  1. But those U-Turn lanes only turn green/red when a car is approaching them. So its not like its on a timer. Only thing I wish for the Bypass was that you could turn right on red from the curb lane.
  2. Route 4 runs from the 275 belt loop up through part of Fairfield out to Hamilton and then up to Middletown. The bypass cuts from the Route 4 in Fairfield to Route 4 between Middletown and Hamilton. It's literally a bypass around Hamilton. Some people don't like it because to improve traffic flow, the road has a few U-turns needed to cross over Bypass4. I really have 0 problems with the traffic flow. It's a bit different but works just fine. My only issue is with drivers who can't stay in their own turning lane and drift into mine. Sent from my SM-T520 using Tapatalk
  3. Lets be honest. If there was a hierarchy of important things to news reporters, amusement parks is pretty low on the list.
  4. Journalists are not experts in roller coasters or amusement parks in general. Probably, someone called it in, or a reporter was on scene. The immediate reaction is to get the story up. If its nothing, no one loses their job. If its a real problem, then well if you are late to putting it on air, you will get reprimanded by your boss. More so if they find that you sat on the story. Well the two smoking incidents were considered to be semi-real news. So if something else happens, this will help create more clicks to their website. I think your giving the news outlet far too much credit. IMHO, the people reporting this likely know as much about roller coasters as the general public and that is why it is "news". Absolutely. Also dont forget, that many times reporters or anchors may not always be from the same area that they broadcast in. Its a very very rare thing to have anchors, come from the town and make it onto the station and stay on the station in their home towns. Cincinnati is in a top 35 market of over 200 markets (I believe Dayton is in top 90?). The fact that you can turn on a station and have people who grew up in Cincinnati, on air is amazing. But not all talent is like that. The Bob Herzog, Bob/Rob Braun, Etc growing up and presenting the news to us here is unique. Many times, a person doing a year or so here may have grown up in NY or California, etc.
  5. And never mind.. Double post... but thanks to Standbyme's most awesome thread... http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php/topic/24760-standing-within-3-feet-of-1974/ My answers have been found... Just thought I would post it to show others my crazy
  6. Thanks. Not going to lie, anti-climatic I was hoping for the Flintstone Car photo op... I dont ever recall going into the Enchanted Theater back in the day. Thanks Upstop. Now I just want to locate the position of the original Smurf Bench. Also, where was the Flintstone car? I know it was near the Turnpike ride, but for the life of me I cant remember where that was. Was it near where the kiddy train ride is now?
  7. Probably is now, but I doubt it being so close to the kiddy area. I was just taken aback by it because if you see in the photo it has a brick wall built around the "pad." Which makes me think it was around the time of the remodel of the area. If you look on the photo there is a break in the bricks closest to us (not just the part that goes with the patch to CarnEvil. This broken part has a sidewalk that ends in the grass.... The best I can sort of figure from looking at old pictures would be similar to this older look, borrowed from the KIC website, see watermark. The pad is in about the same spot where the queu appears to be.
  8. And how often is there a reporter who may be there on an off day and sees it. Calls it in and someone puts it on the big board... Following the last few weeks and what happened at FoF expect more of this. As long as it gets "clicks" then it will keep happening...
  9. When was that?? Is it just me or they seem to have gotten worse over the last decade? I remember the days that followed the SOB incident, news media were like turkey vultures. And again at SeaWorld Orlando following the February 2010 incident, I remember Manta making news headlines when it e-stopped on its lift which was a few days later. Manta I seen few times prior e-stop on the lift and it didn't make the news. -,- Guess its cause of this social media garbage. Back in the day (mid to late 90s and early 2000 was the biggest boom for TV, before stations cut people, quickly), TV/Radio stations had multiple people working, that was just the locals. Not to count the cable guys who had just started throwing their weight around. In TV, the way it used to work would be.... The News Director, meets with his producerS (notice the s), who would pitch stories or ideas. The producer who had already met with his/her news team which would include reporters had the stories. The ND and the producer would build the show. You had a reporter AND a videographer. Not to be confused with an investigative reporter, a lifestyles reporter, sports, etc etc etc. The reporter and videographer already have information from research. The reporter who go collect interviews and put together a story. With so many people working 1 reporter would only need to do 2-3 stories a day. A video editor would receive the tape from the videographer and edit the story together. An editor would also be available as well as a fact checker. Now you have a ND and maybe 1-2 producers who work multiple shows. The producer will write the script while the single to sometimes 2 reporters are collecting 7-12 stories each day, plus their big weekly story. You may have 2-3 videographers who are also your video editors. The new digital age has also made it much harder to collect stories and be timely. By the time a story is videod, edited, and aired, a raw YouTube video may get 2000 or more hits.... Dont get me started on the decimation that happened behind the camera in a newsroom... KI is big news in this area. People are becoming numb to news stories about murder and crime. If you can read about a ride or the park after it got all this attention earlier in the year. More clicks/eyeballs to the story means more advertising dollars. No longer is it about the news, but its about what will get the most viewers.
