  1. There has been a safety officer in the section of the line under the station every time I have rode this year. Is this where the fights happen?
  2. Did it still only run one train? I honestly don't remember it. I was a teenager then and was not remotely close to being an enthusiast so I would have had no idea the importance of such a thing.
  3. Really, when? I never knew that. Why would you remove it?
  4. This guy just asked if we had tickets. When I said no, He asked how many we needed and then punched it into his little device that printed out a voucher. I was shocked and still expecting to pay parking but then they said that was taken care of too. I just found it very strange they turned away money. If the goal was to get more people into the fair then it probably been a much better idea to give away free tickets to people not already at the gate waiting to get in. It was great for us. Between that, my KK pass and the 10 Kroger tickets I got for the rest of the family we had an ultra cheap day. After this though it did not surprise me too much that the fair did not do well last year. Perhaps they need to do something different to draw people in. The fair has changed very little since I was a kid. Imagine what attendance would have been like without KK being open last year.
  5. Last year I went to the fair with my wife and daughter. I had my money ready to purchase tickets and parking. As I was the next car to enter the tolls I was given tickets for the entire family and parking? That was at least 3 paying customers they did not get money from. Why was this done? At the time I did not care because I saved some money that I eventually spent inside Kentucky Kingdom. The guy was standing out there giving tickets to anyone who did not already have them. He was printing them out from a little machine so I assume he was there in some official capacity. Clearly their paid attendance problems can not all be blamed on KK, or the heat, or the rain.
  6. I see what you are saying yet there could be people that would have gone to the water park anyway, having had to pay for fair admission to do so. Also, It's hot out there in August. Folks might hang around the fair longer if the had a Bay to cool off in and get a second wind. The fair board needs to get as many people through the gates as possible. If they are going to get a cut before people can get to the gate at Kentucky Kingdom, I would think they would want the park full too. Personally without KK, the fair is only a 2-3 hour outing for me and I did not go a single year the park was closed.
  7. The last time I went to KK during fair time when it was the open gate policy was in 2007. Oddly enough, the place was completely deserted. Yet we went last year and there was a decent crowd. They really need to have the full water park open though. Its closure in August baffles me. You would think they could have it open on the weekends if staffing is the issue during the week. At least the wave pool will be open this year. It seems like it would be low hanging fruit to increase attendance as it is a huge draw for the park. As would having a Fall/Halloween event and staying open into October would be. Maybe next year...
  8. This is very scary. It has been a terrible year for Beech Bend. How could that happen indeed?
  9. My money is on her putting her head down and closing her eyes out of fear and then cracking it on the restraint. My daughter has done this on kiddie coasters and I would imagine if some one did the same thing on a full size coaster, especially one with the ejector air that LR has, it would be quite easy to hit your head hard enough to bleed. And when the head bleeds, it bleeds a lot. Please ride in the proper position folks.
  10. Maybe she leaned over and hit it on the restraint. I am surprised the media wasn't all over that...
  11. I was sad to see the German food gone from the Biergarten They need to sell Schmidt's Sausage from Columbus. That stuff is fantastic.
  12. I doubt Racer has anything to worry about for a long time. It seems to be more loved and respected by the park and GP than Thunder Road was. If only they would paint the old girl...I think Rebel Yell is going to be ok too and it looks great in the new/old color scheme.
  13. Personally I would say RMC and major layout changes such as Steel Phantom/Phantom's Revenge would count as a new ride. I can see arguments either way for Mantis/Rougarou but I would lean more to saying that is not a new coaster although it is going to make the ride way different. The rest of that stuff not so much. I can assure you I will never have to worry about counting a Batman backwards...They are plenty enough for me going forward. You are certainly right there is plenty of grey area in classifications but some things would be common sense to most people, but to each their own.
  14. Kennywood's Racer is kind of hard to classify so I will give them a pass on that. You do have to ride it at least twice to get the full experience...I agree with you about the two gravity driven haunted houses. They are by all definitions should be a coaster and it is a crime that there are not more of them left. I remember a portable one being at the Kentucky State Fair back in the 80s. I wonder if there are more of those out there somewhere. Now I am wanting to go to Camden Park again...
  15. I've only ridden Mean Streak once. I did not really find it all that rough, it just wasn't all that fun. Maybe its just perception being that it looks like such an awesome ride and then underwhelms, much like old SOB.
  16. I say two. The website coaster-count.com says it is two so that is good enough for me.
  17. It's better they let her go...Can you imagine them trying to duel them as slow as they are at dispatching trains there...It looks like a fantastic ride though. It would be cool if they some worked in the Lola and Stella names in the station or maybe on the new trains. That would be a fitting tribute.
  18. I like the name. It does keep the storm theme going, plus it could also be a shout back to the old Star Chaser coaster too. It also makes the "Storm the Kingdom" ACE event name sound clever in retrospect. Reminded me a bit of "Camp Rou" at Cedar Point last year for Coaster Camp Out.
  19. It would look a ton better if it was uploaded to YouTube in a higher res. The pics on their site clearly come from the video but are a lot sharper.
  20. A friend of mine attempted the test seat and was not able to get a green light. It has motivated him though. He has lost about 20 pounds since that visit and vows to ride it by the end of the season.
  21. I am a fan of both Boos and Boozefests
  22. Even us married folk end up as single riders sometimes. My wife hates roller coasters. I suppose I should consider myself lucky that she puts up with my hobby. If I don't have another person come with me then I am a single rider...Hopefully that changes when my mini-me gets a little taller. so far she has taken more after Dad in the rides department and not Mom...I hope that continues
  23. I noticed that myself and was wondering the same thing. I bet the themes are changing.
