BoddaH1994
I have just received official word from the park that Son of Beast will NOT in fact operate in 2010. The park will, however, still be entertaining the possibility of operating it in the future. Now that we have this out of our season, let's look forward to the 2010 season and what it will offer. It's only about a month away!!!
Dbfan
Dislike Less than a month until Opening Day!!
BoddaH1994
You can love or hate the decision, but at least it's not "no decision has been made at this time."
The Interpreter
I had delayed posting this until it was officially confirmed: http://www.oxfordpress.com/news/oxford-news/son-of-beast-wont-open-this-season-607408.html
CincyMan98
Does this just mean "no operation" or "tear down". I mean, I know the title says no operation, but will they just open it again in 2011?
The Interpreter
Read the article I just posted. It confirms the park has not considered tearing it down at this time. ...Scheid said the park hasn't talked about tearing down the ride."It's more of a how do we make it right," he said. http://www.oxfordpre...son-607408.html
Beast1979
I smell a renovation. New for 2011?
IndyGuy4KI
I hope then can find a permanent fix for SOB during this next season.
BoddaH1994
I'm sure that tearing it down COULD happen, but as the article implies, it's not the plan right now. Hopefully we'll se a newly reborn Son of Beast in 2011, but only time will tell.
The Interpreter
I have said it many times, I will say it again. The park won't say this. The park can't say this. The park may even deny this. MUCH depends on what is now 040810. For 2011 and beyond, in particular... That's reality.

Dvo
I was right! Not trying to gloat, I promise. Just pointing out that I agree with the park's decision, and even last summer this was the logical choice in my mind.
CincyMan98
I'd rather want a new attraction more than a new SOB in 2011.
Fear the Four
I'd rather want a new attraction more than a new SOB in 2011. Honestly to me I think a "new" Son of Beast is more interesting but it depends what the new attraction is.
TheSonofBeast
I'd rather want a new attraction more than a new SOB in 2011. I HIGHLY doubt that any major new attraction is in the cards for any of the parks next year at least under current ownership (which is pretty much certainly going to be completely different in the near future...) That being said, I think Son of Beast could still make a triumphant return sometime late this season, after the dust is settled with who owns the park. They already would have two engineering firms looking into possibilities, and its possible the new owners could just say hey lets do this. I hope (but highly doubt) that Son of Beast makes a return July 4th like 2007! that would be awesome! Point is, i dont think Son of Beast would ahve interfered with ANYTHING coming into the park whatever year it would open...
The Interpreter
Parks have budgets. Money must be budgeted to be spent. And the amount needed must be known in order to decide whether or not to budget for it....
CedarPointer
I don't smell a renovation. What I smell is a park trying to quietly decide a ride's fate without too much backlash. It'll go from "we haven't decided" to "it won't open in 2010" to "it won't operate for a few years" to "anyone want to buy a piece of it?". I wonder why it's still on the website...

Honestly to me I think a "new" Son of Beast is more interesting but it depends what the new attraction is. We should not jump to anything, for right now it seems they are wanting to get the ride right, not a tear down and replace. At least that is what I am reading today. Fear the Four
Â I wonder why it's still on the website... I know why. No final decision has been made.
The Interpreter
It's the park's website...and you are wondering why it is not up to date? Let's face it, the announcement for this season was officially made tonight. The website will be updated. But in an hour or so? Probably not. CedarPointer
Â I wonder why it's still on the website... I know why. No final decision has been made. So they shouldn't put "Son of Beast will not operate for 2010" on the website? I'm glad I'm not at guest relations!

markr
Just wondering how many more posts there will be on this topic.
CincyMan98
Who exactly runs the website anyways - whoever it is, he's not too good at updating stuff! But they probably should say they're closing SOB, because some people might be excited to ride it on opening day, and then become disappointed. Coney Islander
^^ I don't know... The Son of Beast construction thread lasted 8 months and got 2476 posts. Assuming this thread lasts until next spring, we will get 3,301 posts. I've got to remember to check back and see how close my estimation was. Outdoor Man
the coaster could be DRAMATICALLY improved if the "bowls" were removed in favor of making it a true "terrain" coaster. I think it can be salvaged into a much better experience. The roughest parts of the ride were when the track curved anyway.
Vortex
This is Drachen Fire all over again.

It looks like a true terrain coaster to me! Other then that the ride experience would be much better without the rose bowl. No aching pains!
