??? Firehawk was not intended for KI originally... I don't understand what you mean by that statement.

I went to Sunlight Pool many moons ago... it was on a daycare trip (and yes, I was one of the kids, not one of the teachers). This was probably around 1985. I've never been to Coney, except for walking through it to get to Riverbend. I checked out ConeyIslandCentral a few weeks ago and the park looks great. I got to thinking that we need to go there this summer, and then I remembered that the company I just started working for has their company picnic at Coney Island in June. I can't wait to go, it looks like fun.

Photo TR: Krazy City, Tri-County Mall
XGatorHead 8904 replied to CoastersRZ's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
You're griping about half an hour? Heck, can't get anywhere in half an hour in Cincy! Really? I can get to KI in 5 minutes, and Tri-County in 20! I just love my location! I was at TriCounty on Wednesday and didn't even notice this place, my daughter and I walked past it. Of course when we passed it I was trying to keep her from noticing the Disney store which is right next to Krazy City, so I was occupied. I didn't even know JC Penney was gone! Just shows how much I like going to the mall in the first place. I was just looking for some 1/2 off calandars for my cubicle. Got a roller coaster wall calandar and Disney desk calandar. Thank you for the pics, looks like this will join CoCo Key on my list of new places to take my daughter to keep her occupied until April 19th when KI opens again. BTW, who's the former KI manager at Krazy City? -
^Well, Son of Beast had to be born somehow. Wait, Beast is a mammal. Firehawk or King Cobra on the other hand...

I always considered the 2nd lift hill to be a funny social commentary on life. When the audio worked, it said something like "You have entered the forbidden temple. NOW YOU WILL PAY!!!!" The punishment for entering the temple, of course, would be having to get off the ride and living your life. Kind of a pessimistic view of life, but that's why I always thought it was funny.

Should KI host a New Year's Eve Party and charge admission?
XGatorHead 8904 replied to italianchef's topic in KI Polls
Uh, no. A majority of the things in the "game stands" are taken out after the end of the season and put in storage, and brought back out in the spring. And you might be a little hard pressed to find "volunteers" on New Year's Eve to run a festival. Gotta agree with Woofer on this one... would work if WF was still around, but otherwise liability would be too great for a one-off night. -
Should KI host a New Year's Eve Party and charge admission?

Wow, I'm reading a lot of suggestions on here that logistically would be a nightmare. Open up all the games? Who would staff that? Open all the midways? Let's bring in a ton of extra security for one day to keep the inebriated revelers off the rides. Preview a new show? Rehearsals haven't even begun yet for next year! Open FoF? Get those jet blasting space heaters ready! (Although I could be wrong about that last one - is the drum heated?) I could see opening IR and having an event up there, but not much more than that. -
When exactly did Leonard say that that happened at KI specifically??? I believe he was speaking generally...

Buy a carowinds pass and get free admission to Scarowinds all year long!
XGatorHead 8904 replied to kjkjkj's topic in Rumors
^I wouldn't call it official yet. CF can always change their minds (although unlikely). This time last year, it was "official" that the 2007 Halloween event would be "Fearfest", and we know how that ended up. -

^Sorry, I took a couple of days off from the forums! We did get complaints. Marketing did their best to get the word out about the upcharge and it worked in most cases, but there was a small number of people that refused to pay and ended up leaving, and most of those people made a stop at GR before leaving. But like I said, it was a very small number of people. I think most people that didn't like it either didn't come in the first place, or did pay and complained while doing so (and there were A LOT in that category that I dealt with). -
Take off tuesday to the Outer Limits
XGatorHead 8904 replied to Gordon Bombay's topic in Kings Island
They were originally going to go in the Star Trek direction, but not The Next Generation. Think ST:DS9, and the launch being into the wormhole... And that's the main reason I never really gave the new BG a chance...plus the human looking Cylons. I loved the originals too much! (And no Muffit? ) -

That may have been the case most nights, but not always. One particular night comes to mind the first year of FF. The front gate area was packed with people shoulder to shoulder, with absolutely no room to move. Admissions was caught off guard, as the projection was nowhere near what the park actually got. With staff already spread thin due to it being the end of the season, full timers were called out to sell tickets out of aprons. All 16 general admission windows were open, as well as the 8 windows in the Group Sales building and all 10 season pass windows, all doing FF sales. The GM and the Marketing VP were just some of the full timers selling tickets out of aprons. With different price points for general FF admission and season pass FF admission, plus discount coupons from Taco Bell, and having to direct credit card users to the windows, it was not an easy task. Fortunately for me, I was off having fun at my friend's bachelor party that night. I received a page at 3:45 in the morning (and I won't say where I was or what I was doing at the time; let's just leave it at that ) saying that Admissions was still counting money at that point and was nowhere near done counting. And there was no way that they were going to be able to balance anything. After that night, ALL full timers were required to work FF nights, NO EXCEPTIONS. Any full timer that didn't already have a departmental duty those nights (such as Finance, Marketing, HR) had to report to Admissions, who would typically only need them for a few hours (or end up not needing them at all). And I will add, many SP holders were not happy either. They were used to getting into the park for no extra charge, and many remembered the original Winterfest, when there was no extra charge. As FF went on the next couple of years, the initial novelty of the event wore off, and more people were unwilling to pay extra when they had a SP, or a daytime ticket to the park. That is what drove the decision for the no upcharge. To reintroduce it at this point (no matter how reasonable the park mgmt deems it to be, BoddaH) will not be viewed favorably by the SP holders and the GP. Sure, it WILL be nice for those who do go, but getting them in the gates in the first place will be CP's biggest challenge. -
Wow...that's the first time I've ever heard anyone say they had a bad experience there! Sorry to hear that. I had a great time when I went, and so has everyone else I know who's been there.

