Yes, Ohio, there still is a Son of Beast.
-
My view on Spongebob has decreased less and less over time. I used to like him, now he's really annoying. I especially don't like him because he's on that pathetic, awful, shameful excuse for a Television Channel Nickelodeon. I'll be very glad when I walk into Kings Island April 17 and see a beautifully done Planet Snoopy, not a jungle of awfulness called Dora, Spongebob, Jimmy, and others.

Dick Kinzel said in a report somewhere that parks that were not receiving a Kids Area retheme would receive a Starlight experience next year. Whether or not the parks not getting one this year will get one next year is up in the air, but I wouldn't doubt it. And yes, you're not the only one to realize the transformation that Cedar Fair is doing to Kings Island. While they are technically doing it to every park they acquired in the 2006 Paramount Park purchase, rumors were circulating months ago that Cedar Fair was looking to add hotels on site at Kings Island. Of course it hasn't happened yet, and I doubt it will as long as Great Wolf Lodge is not only promoted in the park but also has a walking path to the park.

It's Cedar Fair's gradual transition of Kings Island into the Cedar Point of the South. Enjoy!

There's also no Action Theatre, Crypt, or Eiffel Tower.

I have to point out that on the 2006 FearFest map Son of Beast was not featured. Earlier that season was the infamous 2006 incident where 27 riders were injured. Around Christmas that year they removed the loop in a matter of days. The ride was featured in the 2007 map, and opened in July. I know it's two different situations and all, but I'm just sayin'!
-
Terpy's got a point. If GCI comes in then if something happens on the ride later...err, sorry...WHEN something happens on the ride later...then GCI could be held responsible. Just like with PKI, when it was convinient, they said it was RCCO's fault, when not, they said PKI themselves built it. I don't see them at this point doing anything with the ride over the offseason. Let it sit over 2010 (Probably without feature on the park map) and then a few years down the road get rid of it when the finance allows.

I really dont think that anybody would not be looking/notice a 215 foot mountain of wood being torn down. It also doesnt seem feasable for said mountain of wood to come down quickly and quietly. So regardless if they remove the ride with or without telling the public, trust me, when the wrecking ball strikes, we and them will know. -KIBOB, just say'in Of course it's impossible in this day and age to "Quietly remove" a ride, of course people will notice. The thing is, instead of announcing to the public "Son of Beast will be torn down" or giving last rides or removing it while people are in the park, they can bring in the wrecking ball during the offseason when the General Public, WLWT, and anyone else who matters are not focusing on it s much.
-
I don't see any logical reason as to why KI should announce now the fate of Son of Beast, or at any time for that matter. Just quickly and quietly remove it when no one is looking, or re open the ride as if nothing happened.
-
Well darn. And it certainly won't effect the magnetic brakes of The Beast...sad Jackson.
-
So wait, when there's snow and ice on the track, the brakes become somewhat less in effective? *Evil grin*

This is why we need to quit it with the oil, but this board is for roller coasters, not politics. Didn't they say that higher gas prices actually helped the amusement park industry, what with people taking "Staycations" and all? I'd have to imagine though that there's a point where it's just too much to be worth it, and $6-$8 a gallon (WOW!) could be it.

A decade of Roller Coasters

Say wha?!?!? -
RCDB lists SOB as having a 2:20 ride time. Take into account about 20 seconds on the brake run and 40 seconds in the station (optimistically) then it's 3:20 per cycle. There's 24 riders per cycle times 2 trains that's 48 riders every 2 cycles. With the number of cycles possible in one hour that brings the capacity to a mathematically optimistic 840 or so riders per hour. 1000 is quite an estimate.
-
And by the way, if you are getting you're facts on Son of Beast (Or Beast's, for that matter) capacity from KI's site, you are highly mistaken. http://www.visitkingsisland.com/attractions/detail.cfm?ai_id=162 This lists Flight of Fear's hourly capacity at 2,000 people per hour. I HIGHLY doubt that is so. Note further down the page they list the ride as having 4 trains. It NEVER ran 4 trains. So the site exaggerates the capacity to it's greater advantage. The site says the capacity for SOB is 1,000 pph and Beast is 1,200 pph. Do you honestly think a ride with 2 trains of 24 people per train is that close to a ride with 3 trains of 36 people per train? Moral of the story: Don't trust the KI website for anything more then the ticket prices.

Yea, I'm bummed, I mean hey, where am I gonna go for an offseason fix now? But I'm not gonna cry over it, it's no where near on the level of D&B's and I guess there's better stuff to put there. It lasted 2 years, mayve that's longer then Apollo will hold the reins of my park!

Six Flags: Play Passes and Season Passes
Beast1979 replied to gigacoaster2k's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
It doesn't say online, I'd imagine only at the park you buy it from. Then again, this is the same park that offers unlimited visits to all parks for the same prices as a single day admission.... -
Six Flags: Play Passes and Season Passes
Beast1979 replied to gigacoaster2k's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
It works like this: Play passes give you free unlimited admission to all Six Flags Parks. Season passes give you free unlimited admission to all Six Flags Parks, 5 free tickets to friends, in park discounts, and a value book with &300 in savings. At Kentucky Kingdom, the play pass is $29.99 and the Season Pass is $39.99. Which is a STEAL, because at almost every other park, only a season pass is offered, and even if they are, they're offered at at least $20 more. I got a play pass for $30 at Kentucky Kingdom, and I couldn't be happier. All of my friends have passes with parking and discounts so it doesn't matter for me. If they're buying pizza they can get the pass discount on their pass and I can pay them back. I have free and unlimited admission to every Six Flags park and it cost less then a single admission at Kings Island. So, unless you want a book of $300 worth of mindless savings, want to pay $5 less for ice cream (Even though your friends can already) or want to take 5 or family members along, I say get yourself a play pass. It's essentially the same thing for a VERY generous price. Hope it helps! -
I think it just goes to show you how not only familiar with ownership change we are, but how typical it seems to us, when the deal hasn't even come through yet and we're guessing how long they'll be in charge. There are some parks who go decades upon decades without seeing ownership change, if they do at all.

While random, this topic wins. I'm craving rides like crazy now.

I don't think BLSC is a fail. Well, they tried to advertise it as something it wasn't, but as far as the ride itself, it's not that bad. It's like a nice big motion simulator ride, and it's pretty fun for what it is. A lot of people like it, and it's perfect for poking Kats!
-
Heh, I actually rode the Rocket Rods once when I was four in 2000. I don't remember much of it, but I do remember going through the tunnels past all those cool scenes. As for the biggest fail?
-
Uhm.....sure you keep thinking that.
