Decoding Episode II: Rivertown 2017 and the Falling Trees
malem replied to jcgoble3's topic in Kings Island
Maverick operated at least part of yesterday. Did it go down again, or were they referring to Mean Streak, which has so far been closed all season? -
Rainy days can be good days to visit KI. Most everything remains operating, and crowds are thin when the skies clear. Hopefully this year's lanyards are more water resistant than last year's. Rain isn't ideal for a trek through The Beast woods, of course; hopefully conditions are dry for the tour.

I'm assuming you postponed your trip till Wednesday ? Indeed. I'm not a fan of waiting around for things to (maybe) open. -

High winds have been responsible for its closure the past few days. It can be a lot stronger at 420' than at ground level. -
13/15, not bad!

I assume you're the one who just asked that on PointBuzz? I once rode Maverick the day after it valleyed. It wasn't open for Early Entry, but it was open by the afternoon. Apparently, all coasters except TTD were running today. I'll be there Wednesday as well. -
Get there first thing on Preview Weekend then, before the thousands of park patrons!
-
One thing I've never understood is why rain drives patrons from water parks in droves. It's not like people are trying to stay dry.

^ Kings Island did in 2014. $12 on weekdays, $15 on weekends.

In the context of forestry, that would refer to the boundary of an area to be cleared of all trees. (As opposed to marking individual trees for removal.) -
^ When a dining plan meal is redeemed, the POS system "charges" a reduced price for the meal, which is then "paid for" by the dining plan. I'm not sure how the internal accounting or revenue distribution works. There sometimes are glitches; Reds Grille almost charged us the ~$7 "price" after the dining plan credit failed to show up. Another time, a 10% season pass discount was applied to the dining plan "price", confusing everyone with a check that came out negative.

^ I do tend to be fairly tolerant of extreme temperatures, yes. I've never been a fan of coats, going back to when I was a kid. Perhaps I built up a tolerance of sorts. I do take care to avoid frostbite, hypothermia, and heat exhaustion; those are nothing to mess around with.
-
^^ So far this season, Reds Hall of Fame Grille and Rivertown Potato Works have been operating well.

I went the following day, when temperatures eventually made it to the 60s. Since I was one of a very small number of people there, I did all the slides multiple times in about 3 hours. If I recall correctly, Sunday had a few hundred total waterpark admissions, while Saturday had about 12. Speaking from experience, it was nothing compared to doing Haunt until 1am with downpouring rain & 43° wearing shorts & a t-shirt. That was cold.
-
^ Since Tropical Plunge has 6 different slides, chilly weather might present an opportunity to ride them all without a long wait. The high temperature was 57 for Zoombezi Bay's Opening Day in 2014. The current forecast is balmy in comparison.

Coasterstock isn't the only event this weekend; Soak City's gold & platinum passholder preview is happening May 21-22. All waterpark attractions are scheduled to be open, 11am-8pm both days. Who plans to be there? To continue my streak of being among the first public riders on new KI attractions, I plan to get there at open on Saturday. Weather has been known to delay Soak City opening and/or close it early, so I suggest keeping an eye on the forecast & announcements from the park. Temperatures may be slightly cool if you believe the extended forecast.

Glad that rides opened & you had a good time! Coaster riding in the snow on Sunday, outdoor waterslides open the following Saturday. Only in Ohio.

Problems posting in one of the threads...

Try using the BB code editor instead of CK Editor. Click the lightswitch button in the upper left corner of the post editing toolbar to switch back and forth. You might also try using another browser. It's possible that the limit on the number of images per post has been reduced since April 2013. A moderator could assist in that case. -
Notwithstanding the forecast, it's more windy now than it was yesterday. Apparently, the only coaster open is Wicked Twister. Winds might decrease somewhat this afternoon, so hang in there! For any KIC people braving today, I'd be curious to know how windy it is at 200' or 300'. Some ride crews will tell you.
-
I'll make a decision when I get up in the morning, but as of now, it looks like Wednesday for me. The wind forecast is still dangerously close to tolerances for major rides.
-
You got to ride, I hope?
-
How are operations tonight with respect to the wind? Trying to make a decision about whether to go tomorrow or hold off again.