  10. Yes that's now I'm more thinking what was it before. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. That makes more sense. Thanks for the clarification Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Why do you say the "Era of the 'studio' park is over?" Islands of Adventure has always had themed lands since its inception. Universal has also had "themed" areas, maybe not to a certain one character but to a part of the country (New York jumps to mind). Many people enjoy watching shows. That, I would guess, makes up a bigger crowd than the ones who come in for rides. If I am not mistaken the behind the scenes tour in Hollywood is still there, they just not make you part of the movie versus seeing sets? Would I be against, a retheme to bring in more Star Wars stuff, no way. I think it would be great. But I dont think you will see the studio park just disappear...
  13. Amen^^ if you would have told me when I was younger I would have as much joy watching my son ride rides as I have when I ride I would have thought you were crazy Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. For part one that is FC old queue house. To ride that ride you went up through the center of the ride platform via a staircase that has been filled in with concrete. The current "entrance" is actually the old ride exit for FC.For the other concrete pad I would need more of a location description. It might be a photo op location where a Flintstone car was located. I can't be certain without more info. Located between BBOBH and the pumpkin coaster Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk EDIT: Added So we arrived right before the storm with the plan to eat dinner in the Festhaus and watch the Boy Band show.... It was deafening in there. So much so, that we turned right around and went to Skyline around the corner... I would love to watch that show, but if its always that loud in there, no way Jose...
  15. Two random what we're they questions. Next to the old Flight Commander is what appears is an old covered queue house, was this FC's queue? If so, I thought the entrance was on the Dinosaurs Alive side and not the arcade side. How did that work? Second question is in Planet Snoopy. Between the Boo Blasters and the kiddie coaster is a flat covered pad with a side walk that now ends in grass. What was that for? Sent from my SM-T520 using Tapatalk
  16. I have always been a cooler packer or a run to the local fast food guy. This year I went out on a limb and bought the meal plan. With a little one its so much easier to take a small break in the park than walking 10-15 mins out to the car for a bite to eat. However, without the plam, I am sure I would not be eating in the park for meals. Sent from my SM-T520 using Tapatalk
  17. Nice trip! I can't wait (well I can ad do want to) till little shark is tall enough, I think it will be around the 2020/2021 season (when he is 6/7) that we will be riding Beast and others together). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. Well Adventure Express would have fit the original theme of the areaish around it. King Cobra, AE, Lion Country.... Then it went Actiony and the theme got lost...
  19. I would much rather not waiting at all but I can afford that option:) I believe the stopwatch on your phone. Minimal time to me is 15-30 seconds per ride. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. I actually used your numbers and used "wait time" versus capacity. This time we will use your numbers of 110 (current) -95 (ideal?) gives us about a 15 second difference. Still using your 36 trains per hour that you mentioned above, you are adding about 540 seconds or 9 minutes on to your hourly wait. So if seat belts honestly were slowing things down we are talking about, on average 9 minutes/hour, or roughly 1/6th of an hour. Spreading this out through a 10 hour day, you are looking at a total time difference of 90 minutes. Sooo again 90 minutes extra per day divided by an average of 3 mins (again the supposed time of a DB train) you are looking at now 30 less trains per day, or 3 less trains per hour. Again not talking Dispatch times. Talking the suppose wait being added by seat belts would be 9 mins / hour. A 30 minute wait would not be 34:30, a 60 minute wait would not be 69 minutes. Thats if you are talking only about seat belts.... As some on here have stated, they feel that their time has increased by double or triple. So I am to suggest this. Either capacity has been effected minimally and it only feels like a longer wait, so it is nothing more than your mind playing games on you. Or there are other factors to it than the seat belt game. It could be some of the following reasons: Bins Staffing Fast Lane Etc....
