  1. Kings Island has no coasters in my top 5 wooden coasters (though perhaps that will change this year) and 1 coaster in my top 5 steel (Vortex). KK has two of my top 5 steel and one of my top 5 wood. So, take Vortex out of Kings Island, and there's a clear winner... Heck, removal of Vortex might make me agree with the general consensus that Cedar Point has a better coaster lineup than KI... But let's not get carried away.
  2. If Vortex goes, so does my season pass. I'm honestly not joking. I would never swear off KI for good, but I'd be a once every few years sort of guest rather than a 15-20 times a year guest (who typically spends at least some money each visit) Get rid of Vortex, and Kentucky Kingdom will overnight have a better coaster lineup than KI in my humble opinion, and will become my new home park.
  3. If the park wants me to not immediately assume they are guilty, then they need to work on not having such a spectacularly bad safety record. It is seriously the scariest park I've ever visited for all the wrong reasons. Visit the park and you'll understand why I feel that way. Perhaps the fences should have been more difficult to climb. Perhaps security should have been faster to notice there was someone in the restricted area and respond. It's similar to the Harambe thing... Everyone defended the zoo, but the inspection later ended up proving that the fence was not up to spec with modern standards. I'll admit that there's little to no evidence to suggest it's the park's fault, but when they've proven that complete and utter negligence for the safety of their guests is part of their style of running the park, I'm inclined to assume that it applies here too. Unfair to them? Maybe. But they've earned a reputation that's going to plague them until they fix it.
  4. I'll be honest. I feel as if negligence on the part of the park is somehow involved. Mount Olympus has now made headlines three times in the last three years because of serious safety issues in their park. Having been there, I'm truly flabbergasted that it's ONLY been three. Of the 40+ amusement parks I've visited, they are the sketchiest by a MILE. I've ridden a coaster from the 1930s at a park that's been fighting bankruptcy for the better part of a decade (specifically, Blue Streak at Conneaut Lake), and that felt INFINITELY safer and exponentially better maintained than any of the ones at Mount Olympus. I am a lover of all things Wisconsin. In fact, I'm wearing a Brewers shirt as I type this and have the Green Bay Packers subreddit open in another tab. But with the exception of Bay Beach (which I literally walked into, rode Zippin Pippin, and left), no amusement park in Wisconsin has ever left me feeling at all good about my visit. I feel really bad for the family. I do not feel bad for the park. It may be unfair to assume they are liable with no details of the incident, but their reputation precedes them and as far as I'm concerned, Mount Olympus is guilty until proven innocent any time something bad happens at their park.
  5. I would highly recommend a desktop instead. Yeah, you lose portability, but a laptop with enough power to play a current-gen game in any remotely enjoyable way is going to be very expensive, very loud, and in all likelihood run very hot. I would instead recommend building/buying a gaming desktop and then getting a low-end cheap laptop to use Steam in-home streaming if you want to be able to play from anywhere in your home. I think they are just giving examples of cards that come in a 4GB variety. The game definitely does not need a 980, as I can run it at 1080p ultrawide at a consistent 60 Hz with no frame drops at all on my 960.
  6. They could make the option with the cups available as well as the all-season drink pass and give people who already purchased the option of redeeming for one or the other. I would say that perhaps they could do both, give you a cup but also allow you to swipe your pass, but I think that would open the door to fraud wherein someone could buy it and then give their cup to someone else, effectively resulting in them having TWO drink plans. You could also just make it where per day, you can use one or the other but not both. That would effectively be no different than what they have now, as I have definitely loaned out my all-season souvenir cup to friends and family who I knew were visiting the park.
  7. I've had conversations like this at work before: Me: "We should do it X way, it will work better" Boss: "No, that's not how our customers will want that to work. We should do it Y way." Me: "Alright, since that's how you want it, I'll do it like Y" (weeks pass) Boss: "We're getting complaints about the way this module works. Why didn't we do it like X?" Me (smiling on the outside, raging on the inside): "I'm not sure. I'll fix it to work like that." It happens to the best of us...
  8. ^ they'd have to add a transfer track. It doesn't have one so if they did that, there would be no way to remove a train from the tracks if it malfunctioned or if it just wasn't needed due to lighter crowds.
