Decoding Episode II: Rivertown 2017 and the Falling Trees
Magenta Lizard replied to jcgoble3's topic in Kings Island
They've done a lot more clearing out at the back of the train house, just before the unused station. I didn't get pics yet but hopefully later today. It's not surprising because there have been orange marking stakes and painted trees in that area from nearly the beginning of the season. They're currently hard at work (and I hope staying hydrated!) -
Who will manufacture it? Gravity Group What will the layout be like? Several interactions with WWC Anything special about it? Water features. Ability to shoot water at the coaster from the ground/canyon or vice versa. Any records?** none What will the name or theme be? Lumberjack, Timberjack, or Moonshine

It's nice of Santa to take time away from his vacation to hear kids' Christmas wishes. Santa Snoopy is here too

I was just going to post that they are playing instrumental Christmas music on International Street.

The KI Five are getting into the spirit

Doesn't show up very well but it is snowing now. Inexplicably, even though they had custom t-shirts made for their employees for this week-long event, there is no Christmas in July merchandise available to buy. I asked in the Emporium, and she called in to make sure. I don't get it.

Some pics Most of the decorations are limited to International Street, but some of the associates have cool t-shirts and the gate staff were wearing fun hats.

I'm really hoping for a return of Skeleton Crew this year. I know a lot of people disliked it because of the stinker act in the middle (stacking the tower) but the fire juggler and the rope act were wonderful, and the rest of it was entertaining. I enjoyed it much more than the musical show last year.

If it's anything like their "ticketing" of people parked in what I call the "special snowflake" spots*, it's not that big of a deal. It's just a warning that their license plate number has been recorded and if they park there again they may be towed (I took a pic of one on someone's windshield once because I was curious). I've very rarely seen them even bothering to warn, and never seen any towing. *the spots on the end of rows meant to allow for visibility when joining the main "road" through the lot, but usually occupied by special snowflakes to whom the rules don't apply. "You mean the lines painted across the spot and the trash cans partially blocking them mean I'm not supposed to park there? I had no idea." I usually get to the park at parking lot opening (sometimes a little earlier) so I can park on one of the closest end spots, so I get to see a lot of the activity that goes on with the special snowflake spots next to me.

I'm here. It's busy. Banshee was still only a five minute wait but I haven't tried to ride anything else yet. I've been here since 2, but I'm mostly all about cirque until 7:30. It's also crazy hot

Decoding Episode II: Rivertown 2017 and the Falling Trees

I've been following this thread from the beginning. I knew about the old Rivertown Funnel Cakes building being razed quite some time before the park even opened. I've been to the park over 30 times (open until close) so far this season and looked for clues and watched the developing destruction and finally construction with interest. I've seen the plans but don't know what to make of them. Less than a week from the announcement, I still wouldn't be surprised by just about anything they might say. I still really don't know what this is going to be! I thought by this time we'd have it all figured out, but honestly my speculation is still only limited mostly by the educated guesses I assumed from the beginning of the season (probably not a Giga in that location, CF isn't likely to work with Intamin, that kind of thing). -

If it is for blueprints, what is the spindly structure attached to it used for? Edit: the tall bit Edit again: it was sitting in the middle of the clearing behind the train station. It could be seen best from about the second car of the train when sitting in the station. It could also be seen from the front from the WWC queue, which IIRC was the angle Greg's tweeted pic was from. -
Yes, Kings Island. I assumed at the time I would see it again so I just got a quick (crappy) pic on the way by, but I haven't seen them the two times I've been to the park since that day.

It must have gotten lost in a flood of nonsense. A metal table Greg Scheid tweeted a pic of, that turned out to have a tall rail attached to it. If you go back through the thread you'll eventually see the discussion. -
That reminds me of something I saw one day at the park. I had my husband with me, so I wasn't interested in doing research about it at the time, then forgot about it. But, this sign was in one of the queues: I'm guessing KI is trying to figure out a way to crowdsource their wait times for the KI app rather than have employees call it in like they have been.

Yeah, when I was there yesterday the table thing was missing (or moved elsewhere) but I forgot to mention it. I'm a little disappointed I never got to see it in use because I'm still curious what it was for. -
I bought a lipstick charger recently for $10, and it has been really handy. I used to typically leave my phone in the vehicle to charge for an hour or so partway through the day if I was going to be at the park open until close. Now I just plug it to the portable charger every so often. It can charge my phone a full charge a couple times (more than I need). Best $10 I've spent in a long time.

Glad you asked about the "unused station" if you were confused by it, because you probably weren't the only one. I had to pick some sort of shorthand to refer to different areas because I couldn't be writing out a long description of the area every time. It's easy to forget everyone isn't as familiar with the details of the train route as I've become That pic I posted yesterday of the new gravel road with the equipment on it, the gravel starts there in the station, as you can see in the wrapped lumber pic. I'll admit that I didn't ever pay much attention to what it looked like before, but as I remember it, there was just grass before behind that fence. I'll have to look way back to see if I have any pics. And btw, good catch on the footing in one of my pics, was it Goble? I didn't notice it at the time or in the pic when I posted it, but it is indeed another of those old ones like Don had us tracking down during the Coasterstock scavenger hunt. -

Sorry, gotta roll my eyes about "very little going on in here". A /lot/ has been going on and being ignored to discuss random crap instead, from my point of view. Confirmed its a retaining wall, and lumber most likely for the coaster has arrived. There's plenty going on /here/, at the park, and I'm doing my best to share it with everyone. -

That's an awful lot of Pyro-Guard Exterior Fire-X by Hoover Whatever that is. (The unused station seems to have found new use) -
I hadn't noticed something missing there at the exit until I looked at my pics, and didn't know what it had been till someone mentioned it. But since it was light out this time I looked, I saw the button is actually laying on its side down in the plants I also saw some more of the decorative pieces are lined up behind the control booth And there are buckets underneath, but I have no idea why

Another new gravel road (with heavy equipment and metal tube), between the access road that was already there and the left side of the train tracks, soon after the unused station. -

There are more paths developing off of the gravel one started in the clearing by the new WWC entrance The sort of wandering nature of these (and the markers set up for presumably more paths) are what was making me think 'tiques again. Guess we'll know in a week.
