I just want to say I had a great night last night! I braved the crowds and ended up doing all the mazes, minus Blackout and Urgent Scare, simply because of long lines (towards the end of the night, Urgent Scare's line was still pretty full). I really enjoyed seeing all my Scareactor friends, but I couldn't quite track down The Overlord. I did see Sam, of course (I went through Slaughter House 3 times). I also ran into the Undertaker, who seems to have a smaller role year. As for the mazes, they seemed better and scarier than last Friday- Wolf Pack got me a few times, Chaos was pretty dark (but then again, I was the second person to go through that night- I was told that it was dark as "we don't want you seeing things" lol) and I ended up running into 2 people who knew me in Field of Screams. Killmart was also pretty fun and they got me a few times the first time I went through (Fun Fact: one of the greeters for Killmart was formally the "Wizard Lizard"). Though I did not see Blood Drums, I did attend a meet and greet, which was cool. I did see Haunted Homecoming and it was just meh- I thought the song choices were a little unusual, but the makeup was good! The only ride I rode last night was The Bat, due to the aforementioned long lines.

I have that same book! I love the ride bios (especially Stealth, Volcano and SOB) and I thought the "Aftershock" chapter was cool (that Invertigo picture, though... ), discussing future coasters like the Vekoma Tilt and Aerobatic. Did you know that according to the book, an idea for the Tilt Coaster was to have a design feature where riders could pick which track they wanted to experience on the way up the lift?

Firehawk Leaving Kings Island 10/28/18
MDMC01 replied to IndyGuy4KI's topic in Kings Island Central Newsroom
I heard the news on Twitter and I'm actually more sad than I thought I'd be. Though it's harmful to my lungs, I'll probably take one last (or a few last) flight(s). RIP to a very cool coaster that, like Millennium Force, Wicked Twister, The Legend and Lightning Racer, stood for a time where coaster designers pushed the limits on what was possible and dared to dream big. F indeed. EDIT: Personally, the best case scenario for me is if it got moved to Dorney, as that's where Superman (Possessed) is. It'll be like a mini Geagua Lake as they already have a floorless and a similar front entrance. -
Kings Island Confirms removal of Coaster
MDMC01 replied to IndyGuy4KI's topic in Kings Island Central Newsroom
So, maybe this is thinking too deep here, but if Firehawk is indeed leaving, maybe Chaos was purposely placed in X-Base in order to direct more traffic to that area (and possibly so guests will be more familiar with the area come 2020 (as the giga could go here)). MDMC, proposing just a thought... -
Kings Island Confirms removal of Coaster
MDMC01 replied to IndyGuy4KI's topic in Kings Island Central Newsroom
So, upon further reflection, if that removed coaster does end up being Firehawk, I will still be sad not because of the ride itself (which was cool, no doubt), but the historical significance- as some know, I am a fan of the 90's and early 2000's. Though we still have The Bat, Flight of Fear and Drop Tower (as well as Adventure Express, Skyflier and Invertigo) the removal of Firehawk means that we don't have an "edge of the millennium" thrill ride (ok, we have Flying Ace, but still...). I don't know if that makes sense, but in short, I'll miss what the ride stood for rather more than what it was. To explain more, it's why I like coasters like The Legend, Millenium Force, Lighning Racer and Wicked Twister. It's also why Canada's Wonderland's flats intrigue me. -
I'm not sure of the fire spinner's name, @Gannersdaddy. I attended the final show Friday night and therefore didn't get to meet him. Re: the fire guy, he does some really cool tricks like spinning that fire stick on his body and blowing fire like a Charizard. Like I said in another thread, it felt like a "Greatest Hits" type of show, and that's a good thing!

Since we are now in the Haunt season; are there any maze ideas that were in the planning stages but didn't/haven't made the cut?
-
I put my thoughts in another thread, but I will say I agree with the lack of sceractors in undesignated scare zones. What I mean by this is that there were roaming scareactors in the 4 scarezones and (mostly) only there*. Walking through Planet Snoopy was a bit depressing lol. However, some kid (a guest) made growling noises in an attempt to scare people, which livened it up a bit (and I'm usually one to get annoyed at those kids/teens who try to scare their friends, but props to this future scareactor). I also thought the scareactors would utilize those circus facades in Coney Maul, but that didn't really happen (though I did see a pipe organ in one of them) *I did see a few characters roaming outside scarezones (plague doctor, bird lady, etc.), along with some western people (like a sheriff guy) in Rivertown,

Not sure if this is the correct thread to discuss Haunt, but I just want to say I had a great night tonight! I did almost all the mazes minus Field of Screams because that line is always super long; I even did a few twice. Regarding new things, I really like Chaos; it feels like a combination of Club Blood and Carnevil and really fits well with the theme of X-Base. Second, Madame Fatale's has a special surprise that makes traveling the corridors a bit more harrowing... Third, Blood Drums was indeed new and it felt like a Greatest Hits show, where they played some old stuff, new stuff I hadn't heard before and some stuff from last year. Bryce even let me drum (which felt really weird as they were more "bouncy" than I imagined). Finally, I got to do a solo run of Slaughter House, which was pretty amazing. The greeter at the front called out "Solo Traveller!" into the maze and I was off. Once I saw Sam, he jumped out and said "You got your wish!"; I asked him how he knew and he said he read it somewhere online lol. I also ran into a ton of friends throughout the night, both scareactor and not. Also, while my focus for night was on the mazes, I did manage to get a few rides in (Zephyr, Flight of Fear and Adventure Express). My next scheduled trip is probably gonna be next Saturday if I can.

