I can still remember vividly seeing FC operating on my first visit to Kings Island in July of '92. I remember thinking that there was no way I was getting on that. Looked really intimidating. I had no idea of the very sad situation that happened on it the year earlier. I didn't know anything about that until I learned it on here just a few years ago. Thanks for sharing all those details. In case you're wondering who Christian Moerlein is…(I was): http://www.christianmoerlein.com/main.html

I'm stunned, really.

I thought it was going to be a coaster the first time I rode it.

I'm seriously thinking about it.

Thanks so much for posting those pics. I visited the park as a kid once in 1975, but don't remember it. It's so interesting to see what was in the park at that time, and what I may have seen or rode at the time!

I'm not sure how close this is to SoB's spot…but you can see how hilly it was during the time of LCS:
-
I wonder how important it is to Kings Island to have something take SoB's place in the skyline…it sure is going to look empty.

I'd like to see a modern flume come to the park, but (from what I've heard) I wouldn't want it to shoot the rapids.

I've noticed that this thread and Kings Island's "photo of the day" have mirrored each other at times!

For comparison, here's that area in 1992:

Or a diversion from one?

The view from that webcam has changed fairly recently, though.

Luckily it was low enough that the unfortunate WindSeekers could be reached. I bet they wouldn't let something like that happen today...

I got to ride some of the rides pictured a couple years later, in 1975…if only I could remember it!

I looked it up at KD's website…is that Shenandoah Lumber Company? When/what did they do to it? Not much detail on KD.com.

October of 2005:

SoB gone...DoT gone...AZ water tower...gone. AZ rumors, Oktoberfest rumors, WindSeeker(s) speculation, diversions, planes...what a great off-season "season" this has developed into!

Here are the 'tiques on September 5, 2004 (rode them that day too)

For a few years, that was my favorite thing in the park.

What we have here (for the first time in a long time) is a gen-u-ine off-season mystery!
-
How cool would be be to be able to rummage through the areas where they have all the old stuff hidden away?
-
I have read several posts in the past about the cost of fuel being a reason to take out DoT (and also the antique cars). I wouldn't think that the cost of fuel for those rides would even scratch the surface of the cost of electricity to yank the many-ton coaster trains up a lift hill.

Fantastic pics! I never get tired of seeing pics of the park from these years. It's really hard to fathom.