1980's Intamin ride catalog
XGatorHead 8904 replied to Browntggrr's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I agree with you Shaggy. When I was younger I had no problen with Zodiac, but when I got old enough to realize that we were being held up by chains, and they were looking rusty, I started to get nervous. But for some reason I kept riding... -
Admissions does not control the pricing, that would be the Marketing department. Also, there are now far fewer ticket booths than there used to be. The 16 general admission ticket windows that were located between metal detectors and turnstiles were taken out a few years ago, largely because a large part of the ticket purchasing trend has shifted from buying at the park to buying online. And if you ever go on a 50,000 attendance day, you'll be happy that there all those metal detectors (staffed by Security, not Admissions)!

And then there are plenty of us who have seen it hundreds (thousands?) of times when we were stuck in line in 1996.

^Nope. A keeper was killed by a lion at one point, but that was years before WAH was closed. (And there were no trainers, as the animals were wild and not trained). The only other WAH rumor I heard of is that there is still a frozen elephant carcass in one of the sheds near the old WAH. When I heard that, I just looked at the person stupidly and said "That must be a huge freezer". Just goes to show that some people will believe anything.

How do you rate the food service at Kings Island?
XGatorHead 8904 replied to Young Gunz's topic in KI Polls
When I was in high school, there used to be one right next to our school. My friends and I would walk over there once a week to grab a Reece's Pieces sundae. Now all locations in the Cincinnati area have disappeared. You have to go to Dayton to get any now. And hopefully I can be like Interpreter and be able to lose a massive amount of weight. Since we do eat at KI quite frequently, healthy options would be nice. I was just reading park info from 1981 where they were saying there was a make your own salad location. Bring that back! -
http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/07345/840790-100.stm I don't know about you, but I hate seeing individually owned parks bought up by corporations. The ones I can think of have ruined those parks IMO. I'm sure the families have good reasons, though. Now, I admitedly know nothing about Parques Reunidos, but hopefully they do keep the individual feel of parks like they say they will. Stand strong, Holiday World!

How do you rate the food service at Kings Island?

^No Friendly's in Cincy anymore... so that would make it a unique dining experience! Let's go for it! BTW, the only 2 Friendly's I know of are near the Dayton airport (where I always fly out of whenever I do fly) and near the Daytona Beach airport (where I usually land whenever I fly)! -

XGatorHead 8904 replied to Young Gunz's topic in KI Polls
Ah yes, a topic I feel strongly about (I worked in Food Service at KI for 5 years, and averaged a visit every 2 weeks in '07 with food bought almost every time). The food quality denifitely declined through the Paramount years and the first year under CF brought no improvement. The burgers are usually cold and hard, the pizza is tolerable but not exactly satisfying for the price, cheese coneys with hard buns and the hot dog prices were outrageous. Long gone are the great brats and metts at Bier Garten (I worked there for two years and yes, I still miss those), the freshly-baked on-site pastries at La Patisserie Francaise (yep, worked there too), the ribs and and yummy rib sandwiches (yes, they were processed meat but mighty tasty and better than the McRib) at Columbia Palace. Now we have the aforementioned stale burgers and dried-out chicken at Wings. The only time I had a positive experience with a food service associate this year was at the blue ice cream stand in Nick U. She actually smiled and asked my daughter if she was having fun. All the other food associates we encountered this year were sullen and obviously felt that they had better places to be. I guess at least no one was outright rude to us, but still, SMILE PEOPLE. If you're not having fun, at least make an attempt to look like you are. I have said it many times on here and will say it again...Disney's food rocks!!! Better selection, better quality for the price (still high, but it's a park and I don't feel the need to complain about it if the quality is good. I feel it's cheaper than KI, which may not actually be the case but that may based on the better quality) and healthier options. I love the fact that we can get something other than fries as a side for my daughter's kids meal... she loves the grapes & cheese cubes /apples/ whatever else is offered at the particular restaurant we are visiting. And the Dole Whips... . If you've never had one, get yourself down there to Adventureland!!!