  9. ^ Timberliners are the most uncomfortable coaster trains I've ever ridden, and I've ridden a Chance Toboggan coaster. (And Whizzer with a close childhood friend, though that's a completely different sort of uncomfortable ) I'm glad I haven't renewed my season pass yet, because if I found out that they had rendered my favorite ride in the park completely unenjoyable, I'd be pretty bummed to have spent the money on a season pass. I think I'll wait until we get more details on that train before I renew. I wonder how hard/expensive it would be to retrofit a transfer track onto the ride so that it could run two trains?
  10. Just used the measuring tool in Google Maps on the one at SFStL and its width is in that ballpark (therefore so is its height since they're circular).
  11. An RMC conversion and a Larson Loop in back-to-back years?! Looks like SFKK is back, at least in spirit!
  12. That's precisely what it is. It's not hidden very well at all. Anyone who knows where to look can spot it clear as day from the road.
  13. They have a big ride lying in pieces in a field across the street from the park. Whether it is in any easily maintainable condition, that may be another story...
  14. I visited Universal on a beautiful October Saturday and the longest line I waited in was 35 minutes for Hulk. Granted, MCO had been closed the two days prior because of Hurricane Matthew, which no doubt contributed to greatly reduced crowds.
  15. And I thought my girlfriend was weird for thinking pepperoni is too spicy...
  16. ^ I mean, in theory, it could be abused by someone getting two meals in less than four hours without them getting caught, unless of course, they were also logging times. Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  17. I don't know what all is entailed in a moderating role, so this may be out of the scope of what you're looking for entirely, but I should add that in addition to everything that's already been said, malem has technical knowledge that could be useful in helping to run this site as well. Just as a recent example (and I hope he won't mind my sharing this), we were recently discussing the idea of capturing stills from the Mystic Timbers webcam similar to what I had set up for Banshee a few years ago, and the script that he had written and showed to me was far more robust than what I had thrown together when I did the Banshee captures. I don't know if the role of moderator would allow for any influence on the technical side of things, but he certainly has those skills too. For that reason as well as what's already been said, I think malem would be a good choice. I have also met Hoeter and Oldiesmann a few times and can vouch for both of them, at least as far as a character reference. I can't vouch for whether or not they have previous experience in moderating forums or any similar thing, but they are both people of great character who I think would do well in such a position. Now, to bring up someone else. Given that he's already posted in this thread and not nominated himself, he probably isn't interested in the job, but let me give a recommendation of TombRaiderFTW. We've never met in person (that I'm aware of) but he has always been someone whose posts I enjoy reading and who seems to always have something productive to contribute to the conversation. He's one of the members who I remember as being very active when I joined the site back in 2010, and there are depressingly few active posters left who I remember from that time.
  18. If adding FunPix, I would be leery of renewing through a park other than one's home park. This year, FunPix was a per-park add-on. Have we gotten confirmation that this has changed for this season? Also, if the foreign transaction fees are only a percent or two, you still stand to save some money. Also be aware that buying from CWo with a payment plan is a gamble because the exchange rate is subject to change. I don't see the Canadian Dollar surpassing the US dollar in value over the next nine months given recent trends with the exchange rate, but one cannot ignore the possibility. We are in an election season, so things of that nature can potentially be shaken up seemingly overnight depending on the political landscape.
  19. So, as I found out just now, you can, in fact renew a Kings Island Platinum Pass via the Canada's Wonderland website and keep the same card. Do be aware, however, that which renewal bonuses you receive is dependent upon which park you renew through. I don't particularly want a Fast Lane Plus for a Sunday in fall, so for me, renewing through Canada's Wonderland was the best choice.
  20. So, I wonder if anyone noticed this... https://twitter.com/wildwaterfun/status/753371109781889025?lang=en
  21. You can re-scan your pass to enter Cedar Point. I was there this weekend and one member of my party had their stamp wash off. They were able to reenter without an issue.
  22. Strictly speaking, most coasters at Kings Island and elsewhere say in the rules to "keep hands down and inside car at all times". So this is already a policy on most coasters. It's just not generally enforced often.
  23. Not all Millennium Flyer lap bars automatically lower, or possibly, the auto-lowering is an adjustable setting. I've ridden several of them and most, but not all, auto-lowered. Renegade, Thunderhead, and American Thunder have automatically lowering bars. Prowler did not on the day that I visited.
  24. Given that pretty much anything under the sun has been guessed by at least one person, I'd assume that some part of it has been guessed by someone. I'd imagine what Don meant is that nobody got it completely right.
