  1. Looks more like they borrowed the template from Cedar Point's Fast Lane page....or is this the beginning of a ride swap program? If they can move X-Flight from Geauga Lake to KI, then... Just kidding, please no one take the above statement seriously!
  2. It's been mentioned on this site before, but the Enquirer posted an article about the Christian Moerlein Bier Garten yesterday: http://cincinnati.com/blogs/icymi/2013/04/18/kings-island-adding-christian-moerlein-bier-garten/?source=nletter-nletter-entertainment
  3. Stunt Crew hasn't been open at the end of the season for the past 4 years. Instead, a family of butchers commandeer that location and serve meats of more dubious origin!
  4. I just found out about this from Mrs. Gator, who emailed me a few minutes ago. As big of fans as the three of us are of The Brady Bunch, we'll definitely be there! Mrs. Gator is throwing a baby shower for a friend that day, so she's feeling a little anxious that she may not get to see them, but with four shows she probably (hopefully) will get to. We saw them last time they came, and there was a video on Youtube of Mrs. Gator & GatorGirl (and a whole bunch of other people) on stage dancing with them. That was before GatorGirl really knew who they were, but she's a big fan of them now and watches them every Sunday.
  5. All I know is I'll be at opening day, rain or shine. Can't say that the Gatorettes would join me there in the rain, but I'll be there.
  6. Can't wait to see you Gator! I'd say stay for OSU day, Jared and I will be there! Yeah, I saw Jared on Saturday and he said you two were going to OSU day. That got me convinced even more that I really should spend more than one day up north! Good thing I had the foresight to request Friday off too.
  7. I'll miss the old slat covering, which was there when it was Bier Garten (a few of the posts above make it sound like some think that it was added with the conversion to Bubba Gump's/Outer Hanks... not so. I spent many hours in the summers of 1992 & '93 wiping those tables down and sweeping the patio in the shade). Hopefully they replace it with some sort of covering to escape the heat of the summer sun!
  8. No set plans yet. I'd like to head up Weds. night and get to the park for the start of the media events, and I have Friday off work just in case I'm inclined to stay for OSU day on Friday... which I know I already want to go to but I'll have to talk to the wife about that first!
  9. I saw those episodes and wondered what park it was filmed at. I thought HRP was probably it. I thought it interesting because they were on their way to Philadelphia, and at the time of those episodes they would have been in Indiana or western Ohio (since it was before they got to Columbus). The only big parks I can think of in IN and Western OH would be HW and KI, and considering HW doesn't have a big steel coaster like was featured in the episode... hmm, which park would that represent in the story then? Well, it appears that my estimate of what park that might represent was a little off. I was on NBC's website and they have an interactive map where you can trace the characters' progress across the Monroe Republic (http://www.nbc.com/revolution/exclusives/interactive-map/). So I was clicking around to find the amusement park episode, and it was set in Lowell, Indiana, in the NW portion of the state. No park there... And yes, I know it's fictional, but it's nice to try to draw parallels with real life.
  10. Rides Maintenance is definitely one of the unsung departments of the park. They do a lot of hard work that mainly goes underappreciated by the public. Caption under one of the photos: This is actually the park's 42nd season (41st anniversary).
  11. 155 days since my last visit to KI. 134 days since my last visit to a park (Dollywood) and coaster ride (Thunderhead). 24 days, 20 hours and 6 minutes to go...
  12. Man wins $8,000 in damages, judge rules that Disneyland did not notify disabled riders that if "it's a small world" broke down, they could be trapped. http://www.newser.com/story/165143/man-trapped-on-small-world-ride-wins-payout.html and http://blog.sfgate.com/crime/2013/03/26/man-trapped-in-its-a-small-world-wins-suit/
  13. CP does that with their picnic shelters, turning them into Fear Faire.
  14. Sad pictures. It reminds me of a quote I heard while I re-watched The Wiz last year (which I liked as a kid but hadn't seen in years). When Dorothy and Scarecrow meet Tin Man in an abandoned amusement park, one of the first things Tin Man says to them is "There's not much amusement in the closing of an amusement park." I saw those episodes and wondered what park it was filmed at.
  15. I would like to see it go backwards again... Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see it go backwards again too. I LOVED recaR. I was very fired up when the announcment was made that they were making it go forward again in the name of nostalgia. But, as we later learned, it was due to state requirements. Most of us on here understand the reasons it cannot currently go back to backwards operation, I just find it irritating that the GP doesn't know or understand.
  16. We'll make it a double feature, The Partridge Family's "I Left My Heart in Cincinnati" followed by The Brady Bunch's "The Cincinnati Kids", which I have on DVD (yes, I have all five seasons of The Brady Bunch on DVD).
  17. Regarding the Grand Carousel: "The popular family attraction features the 1918 Wurlitzer Duplex band organ" If only that were still the case.
  18. I read that on FB last night. I know I can't be the only one that was annoyed by all the "turn The Racer backwards again!" comments on there.
  19. I checked Antenna TV's website, and there are no carriers locally. There are carriers in Cleveland/Akron, Lexington, Louisville and Indianapolis though. http://www.antennatv.tv/affiliates/ Not that it matters to me, because I have this episode on tape and can watch it any time I want!
  20. Ummm... What if the motor is the problem with the ride? Or there's a prolonged power outage? Or something is wrong with one of the cables? Using the motor to raise & lower the gondola wouldn't be a possibility in those scenarios. Or maybe I'm confused as to what you meant...
  21. Love the logo, and would love a shirt, preferably light gray. I bought one of the old old ones (the one with the original KIC coaster logo) a few years ago and took iron-on letters to add my user name to the back, and I had several people from this site introduce themselves to me at the park. But then after only a few times wearing it, the sunscreen I put on at the park came out of the bottle too fast, I got a nice glob of it on the shirt, which caused a stain that I haven't been able to get out.
  22. Same here. When we were looking for houses, it was very important to me that there not be an HOA (or Home Owner's Association for those of you not familiar with the term). I do not need anyone telling me what color I can paint my house, when I have to have my Christmas lights down by, where I can and cannot plant a tree, or that my grass is .03 centimeters over acceptable limits, all while paying dues to allow them to restrict me.
  23. And yet for years, as CoastersRZ pointed out earlier, there was a Reds shop located in Rivertown where the Olde Time Photos are now. The Reds having a presence in Rivertown is nostalgic! Not all Reds fans love Rose. I have meet him two times and he was not very nice. Back in 1982, my step-father saw him at Lebanon Raceway. He went up to Pete Rose and asked for his autograph, and from what my step-father said he wasn't very friendly at the time (who knows, he could have been having a bad night with the ponies). But our family now possesses Pete Rose's autograph on a Lebanon Raceway program, which is ironic given the trouble that gambling got him into a few years later. I wonder how much that is worth... we'll wait a few decades (once it gets passed down to me or GatorGirl) and take it on Antiques Roadshow (I love that show). Rivertown Junction didn't have ribs and pulled pork on it's buffet. When that building was Wings Diner, and before that, Columbia Palace, it had those items but was counter service. Maybe that is what you were referring to.
  24. Yes, she would. When I told Mrs. Gator & GatorGirl about that, they said they rode Tip Top with you loved it. And I should amend my statement about that being the only time I've had to sit down after a ride to recuperate... that's actually the only time after one ride cycle. I also had to sit down after doing two back-to back cycles on Howler at Idlewild, while the Gatorettes went on for a third. I guess they just have a better capacity for spinning than I do!
