low ridership and its length is very long (about 40 minutes start to finish). Iger has been saying in recent years that the Epcot we all grew up with (or currently know) will become a hybrid park..some edutainment stuff, but also a good mix of thrill rides as well. The former Wonders of Life pavilion and Imagination are also set to receive new life in the next few years. And yes, WDW has a lot of room, but there is a restriction in Walt's will that only about 1/4 of the total land can ever be developed, so in an effort to conserve that land and take advantage of what's already built, Disney isn't interested in major land clearing unless and until a major park expansion takes place. -
Typically the first price increase is right after closing day. The past couple of years, the sale price has been extended out for 7 days past 7 PM on the last day of the season. Also, the payment plan is only good if buying or renewing online. Those paying at the park will be required to pay for the entirety of the pass at the time of purchase.

Decoding Episode 2.5: BONUS ROUND! Second Announcement!
Gabe replied to jcgoble3's topic in Kings Island
The Corps didn't put a halt to it; they stated that as designed, the ground wouldn't support it. In its eval, the Corps suggested a couple of ways it could work-basically by adding its own dedicated foundation. Whether the developer wishes to expend the capital to do so remains to be seen. -

See: Boomerang at SFSTL. Still SBNO going on 2 months.. -
For the love of Pete, I hope CF nixes any VR on any KI coaster. Any coaster they put it on will suffer a large drop in capacity given the time needed to clean and secure each headset, assuming they all work 100% of the time.

In years past, the Sunday Funday stuff for the kids was usually a kids maze or 2 over at Soak City, character meet and greet, pumpkin patch, a petting zoo (tho now that it's been over in Planet Snoopy, prob not) a couple of Halloween crafts and of course candy. Costumes (no masks) were allowed and a local radio station usually supplied music and did live remotes,. Once the Haunt info goes up, there will be info for the kids posted.
-
Not to be confused with "Mysties" who are fans of a certain show from the 90s. In the not too distant future...
-
No. Haunt only runs on Fri-Sat nights. In years past, Sunday has had some stuff for the kids in Soak City, but on Fall Sundays, KI closes at 7 or 8.

Disney wants to track your feet
Gabe replied to upstop's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I think the technology could be useful. In some ways, it's already helped, as witnessed by the Hub expansion at the MK, which now gives people some breathing room. The pathways at MK are narrow enough already, given the park's construction for body types typical of the late 60s. By tracking feet, Disney can tell where the most frequent logjams are in the park and take steps to alleviate them. -
Here is a free article which provides a bit of detail. Nobody is saying a settlement has been reached, but all indications are that's the case and Disney probably had the family agree to a gag order for a period of time. http://www.wthr.com/story/32488641/parents-wont-sue-disney-over-sons-death-by-gator

While riding BLSC recently, I noticed the outdoor control panel finally had the correct logo and coaster name. It only took HOW many years?
-
some issues are easily remedied; others, not so much. Several years ago, Delirium was down for 3/4 of the season awaiting a new motor, among other parts from Huss. And of course, WindSeeker had lots of bumps when it first opened, until the extra shock absorbers were placed around the ride just above the seats.
-
In years past, the kid friendly offerings were largely concentrated at SC in the plaza areas. There were also a couple of kid mazes as well. A pumpkin patch, character meet and greets and various other kid friendly Halloween activities were featured as well. Also, no costumes were allowed.
-
That goes for Gold/Plat passholders as well (reg season passes expire the day after labor day). You may get into Haunt once with your Gold/Plat pass. The no re-entry takes effect when Haunt begins-usually around 6. You are allowed to leave and reenter before then.

Oasis of the Seas Video Trip Report: Not Your Typical Trip Report
Gabe replied to RailRider's topic in Trip Reports
On the Escape, we made reservations for everything beforehand except the comedy club, which I was told could be done once onboard. Once onboard, there was an option to reserve through the in-cabin TV, but it wasn't active at the time I tried. By the time I tried again, each show was 'sold out' for every night; however, there was a standby line which was open 30 min before each show. People were let in starting 10 min prior-5 min after showtime. The lines sometimes were long, but I never saw anyone turned away. The comedy club only had about 100 seats, but could easily accommodate about 150 more standing in the back, which is what we ended up doing. The specialty dining places were like the restaurants at Epcot these days-no reservation=no dining there. Walkups were turned away frequently and told to make reservations, which were easy enough since each deck featured several touch screens where on board entertainment and dining could be booked. We got the specialty dining free when we booked (there was a choice of that, a $150 shore excursion credit, free basic booze package or free internet/wifi). For those thinking of cruising NCL be aware that NCL last week changed their beverage policy-you can no longer bring any beverages purchased in port onto the ship (NCL pours Pepsi and my gf lives for Diet Coke, so at our first stop, we purchased a 6 pack). All beverages on NCL must now be bought and consumed onboard. The only exception is that you may bring on bottled water if used for baby formula and proof must be shown. There has been a tremendous backlash over this, so perhaps NCL will get the hint and reverse course. They are the only mass market cruise line currently with this policy.