If this is true, I think I'm more intrigued then sad. Yes, it is a super awesome unique coaster that pushed the limits of what was possible back in the day and I will be a bit sad if it does leave us, but realistically, I can't ride it any more due to the forces of that vertical loop on my lungs. Also, I remember my legs killing me after the double barrel rolls and into the helix. While it is (was?) a fun ride, I can see why it would necessitate removal (as it does have frequent downtime). I'm just glad it graced our presence for a time so that we could all experience what was the pinnacle of thrills for 2001. I hope something truly innovative and unique takes its place. RIP to my first flying coaster. PS: I may have to take one last flight before the end of the season.

Oh, ok... for some reason, I always thought it was underground with the entrance being near where the noodle used to be (across the way from Sweet Spot).

Thanks for sharing! I really like the new "Coney Maul" signage; can't wait to see it in person tomorrow night! Also, just out of curiosity, what was "The Freezer" (the FearFest maze) like and where was it located in relativity to the Effiel Tower? I remember seeing things about it as a kid and wondering where exactly it was as it was advertised as being near the Tower.

12th Season of Halloween Haunt opens 9/21/18
MDMC01 replied to IndyGuy4KI's topic in Kings Island Central Newsroom
I remember Blood Drums before the current show's soundtrack. Such songs included were "Flaco 81" and "Wrecks" along with the current "We are Machines" finale. I believe the version of "We are Machines" that is currently performed is a remix of the original song. Also, re: doing mazes alone, I have done parts of Madme Fatale's alone (I've both went in by myself and then caught up with a random group or went in with a random group and then got separated from said group) and it was pretty interesting (and scary) going it alone. I also remember doing Backwoods Bayou and Killmart mostly alone; Backwoods was really fun and Killmart actually wasn't too bad as it was after midnight and there didn't seem to be a lot of people in the maze. I would really like to do Slaughter House alone as that would be a really cool experience (as it's my favorite maze). If it was still around, Carnevil would have been an interesting solo maze. On the flip side of the coin, it would take a lot for me to do Blackout alone. But in summery, I do think it would be interesting to do a solo run of a maze. -
Just saw the video and I like (most of) what I see! I really like the Skyride and Racer re-do; that Skyride fits perfectly down Coney and is a nod to the original Skyride. While a Ferris Wheel could work, it wouldn't be able to go in that spot for obvious reasons (which I know is in the video description ) and I think I'd rather see one in Oktoberfest (unless it's like Giant Wheel, then put it in Coney Mall!). The Gliders look cool, but I think they may fit better in either X-Base or Action Zone and in its place could be a Tilt-a-Whirl, perhaps. Finally, would Monster be getting a new actual ride (like, another Monster to replace ours) or just a new paint job? It's hard to tell as the ride that as put doesn't seem to match up exactly (I know that not every ride type may not be available in No Limits 2). However, if it were to get a new paint job, I would love to see orange and black with green accents, similar to Scarecrow Scrambler at Holiday World. TLDR: Great concept, but I would personally do some things differently.

I believe this is the company, is it not? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sudden_Impact!_Entertainment_Company Some of the attraction titles sound like some of the mazes at FearFest back in the day.

Can that image be part of KIC's official 404 page?

Sounds pretty cool/interesting... how far is this from Canada's Wonderland? And just to confirm, that IMAX theatre is still open; correct? -
True, but Freak Street doesn't appear on the map for some reason... guess we'll find out if Freak Street is still around in 5 more days... Another thought is that maybe that area/idea has been combined with Coney Maul and that's why its not on the map.

Though I think it'll be the traditional B&M Giga, a Giga Dive coaster would be sick! Can you imagine being perched at the top of a 340 ft. drop? Gulp. As cool as that would be, I'd don't know that we'd be the ones to get that. But what if KI hinted at that before the announcement (much like The Bat wing coaster idea on the site before Banshee's reveal)? Then the official annonuncement, it would be like...

No more Freak Street... Wonder why that pathway near Boo Blasters is still open, then...

I know, I'm so excited!

Warped Tour also made a stop at Darien Lake. Though I do agree with the idea of a big show at Timberwolf (when its not being used for comcerts)- why not have a bird show like Kentucky Kingdom or the Cincinnati Zoo does? EDIT: OR, they could move the dog show to Timberwolf and expand it to feature other animals, if they so choose.
-
As long as it's not like Cedar Downs, we're good! That is the one ride at Cedar Point I'll never ride again (unless they possibly get rid of the creepy announcer audio) Re: The kiddie looping coaster... in all seriousness, I think a family coaster with a barrell roll (or a less imposing inversion) could be a unique stepping stone for kids. Even something like a smaller version of Scorpion (at Busch Gardens in Tampa) could work... EDIT: Something like Darien Lake's Moose on the Loose could also work in Planet Snoopy, but I'm not sure where it would go as there is a back area between Petting Farm/Flying Ace and Flume.
