Snoopy Rocks! on Ice! Review

Since many of you were taking the voyage of the millennium this past weekend, I know many couldn't be at Kings Island and didn't see the new ice show, "Snoopy Rocks! on Ice!"

Here's a photo breakdown of the show. Now, one thing I must admit that I'm not really familiar with Peanuts cartoons. I never really watched them or any cartoon in my younger years, so it may force a different perspective.

One thing that I noticed was that the show had Snoopy's namesake, but really featured a lot of stage time for all of the characters, especially Charlie Brown.

From what I understand, Charlie Brown has a life-long string of bad luck, and this is no exception. Like the time when he was playing baseball...

He yelled, "I've got it! I've got it!"

...then it hit the ground in front of him, much to the disappointment of his teammates.

And of course, Charlie Brown's swift antics are not match for the Kite Eating Tree.

What could possibly get worse than having your kite stuck in a tree? Wait... did I just hear thunder???

Coming in from over heard, it's a bird! It's a plane! It's Red Barron!!!

You know what the best part is? Everyone falls in love...

Oh yeah, and now they take MUCH better care of the ice.

The show is certainly unique. It's hard to compare it to Endless Summer on Ice, since they're two shows with the words "on Ice" as their only similarity. I'm willing to go as far as saying that ESOI was more of an ice skating show and this is more like a variety show.

The show is listed at 30 minutes, but both times I saw it, it ran about 35. It has a lot of set changes, many more than Endless Summer. They do, however, have little to no downtime between changes. Endless Summer was a little more elaborate in areas, such as the old 4th of July scene, but I think this was a little neater as a result of the sum of its parts.

I saw the first two shows on Saturday, both of which had less than 50 sporatic empty seats available. People seemed to really enjoy it, especially this kids. Many times, they would clap along with the soundtrack and cheer when they saw stunts they enjoyed. A 3 or 4 year old girl a few rows behind me would yell, "Hi Snoopy!" every time the world's most famous beagle took the stage. It was really cute.

I think "Snoopy Rocks! on Ice" is a good replacement for "Endless Summer," which overstayed its welcome last season. Definitely one worth checking out.

Tomorrow I'm going to KI with some of my friends. I told them, "Hey, do you guys want to come watch Snoopy Rocks! On Ice with me?"

They both said no.

What's wrong with people and shows? You don't HAVE to go to KI to ride rides. That's why I always love to watch some of the good shows there. :)

I think the one thing that ESOI had/has over SROI is that ESOI had a concept behind it- school's out, you get a summer job, watch sports (racing), go to a concert, go camping, then school starts again. SROI seems like they tried their hardest to allude to Peanuts, while the target audience probably won't get many of the references. Also, SROI seems more geared toward children, especially in regards to the music selection. I'm kind of disappointed, but it's still a pretty good show.

I look forward to seeing this, and hope it is more than just a menagerie of songs, one strung after the other, in typical Cedar Fair show fashion....

No, this is really unique. It has dialogue between scenes and stuff. I think you'll like it.

Dialogue? In a Cedar Fair show? Be still my heart.

The best show I have ever seen in a Cedar Fair park remains Marty's Party. I miss that thing. I actually adored it...

Marty's Part was fantastic. I'm really disappointed that they didn't bring it back, but I guess they couldn't resist putting a Peanuts show in when they were doing the Peanuts expansion, although I think some parks still have it.

If you're familiar with Peanuts, I think you'll especially appreciate the show.

Well, I`m sure it is a great show.

(I had to listen to two of Coney`s shows today while at the Ferris Wheel, and Coney`s "MP3 Shuffle" had many songs that I had never heard of/listen to. A lot of Lady Gaga, and Miley Cyrus songs. On the flip side, the "Motown Review" show had a decent song selection to it. Although, the singers were still in "live rehearsal mode" so things were not functioning at their optimum. I`m sure in a couple of weeks, I`ll be sick of all the songs already.

Yep. The sad thing is, just working doubles on weekends, I will still hear the shows about two or three times a day! And its not like you can avoid hearing the shows while working the Ferris Wheel. As anyone who has visited Coney and ridden the Ferris Wheel while a show is going on can attest to, the shows are rather loud. Unfortunately, I`ve had guests over the years ask me at wheel if the shows were Coney`s Karaoke show. And I`m not joking about that either.

I saw the 5:00 show today and thoroughly enjoyed it. I've been looking forward to this one as ESOI was my favorite show last summer (though I never saw Marty's Party).

I've seen several of the Peanuts specials, the Snoopy Come Home movie and have read the strip for years, so I recognized all of the themes they touched on. The skaters were quite talented (like usual), and I thought they did a great job with the music selection. This year the music covers several decades, unlike last year's show which mostly stuck to 70s music.

And of course they keep finding new ways to get guests to shell out nickels - now they have vendors selling cotton candy and flash toys/necklaces before the show.

By the way, is something *supposed* to happen during that awkward darkness when they play Greased Lightning? It seemed like something should have happened, but didn't.

My daughter's been wanting to go to Disney on Ice. Until that rolls through town again, this looks like a nice substitute! Can't wait!

I believe that Kings Island has been selling cotton candy and pocorn before shows in the Kings Island Theater for several years now, so that is not a new phenomenon. Now if they would only offer a general discount off of ALL food and merchandise in the park (say 10% or something), it may entice more pass holders to purchase food (and also may encourage more people to buy passes). (Coney I believe offers 10% off food and merchandise for regular pass holders and 20% off for Platinum Pass holders).

I`ll have to get out to KI sometime to see the new ice show. Been busy with my new job, and working weekends at Coney. Not much time to get up to KI except in the evenings.

On the topic of Broadway type shows, back when they had ice skating in the Festhaus in the early to mid 90`s one of the shows was in fact "Broadway on Ice."

Yes they did. they were selling snacks so to speak since 95 or 96. The ice show in Festhaus was early 90's. Cheers was 95. Not sure about 96. I do know in 97 it was used for storage, that is where we stored scarecrows that we made for the park. I remember going to Goodwill to buy tons of jeans and flannel shirts.

I think about this show sometimes, and how much it (with due respect to those who liked it) wasn't my thing. It makes me all the more appreciative for Ouimet, Cirque Imagine, Origins, Jump!, and even Ed Alonso. I really appreciate the direction that Live E has taken in the last 4 or 5 years.
