^ Funny business? At Cedar Fair? Hopefully you'd get approval. Lest someone get in trouble. -
Decoding Episode II: Rivertown 2017 and the Falling Trees
malem replied to jcgoble3's topic in Kings Island
They did learn, after Gatekeeper's entire website leaked in advance of the announcement. Parts of the real Banshee site didn't leak until the morning of announcement day. Cedar Fair's web team knows by now that fans like to read CSS files and guess URLs. -
Decoding Episode II: Rivertown 2017 and the Falling Trees

That was close. Interestingly enough, Banshee details were leaked in exactly the same way. On the other hand, the park has been known to leave hidden images & pages on their site for testing layouts and/or teasing curious fans. Recall a 199' B&M wing coaster named The Bat... Tease, mistake, or layout test? Regardless, people are talking about KI 2017! -
Is The Coaster Crew the best club for me?
malem replied to kingsislandfan1972's topic in Coaster Clubs
Platinum is currently their only membership option. The "upgrade" option is for people with an older, non-platinum membership who want to upgrade. New members, as well as those needing to renew, should select the platinum (not upgrade) option. -
Is The Coaster Crew the best club for me?
malem replied to kingsislandfan1972's topic in Coaster Clubs
Coaster club ERT is generally only for special events, and you must register for an event to qualify for any ERT. Your membership allows you to register for club-sponsored and some park-sponsored events. Additionally, some parks may grant members of certain coaster clubs access to season passholder ERT even without a season pass. You'd need to check with your club and/or with the individual park. Coaster Crew has a members-only discounts page that lists any benefits applicable at each partner park. -
Kennywood: Large Fight
malem replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Incident involving gunfire tonight in West Mifflin. PA near Kennywood but off park property. http://www.wpxi.com/news/police-respond-to-report-of-shots-fired-near-kennywood-park/307088459 -
The Cincinnati Enquirer has a great article that takes a closer look at Coasterstock and some of the 403 park fans & enthusiasts who gathered there last weekend. http://www.cincinnati.com/story/entertainment/2016/05/27/could-you-ride-kings-islands-Banshee-2000-times/84808760/

Note that in the waterpark, only all-day lockers are available. With a family of 6, the convenience may be worth the rental fee. Personally, I leave valuables (wallet, phone) in my car and get a handstamp so that I don't need to carry a pass/ticket. My car key stays tethered to the inside of my swimsuit pocket. The shirt & shoes I bring into the waterpark are worth less than the locker rental fee; I usually leave them under a chair. There's a separate entrance from the parking lot. It's very convenient to park near this entrance and be directly in the waterpark. You can also get there via a walking path from Planet Snoopy or by riding the train from Rivertown.

Prior to 2015, International Street LaRosa's routinely stayed open after park close. I haven't seen that happen since.

2015 TEA/AECOM Global Attractions Attendance Report
malem replied to malem's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
The report was updated, resulting in the filename changing. I changed the link to direct to the page where the report can be downloaded from, rather than direct linking to the PDF. Zoombezi Bay is still spelled "Zoomezi Bay". -
Remember to breathe while going down the slide. Right after the drop, it's easy to forget. The faint of heart may want to avoid looking down before dispatch. Having avoided spoilers, it was shocking at first. Also, small movements are quickly amplified on a fast body slide, so do be sure to hold the correct riding position until the end, head firmly back against the slide. Don't be like me and hit your head halfway down. (Luckily, I didn't hit it hard. But don't do that.)

HoliWood Nights & CoasterMania 2016
malem replied to malem's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Hey, I get excited at coaster events. I'll admit that I can sometimes get carried away. With the exception of the scavenger hunt & night ERT, I was actually trying to behave at Kings Island. You all should see how I do Cedar Point when I'm by myself... My Galaxy S5 Active does track steps, so I'll let you know how many I end up taking. (Coasterstock weekend, Fri-Sun, was 108090 plus however many steps I took while my phone was in the car for Soak City.) -
They presumably won't be entering Kings Island for a very long time, if ever.

HoliWood Nights & CoasterMania 2016
malem replied to malem's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Having paid in advance for an event with capped attendance, I would be rather upset if they let a bunch of unregistered people overcrowd lunch & ERT. -
HoliWood Nights & CoasterMania 2016
malem replied to malem's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
CoasterMania had a quick ticket release that was guaranteed to sell out, committing many to Sandusky. I'd expect better ERT at both events than in recent, previous years. Where I go depends partially on whether another GOCC member ends up wanting to use my still-unassigned CoasterMania ticket. -
HoliWood Nights & CoasterMania 2016
malem replied to malem's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
HoliWood Nights online registration has been extended through this Saturday. No, I still haven't made up my mind. Whether my procrastination will be taxed remains to be seen. -
Hopefully the sundaes aren't free. Free food for all passholders would likely mean lines long enough to keep people from enjoying the event.

When Heinz mustard was introduced, many Heinz partners switched to it. Heinz recently rolled out a new line of barbecue sauces.

Believe me, I'm exhausted as well. According to my phone, I took steps totaling 69.3mi this weekend. Plus countless rides & even some swimming in the deserted wave pools on Saturday. I slept very well last night.

^ Those footings are from gas light fixtures that have been removed. ohiocolts, aandjgoods & I scoured nearly every public path of the park looking for the one with the bent bolt. (On the plus side, we got lots of exercise!) It turns out that was an old picture, and the bolt is no longer bent over like that. The correct footing, which Daniel identified despite the diversion, was in plain sight in the mulch of The Bat's exit path.

35+ hours at Kings Island, separated only by 8-hour sleeping breaks, and I enjoyed every minute. Thanks everyone! The scavenger hunt was cool, even though my team (and everyone else) got destroyed by 27yankfan. (Congrats, Dan!) Hopefully we see more ideas like this at enthusiast events. Lots of riding is great, but some variety really enhances the event.

I redeemed dining plan meals at Kings Island three days in a row at Coasterstock, and I must say that there has been a marked improvement in food service from the first few weeks of operation. Lines at most locations moved quickly, and each meal I redeemed was freshly prepared and served hot. Service was friendly, as well. There's still room for improvement, but there has been a huge step forward from the early weeks of the season.
