December 28, 201015 yr Several people here seem to be well connected to Kings Island. Please help me understand, or even better help me fix this problem. I have been going to KI's site trying to see current images of our beloved park, or WindSeeker/Coney Mall construction on the webcams for weeks now and just get this message: "We are in the process of updating and adding additional webcams. Thank you for your patience." My patience is running out! How long does it take to "update" or "add" basic all weather survellance cameras? Why is it everytime I go to CP's site there are 3 webcams working fine, but we KI'ers can't even see 1? Is it too much to ask for someone to go up to the Eiffel Tower, pan the Diamondback cam to the left and turn it on? If someone knows who might be in charge of this, send me a private message with their contact info and I'll offer to do it. Thanks.
December 28, 201015 yr well, it apparently takes a while, they've been working on the international street web-cam since this time last year.
December 28, 201015 yr It would ne nice to have a cam on the construction site, especially once they start erecting steel. If I was you I would give the park a call! I am pretty sure their contact info is still on the site. Let us know what they say.
December 28, 201015 yr It may not be a technical problem; the manager may just not approve of the viewing experience.
December 28, 201015 yr It may not be a technical problem; the manager may just not approve of the viewing experience. Not sure that is it, but I am wondering if they feel it would not get much viewership to be worth their time? I think it would get quite a bit of attention.
December 28, 201015 yr Plain and simple, webcams really aren't that high of a priority. I agree with that. At the same time though, if having that webcam running will get people excited about the ride and bring in another, lets say 1000 more guests to the park next season is it worth the investment to get it running?

You're absolutely right. Talk about a cheap way to promote the ride. Also, I'm sure most KICentralers would check the view out regularly. I know I would.
December 28, 201015 yr Not to mention, they already had the webcams up, it's not like they have to install new ones (unless something happened to the old ones). I would think it would be pretty simple to get them back up and running.
December 28, 201015 yr Who knows, they might be adding some high quality webcams that actually have streaming video! (20% likely.)
December 28, 201015 yr Well look at it this way, it's cold out, there's snow on the ground would you want to be out installing webcams? There may be several already up, however they may need to be fixed, they may need to be cleaned (let's face it outside they get dirty), they may need focused, they may not have someone available to write the code to actually put them on the site at this time, etc. There could be several reasons why they are not up. Like Indyguy4KI said, call the park to get more information....they have more information that some of us here do. The park may not give you information, the park is very tight lipped about some projects so don't get mad if they don't share, because they may not know at this point still or they may still be working out details.
December 28, 201015 yr If we got a lot of people to call the park, maybe they would think they need the webcams?

Apparently, it's enough to shut down other, even much larger, things in the park.

December 29, 201015 yr LOLZ WE SHLD CALLZ THE PRK 4 CAMz 2 B PUTZ UP SO0N! No seriously. Calling them all at once is probably a really bad idea. They do in fact read these boards on occasions. They will get it running whenever they get around to it. I'm sure it's not on their top priority right now.
December 29, 201015 yr i bet they are going to put them up some time on new years or shortly after ( 1-2 weeks at max i hope)
December 29, 201015 yr Let's be realistic. Webcams, especially at this time of year, are very low priority. I would venture that a vast majority of the park going public is not thinking about KI this time of year, as they are not obsessed like most of us here. So no, I don't see the webcams going up "some time on new years or shortly after", possibly not even in March. Yes, I'd like to have them so I can peek in, but it's not gonna happen. Having worked in the park in the offseason, I can tell you that December is typically a slow period in terms of activity, except for construction that may be going on, and winter maintenance on the rides. Things do pick up in the next couple of months, and come spring they may have time to get around to the webcams. Like it or not, webcams are not essential to the operation of the park, and there are much more important things to focus on first. Just be patient.

I don't know.

I actually have paused my DVR when the morning traffic reports show the 71/Mason traffic cam where you can barely see KI in the distance. I know it's kinda sad, but it keeps me out of the pool halls.

I think most of the people that would check the webcam would be people already planning to come to KI next year. I'm sure several of us on here (myself included) would check it often but it doesn't seem to me that having it up in January would do them much good as far as attracting casual clients.

But just maybe a very small fraction of your "most of the people" will come sooner in the season because of having the webcam. They will possibly have such a great time that they make plans to make second trip instead of just 1 trip! This would also be why KI is on FB, Twitter, and have a Blog. The webcam is just one more tool to attract more customers.
January 3, 201115 yr Author ^ AND be a very simple way to placate their most loyal and vocal fans. When I last looked at the forums page, there were nearly 900 views on this topic. I would say more than just a few people casual or not would want to see what's going on in our park
February 1, 201115 yr For all of those without twitter, the park tweeted today that a WindSeeker cam is up! http://www.visitkingsisland.com/public/fun/webcams/index.cfm
