israel09 Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 Does the resratint on Diamondback scare the crap out of anyone except me.lol. when sitting in the front seat .it's just worrying that there is no belt to hold the lapbar place if the main system should fail. though Im sure there are redundant systems probably. But i guess that adds to thrill factor as you come down the hill and leaning directly into the bar.haha. awesome ride though. Quote
flightoffear1996 Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 I love it and it don't worry me one bit. It does lock twice. Quote
Beast1979 Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 It's incredibly safe. The odds of it failing are less then a billion in one. Quote
DiamondbackLover Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 I love the restraints. So comfy, aaaaahhhh. I'm dreaming of sleeping in it right now. Adventure Express', on the other hand... Quote
ZukoGirl Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 I don't think anything could go wrong, but nothing is certain. With all the people checking every morning if something could go wrong, they would catch it before the park opens. Hopefully.. Quote

KI would definitely NOT open their most popular ride (right now) if there was a decent chance of something going wrong... Quote
PKIVortex Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 Beleive it or not, seat belts on roller coasters is something that just popped up in the last 10 to 15 years. None of KI's coaster use to have seat belts. Face/Off was the first coaster to have a seat belt at KI. I remember riding The Beast, Racer, Vortex, Flight Deck etc... without seat belts, I was never worried. Quote
Beast1979 Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 Aren't seat belts usually put in for insurance companies? I don't think it's always manufacturers recomendation, for example Flight Deck has seat belts and Iron Dragon doesn't.... Quote
israel09 Posted August 2, 2009 Author Posted August 2, 2009 yeah, Diamondback's restraints are very comfy! just spooky, lol i was on it yesterday for the frist time. awesomeness, so much room to move and yeah, the belts may not be mandatory. I remember Vortex didn't always have them or the Corkscrew at Cedar Point I just enjoy the added sense of security , although i know how rare it is for something to fail Quote
IndyGuy4KI Posted August 2, 2009 Posted August 2, 2009 Tig'rr at Indiana Beach did not have any type of restraint system at all until I think 2 seasons ago. They installed seat belts, but before that you sit down in the bob sled type car and went nothing came down at all. I always did not feel safe as a kid in that ride for I would ride with my dad and if he did not hold me down I felt like I was leaving the car. (I may have gotten 2" of air lift, but still.) Quote
Browns4life Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 Seat belts are over used IMO... Add them to new rides, but why put them in on rides that have been operating for years without them? Diamondback kinda scares me though, those Bm Hypers are the only newer Bm's that dont have seat belts... Quote
KI FANATIC 37 Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 I love the restraints! I think they are comfy and safe! Quote

The lack of a visible safety backup on the restraint system scared the daylights out of me the first few times I rode it, so I know exactly what you mean. The thought does still cross my mind occasionally when experiencing the negative G's, but I've generally gotten accustomed to not having visible safety backups on it after riding it more. However if they were to add a belt to each lap bar, I wouldn't object Quote
HandsUp Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 The seemingly minimal restraints-along with the fact that your feat are dangling-are the aspects that make DB an amazing ride. On the 1st drop, I love arching my back as we coast over the crest so that my feat are pointed directly down towards the ground. Sure it's freaky, but that is the point. Once you sell yourself on the fact that you will not fall out, you can really enjoy what DB has to offer. Quote
jondrewfoo Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 i would strongly object to lap belts. im pretty sure that would put a serious damper on the capacity of the ride. you always have people forgetting to put the seatbelt on, and it just takes a bit longer to check rides with seatbelts. Quote
mtl2013 Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 I love the DB restraints! the fact that its only a lap bar adds to the ride, making it amazing. Plus, the odds of it failing or something else with it going wrong, are like a billion to one. hahaha. just kinda made that up. but, im sure its near that. Quote
Tomkatt7 Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 Ask Mr. Helbig how hard it is to get out the locked restraints! How long was he stuck when he just wanted to try out the seat when the trains got there during construction? Quote
Jasper Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 Diamondback's restraints are an example of B&M at their finest. They are comfy, roomy, and very very safe. Talking about not feeling safe, go ride Millennium Force and Top Thrill Dragster and tell me how safe you feel. Quote
Austin Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 The only thing I fear on a B&M hyper is getting hit in the face with a bird. I got hit by a bird while riding Diamondback! I swear! I was riding and I was leaning forward, and a bird hit my arms and then my chin. I thought someone in front of me had a camera, but then the people behind me said it was a bird! It didn't hurt much though. It was at the bottom of the 3rd hill. Quote
RailRider Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 The only other restrainsts that I find as minimalst and thrilling as those on B&M hypers are what S&S has used on their Screaming Swings and rides like Powder Keg. Very minimalst, yet secure. Quote

dakota2112 Posted August 3, 2009 Posted August 3, 2009 Ask Mr. Helbig how hard it is to get out the locked restraints! How long was he stuck when he just wanted to try out the seat when the trains got there during construction? It isn't the locked restraint that I'm worried about falling out of. What I worry about is falling out of the seat when that locked lapbar fails and becomes unlocked mid-ride! That's when you'll wish you did have a safety belt securing the lapbar to the seat. This is a hypothetical situation of course. Not having that lapbar safety belt is a psychological barrier that some people are more susceptible to than others, myself included. It's a primal instinct, a subconscious fear for one's life. I know that lapbar is locked in place, but some fundamental reflex in my brain still would like to see something locking the lapbar down. As the saying goes... seeing is believing. I can't explain it other than that. But statistically, I'm confident the lapbar is safely locked in place. And as someone else pointed out, a safety belt attachment would surely eat into ride capacity. Quote
