  1. If we're going to call it Mr T, does it pity the fool? silver2005, asking questions.
  2. I know Kings Island under Paramount was hindered a bit by Cedar Fair limiting them from using certain designers, but I still think there were other reliable designers out there, but Paramount chose to rely too much on prototype rides. Son of Beast and Tomb Raider are both gone, Delirium still has problems each season (though less so than its early life). Sure we got Firehawk under CF, but that was only due to GL biting the dust. We've been lucky with our WindSeeker as well in that it's been nowhere near as problematic as, say, Knott's or CP's versions. Diamondback and Banshee have been great from a reliability standpoint, the Planet Snoopy additions have been solid, and Mystic Timbers should have minor problems in its first year and should be fine after that. Paramount did offer better staffing/training, theming, and got their act together better when it came to promotions and things to aid guests. I thought a lot of the benefits they gave to gold pass holders were done very well. Overall, they were kind of the grey area between how SIX and FUN ran their parks.
  3. Since when did Goble work on the Disney Parks' board?
  4. And stuff like this, ladies and gentlemen, is why Dolly Parton is amazing. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/dolly-parton-announces-aid-to-tennessee-fire-victims_us_583fa0f8e4b09e21702cba3c
  5. Photographers are going to have a field day on the train now.
  6. I would like to think that they would have to extend the brake run because it's got some decent speed as it's finishing. At the very least they would have to add trims prior to those brakes.
  7. GCI has been posting update on their Facebook page, but nothing that we haven't already seen yet (most pictures are of the lift).
  8. So it appears that we will be relying on KI's and GCI's social media outlets for the remainder of this construction due to the cameras not in positions to show the rest of the layout very well.
  9. This is just a giant kick to the childhood for me. I absolutely love hanging out in Gatlinburg, and now with Hillbilly Golf in ashes, its just heartbreaking, additionally so with the lives affected and the damage to the national park. I hope this thing doesn't gut downtown Gatlinburg.
  10. Right now with the rain, there's this film of water on the Diamondback cam lens which is making watching a bit trippy.
  11. I wonder how feasible it would be to put water fountains or some sort of water source at ride entrances and/or exits. Not actually in the lines as that would cause problems.
  12. I wanna see a link and, if possible, construction photos. I don't believe for a second that this was built on a single concrete slab (especially considering some footings are in water). If it were, why are there so many trees close to the track?
  13. Banshee and Firehawk's entire queues and Diamondback's lower queue could be better shaded.
  14. I still quite enjoy Vortex now.
  15. ^I wasn't saying they couldn't do it, I was just answering King Ding Dong's dispute on how the added height would increase lift angle. If you draw a right triangle representing the existing structure and then add height to it without increasing the horizontal distance, much like RMC is doing by using Mean Streak's existing lift structure to add height using the same area, the angle of the diagonal line goes up. I'm aware they will be adding to the structure for added stability, they've done it on every single Iron Horse conversion.
  16. Well, even if it were smooth, it was such a boring, force-less layout with nothing but really drawn out laterals.
  17. ^Uh...RCCA is pretty much disbanded and Paramount Parks is also no more. Those are really the only 2 parties seriously involved with it, so I don't get what you said about those who worked on it still being in the business. The individuals who were in CF at the time of the park's purchase were just trying to work with what they got and SOB was certainly a unique situation to try and salvage.
  18. I rode it all through its life. I first rode it on a special season pass holder night that occurred later in the 2000 season due to its delays. 2000-2006- I thought it was alright, but only in the first 2 rows. Anything behind that wasn't worth it for me. It was extremely uncomfortable- very rattly with a rough bounce. The first drop and loop were the only redeeming parts of the ride. Other than the rattle and a ton of laterals (all it had was the first drop, loop, 2 helices and a carousel curve). It had absolutely no airtime because there were no hills dedicated to such, a major downside for a wooden coaster to have. I only rode it once or twice a visit. 2006-2009- I only rode it once post-loop removal and I absolutely hated it. The pacing suffered from the lighter trains and that also meant it was way more rough. It honestly felt like it was going to stall at any moment or if there was a good gust of wind. I'm very glad for the superb B&M inverted coaster in its place.
  19. When they make the lift taller using the exisiting structure, they need to increase the angle of the lift because they have to go get to that higher point in the same space it took the original lift to make it to the lower height. If they used the existing lift angle to reach that higher lift, they'd have to extend it which would put the drop right into the fan turn and the rest of the layout would require more significant overhaul than that because you'd push all the elements further back.
  20. I think Banshee and Diamondback went over slightly better for their openings than SOB, especially considering the B&M coasters weren't having downtime issues like SOB had. SOB would be up there along with Firehawk and Flight of Fear. Top Gun was fair, and bottoming out I'd put Face/Off and IJST.
  21. When the ride craving thread starts to get tons of posts.
  22. ^Given the rest of the layout, I'm not that worried.
  23. Absolutely terrible, and I only went twice this past season. I will be leaning to eat outside the park for a while until I see positive change- quicker lines, employees who aren't deer in headlights, and better quality of food.
  24. I hope they put a camera in view of the turn around going up. I'd love to see one of those telltale GCI high banked curves go up.
  25. ^I can just feel the glares coming from that post.
