KIAlumnus Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 Has anyone noticed that the Festhaus clock is not working? Its hard to believe all the hype of the nostalgia the past two years and they do not have the clock working and the guys cheering. Anyone have an idea on what's going on? Is it being fixed or are they being like Paramount and saying "we'll get to it eventually?" Quote
AgentSoB Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 Yeah I noticed this the past trip. The doors are broken and open. You can see the figures in the door. Hopefully this is fixed because it was a nice piece that added charm to the area. Quote
markr Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 Used to love the hourly rendition of the chicken dance. Quote
teenageninja Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 Take a look at it, it looks pathetic, the doors for the people are hanging off the hinges and everything, looks like absolute garbage. Quote
violakat03 Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 My husband asked me when we were there on Friday if it had ever moved. Anyone know when the last time it worked was? He went with me to the park in 2004 but we didn't really spend any time in Oktoberfest so he doesn't remember them, whether they were working or not. But hey, at least he got to ride Son of Beast with the loop while he was there! Quote
BavarianBeatle Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 The last time I remember it working was 2007. Quote
MarketingExpress Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 Used to love the hourly rendition of the chicken dance. It may have been hourly at one point... but it used to go off every 15 minutes. Made for some long days working at the Viking Fury. Quote
Coney Islander Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 Actually, thats the only reason I started eating at Festhaus in the first place. Hope its fixed. Quote
Thrill_Biscuit Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 It's sad to see it in its present condition. Like the Grand Carousel's band organ, it's another sound of Kings Island that is, at least for now, silent. The last time I saw it working was in 2007 as well. Quote
BoddaH1994 Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 Is it possible that it hasn't been repaired because they think the music from the Glockenspiel may interfere with the life shows inside? Quote
rotag Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 Is it possible that it hasn't been repaired because they think the music from the Glockenspiel may interfere with the life shows inside? i want my chicken dance as anoying that it already is Quote
XGatorHead 8904 Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 Is it possible that it hasn't been repaired because they think the music from the Glockenspiel may interfere with the life shows inside? I don't see why. It worked when they had shows in there years ago. I thought it was working last year, but I could be mistaken. It could have been 2007. Quote
kidiamondback09 Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 The Festhaus clock was working every 15 minutes until the end of the 2007 season at which point the VP's of the park decided that they wanted the attraction turned off due to lack of interest from the public and a way to save money on repair costs. It sat dormant through the entire 2008 season, and the control system was then pulled out before the beginning of the 2009 season. As it currently sits, it has been a forgotten feature of almost everyone from the park's staff. It is truly unfortunate that they want to remove any charm/theming from the park... Quote
Thrill_Biscuit Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 Like that 314' tall 'Paris' theming and all those useless fountains. Juuusssst kidding! Quote

If all of this is true I don't see this being renovated anytime soon. They have bigger fish to fry I guess! Quote
The Interpreter Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 ....like maintaining the theming on Adventure Express, Backlot Stunt Coaster, The Crypt, etc.... Quote
westcoaster Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 were in Cedar Fair years,,, no theming, strictly business, and great land scaping but no theming its truly sad,, for that,,,,, Oh you should see the video of monster plantation at six flags georgia that is theming, we surely should have some of....oh well at least Cedar Fair adds rides,,, maybe Cedar Point fans will wake up one day why there boat ride leaves, (i'm sure they have to keep the theming up). they've lost all there dark rides, etc. Quote
StalkerChick Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 The Festhaus has a Glockenspiel?!?! LOL but i'm kinda being serious.... the more i think about it... maybe... MAYBE.... when i was a wee little one i might remember it... lol Quote
Oldiesmann Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 I seriously hope the park puts the clock back in working order. It's not so much about themeing as it is the area's rich German heritage. Last time I saw it working, there was no "lack of interest" from the general public. Quote
coastermike Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 I'm glad I have the Festhaus Glockenspiel mp3 so I can at least listen to it. What a shame if they don't restore it. Mike B. Quote
Avatar Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 I miss the clock working too and Miss Rae always wanted us to go by there and watch them at least once every visit. I captured this short video below back in 2007 and I am glad I did. Enjoy!! Little details really help atmosphere at parks and helps set the mood for visiting guests. Quote
BavarianBeatle Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 I remember my kids telling each other to dance.... Quote
Oldiesmann Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 That video illustrates my point that there was no "lack of interest" from park guests. It was a big hit. Restoring that clock, kicking the country show out of Festhaus and replacing the food places with a German eatery would go a long way into restoring interest in that section of the park. Quote
HTCO Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 The characters are nice... sure. The song? I swear if I hear that song one more time, I'm going to go nuts. Quote
MrTools Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 like maintaining the theming on Adventure Express The theaming isnt and hasnt realy been maintained at all Quote
The Interpreter Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 Well, actually at the Point, some of the theming is a disaster, too.. Terpy, making a quick exit to....Alaska! Quote
coaster_junky Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 last year when i rode disaster transport (around early august) all the themeing was working, and i must say it was really neat, much better than just riding it in the dark Quote