  21. Correlation does not mean causation... Just because B happened does not mean its caused by A. Numbers dont match. Secondly taking your guestimate "average" of 9 seconds per train and your average of 36 trains per hour you are looking at a grand total of 324 seconds or an additional 5 minutes per hour, or on total of a 10 hour day, just about 50 minutes added to the whole day. If your average DB ride time is 3 minutes, that means about 16 less trains are being dispatched every ten hours or roughly 2 (1.6) trains per hour.... Banshee is listed as a 2:40 ride while DB is a 3 minute ride, Banshee also moves (supposedly) 30 more people per hour.... I would guess those are in ideal situations. I have not timed a Banshee roll in and roll out but I would guess its about half the time as DB and Banshee has seat belts.... Lets say it again.... Correlation does not mean causation!!!
  22. The following is from a person who is not a lawyer, and should not be considered in any way shape or form legal advice. For Legal advice please contact an appropriate person..... Reading through the agreement it looks like the best of both worlds for Disney, at least on face value. To the best of my information, the only Universal Studios that has a Marvel Universe is Orlando. Which may mean that Disney (appears) is free to use Marvel Characters/rides/etc in any other park. Even in direct competition with a Universal Studios. Since MCA (Universal at the time) did not develop other Marvel lands during the specified time points. Marvel (Disney) receives the following from Universal: % of merchandise sale licensing fee 10,000 square foot store to sell goods final rights on how their characters are portrayed Advertising in Comic Books (which is a big deal in this day and age) Marvel can terminate for any of the following reasons The land is not open (so they cant cut into the land, make smaller, etc) They feel their characters are being represented they feel they are not at a percentage of advertising that was part of the contract Its a very interesting contract to read. All in all, Disney does not have to pay to maintain a Marvel Land in Orlando, but they get the benefits of the income. If Disney/Marvel wanted to they could throw their weight around and potentially be a stickler to the contract. Universal must keep the Marvel Universe open or risk losing the characters. I did find this part to be the most interesting: Let me flex my nerd muscles for a moment: The current families being used are as follows: Fantastic Four (The Doom ride) which includes, Galactus, Silver Surfer, and few others Spiderman (The Amazing Spidey ride) which includes an entire truckload of villains and supporting characters including Kingpin (arcade) (which may mean that Universal owns Daredevil and Punisher as well) X-Men (Storm and Magneto rides/places) the merry band of mutants includes about 200 characters. Avengers (Captain America Cafe and Incredible Hulk) this gives Universal access to the Avengers which includes ol' tin head (Iron Man) and the god of thunder Thor. Along with respected villains and side characters. Sooooooo knowing my Marvel Universe that leaves the following characters/stuff available: Guardians of the Galaxy Blade Howard the Duck Deadpool (he was in a Wolverine movie, but never really an X-Men) Ka-Zar (but has been visited by X-Men) So not many crowd pleasers/family friendlies in that bunch.... http://thedisneyblog.com/2013/06/14/theme-park-wars-forgotten-chapter-the-marvel-universe/ Option B would be awesome. I dont see it happening but it would be great. From partaking in the movies/comics/and theme parks, I personally dont see a big push by Disney to reacquire, in the short term, its missing Marvel properties. Fox and Sony keep producing movies of their characters. This puts more money in the house of mouse. Universal Studios keeps paying its biggest rival more money to use its properties. Disney wins, we win sort of.
  23. Ya know.. I rewrote Dinosaurs Alive to have the right capitalization because I thought, "Oh I dont want to be caught for improper capitalization".... D'Oh! I never even thought about the WW part...
  24. Don't forget Disney gets paid just to have another park promote their goods. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
